Isaiah’s Covenant With Death is NOT a Peace Treaty

NOT

NEW END TIMES TOPICS #1
Isaiah’s ‘covenant with death’ is NOT a peace treaty
August 2020

“Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it. “
–Isaiah 28:15,18

In Isaiah 28, a reference is TWICE made to a “covenant with death.”

Modern deceitful teachers–spinning a convoluted story of what happens in the end times–have twisted this fairly obvious phrase to mean “a peace treaty.

It is NOT.

IN FACT, just this past week, another false teacher sent an email which in which the following was included.

Pastor XXX and XXXX discuss the coming OVERFLOWING SCOURGE of Isaiah 28:15-18 that overtakes the planet and motivates Israel to sign the SEVEN-YEAR TRIBULATION COVENANT. Discover why your unsaved love ones are at HIGH RISK of being swept away by the OVERFLOWING SCOURGE!

This passage reflects the “peace treaty” campaign of deceptive Bible teachers everywhere in the end times.

In the false teachers’ telling: Israel is the good guy, the antichrist is the villain and a ‘covenant with death’ becomes a peace treaty between the good guys and the villain.

This is a fairly NEW deception which was unheard of for centuries.

–We have made a covenant with death, &c. To be in covenant with, is a kind of proverbial expression to denote perfect security from evil and mischief of any sort.
British Family Bible notes

Covenant with death–with hell–at agreement; the covenant is, that death and hell shall not injure them. This they say not in word, but in spirit and action. They are confident that their lying devices will save them.

In nothing does the desperate wickedness of men more clearly manifest itself than in the delusions which they practise upon themselves in respect to escaping the punishment of their sins. Every transgressor has some “refuge of lies” in which he hopes to be saved, though he neglects the only way of salvation which God has provided for him
Family Bible Notes

Disannulled; made void, or of none effect; it shall stand you in no stead.

Ye shall be trodden down by it; which you flattered yourselves that it should not come unto you, Isa 28:15.
Matthew Poole’s Commentary on the Holy Bible

The reader should make no mistake: earlier Bible teachers were deceptive, but they had to be much more careful, as the populace had much more knowledge of God’s Word.  It was only in the biblically-ignorant latter days that such an egregious teaching as “the covenant with death is a peace treaty’ was formulated and became popular.

A covenant is an AGREEMENT–in the Bible, covenant is frequently used to describe the agreement between God and believers (first, the children of Israel [the First or Old Covenant] and later, with all men [the Second or New Covenant or the NEW AGREEMENT between God and all of mankind through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ (the New Covenant]).

Many times God promised to make a new covenant with His people.

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:  But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
–Jeremiah 31:31-33

“For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.”
–Hebrews 8:7

NOWHERE in the Bible is a peace treaty referred to as a “covenant.”

In addition, God’s Word makes NO mention of a “seven-year covenant.”

The Seven Year Covenant is Not a Peace Treaty!

Isaiah 18’s reference to a ‘covenant with death’ describes something over which many among the children of Israel stumbled: both in Isaiah’s day and during the end times–NOT a peace treaty.

“For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire”
–Isaiah 66:15

“And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there. Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not. And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name”
–Isaiah 65:9,12,15

“And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.”
–Zephaniah 13:8-9

A covenant is NOT a peace treaty: in the Bible it is used as a word signifying a SPIRITUAL AGREEMENT between God and man.

Do not let the reader be deceived by smooth-talking false teachers.

[NOTE: This is not to say that, at some point, a peace treaty might be signed between the man of sin’s worldwide government and the man-created state called Israel.  In fact, because of the relentless promotion over the past hundred years or so by false teacher, this is likely to happen.  BUT this will be a deception, NOT something from the Word of God.]

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

The Mind of God: A Few Observations

mind

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:16

Not much has been written concerning the phrase “the mind of Christ.”

At least not much has been written by believers.

The phrase, “the mind of Christ” only appears once in the Bible in 1CORINTHIANS.  The thought behind that verse comes mainly from the Old Testament, with passages from Isaiah and Jeremiah chief among them.

HOWEVER, none of the OT verses refer to a man having the “mind of the LORD.”

“Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? “
–Isaiah 40:13

“For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it?”
–Jeremiah 23:18

So, here are a few observations from some fairly recent conversations (mostly attempted) about believers having the mind of Christ.

1- Having the mind of Christ does NOT mean that the believer knows everything that God or His Son, Jesus Christ, knows.

More than one person wanted the answer to the same general question: IF one has the ‘mind of Christ,’ why doesn’t one know everything?

Having the mind of Christ means the believer now understands the purpose, goals and aims of God. It does NOT mean that the believer now understands EVERYTHING. Because of God’s Holy Spirit–who takes up residence in the body of each believer–those with the ‘mind of Christ’ now UNDERSTAND the Word of God (where previously, they relied on the world to provide answers).

God’s Holy Spirit will lead the believer into ALL truth–and the only source of truth in today’s world is God’s Word. Therefore, the believer understands so much of God’s Word which was previously foreign to him.

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
–John 16:13

2- There is another reason that believers do not possess perfect knowledge of all things despite the indwelling of the Holy Spirit: the Holy Spirit might be present, but He lives in a body of dirt (dust).

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
–Genesis 2:7

The sharp contrast of God’s Holy Spirit living in a body of corruption, decay and dirt was what the apostle Paul was referring to in 2CORINTHIANS 4:7.

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”

MORE: Man’s Suit of Dirt: Treasure in Earthen Vessels

3- There is yet ANOTHER reason why believers do not yet possess a perfect knowledge of all things, though they have the ‘mind of Christ.’

Believers may have the Spirit of God dwelling inside of them, but this is NOT the full-blown Holy Spirit as He will be when believers are no longer hampered by their corrupt bodies. Once the body of a believer is transformed, then the Holy Spirit will be present in all of His glory.

“For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”
–1CORINTHIANS 15:53-55

UNTIL that time believers are completely transformed, the Holy Spirit which is present in the believer is only a down payment: what the Bible calls an “earnest.

“Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.”
–2CORINTHIANS 1:21-22

So, believers operate with a PORTION of the Holy Spirit they will receive later, after their bodies are transformed into incorruptible bodies.

4- The mind of God and the mind of Christ are one and the same.

5- Though it may seem like believers are laboring under a handicap by not yet having the full mind of Christ or a full portion of God’s Holy Spirit, it would be a mistake for any to think so.

A portion of God’s Holy Spirit still packs an incredible amount of spiritual punch.

Though the mind of Christ may have limits in this corrupt body and in this present world, enjoying the fruits of a portion of the Holy Spirit guiding a believer ‘into all truth’ is very powerful.

Deceptions which may have only been pondered–or not recognized at all–are revealed.

God’s Word is studied with a new-found burst of understanding.

IN FACT, the believer may initially be somewhat surprised at the wealth of new knowledge without a visible source which he possesses.

“How do I know this?” may be the top question the new believer finds himself asking when is not yet aware that he has the ‘mind of Christ.’

DOES the reader have the mind of Christ?

DOES the reader hope to achieve this condition in the near future?

The Fantasy Worlds Created For and Inhabited By the Deceived During the End Times

broadcast

One of the greatest “services” which Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) provides to all of those are deceived is the many false worlds it creates for the end times deceived to inhabit.

These false worlds are mainly created by the deceived themselves–greatly assisted by the “magic” of modern entertainment: movies, TV, video, computer and online fantasy worlds, music.  The list goes on.

IN these fantasy worlds, everyone thinks the same way; and has the same kind of thoughts.

From those who play the role of “host” to those who play the roles of “experts,” what is said is very much predictable.

This then, is a VERY comfortable world for the deceived.

One enterprise creates a world which is friendly to one point of view; another organization creates a world which is friendly to the exact opposite point of view.

Eventually, worlds of different flavors in between are created for all those who like to believe themselves to be “free thinkers.

In ALL cases, the “hosts” of each of these make-believe worlds–assisted by hours of video “proof“–TEACH their inhabitants the ground rules: what are acceptable thoughts–and what are not.

And so the deceived, who cling to their TV sets soaking up notions someone else has thought for them, slide further into deception.

In ALL cases, those who create the fantasy world determine what is right and wrong.

What is wrong is very much agreed upon.

What is right is very much agreed upon.

But what is MOST agreed upon is that ANY who disagree with the thoughts expressed in these make-believe worlds are EVIL (or at best, IGNORANT) MEN to be overcome by any and all means necessary.

The deceived find all of this almost irresistible: a world where they agree with everyone and EVERYONE IN THESE WORLDS AGREE WITH THEM.

And one of the first thoughts one learns in these fantasy worlds is that the Word of God (the Bible) has gotten it wrong; that God’s Word might have been fine thousands of years ago, but NOW–in the modern world–the Bible is hopelessly dated.

And so, the deceived learn a whole NEW system: a whole new “what is right and what is wrong.”

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!”
–Isaiah 5:20-21

And then, the deceived leave the comfort of their make-believe world to enter the REAL WORLD, looking for others to convert to their way of thinking; of others who can be introduced to their own, little world made especially for THEM.

And THEN afterwards, the deceived may have REAL conversations with REAL people–mostly about the fantasy world in which they both inhabit.

DOES the reader immerse himself in one TV channel or one type of magazine or one type of op-ed pieces?

DOES the reader think those who believe differently are “not very smart“?

HAS the reader ever considered that it may be HIMSELF who is deceived?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
