Isaiah’s ‘covenant with death’ is NOT a peace treaty
August 2020
“Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it. “
–Isaiah 28:15,18
In Isaiah 28, a reference is TWICE made to a “covenant with death.”
Modern deceitful teachers–spinning a convoluted story of what happens in the end times–have twisted this fairly obvious phrase to mean “a peace treaty.”
It is NOT.
IN FACT, just this past week, another false teacher sent an email which in which the following was included.
Pastor XXX and XXXX discuss the coming OVERFLOWING SCOURGE of Isaiah 28:15-18 that overtakes the planet and motivates Israel to sign the SEVEN-YEAR TRIBULATION COVENANT. Discover why your unsaved love ones are at HIGH RISK of being swept away by the OVERFLOWING SCOURGE!
This passage reflects the “peace treaty” campaign of deceptive Bible teachers everywhere in the end times.

In the false teachers’ telling: Israel is the good guy, the antichrist is the villain and a ‘covenant with death’ becomes a peace treaty between the good guys and the villain.
This is a fairly NEW deception which was unheard of for centuries.
–We have made a covenant with death, &c. To be in covenant with, is a kind of proverbial expression to denote perfect security from evil and mischief of any sort.
—British Family Bible notes
Covenant with death–with hell–at agreement; the covenant is, that death and hell shall not injure them. This they say not in word, but in spirit and action. They are confident that their lying devices will save them.
In nothing does the desperate wickedness of men more clearly manifest itself than in the delusions which they practise upon themselves in respect to escaping the punishment of their sins. Every transgressor has some “refuge of lies” in which he hopes to be saved, though he neglects the only way of salvation which God has provided for him
—Family Bible Notes
Disannulled; made void, or of none effect; it shall stand you in no stead.
Ye shall be trodden down by it; which you flattered yourselves that it should not come unto you, Isa 28:15.
—Matthew Poole’s Commentary on the Holy Bible
The reader should make no mistake: earlier Bible teachers were deceptive, but they had to be much more careful, as the populace had much more knowledge of God’s Word. It was only in the biblically-ignorant latter days that such an egregious teaching as “the covenant with death is a peace treaty’ was formulated and became popular.
A covenant is an AGREEMENT–in the Bible, covenant is frequently used to describe the agreement between God and believers (first, the children of Israel [the First or Old Covenant] and later, with all men [the Second or New Covenant or the NEW AGREEMENT between God and all of mankind through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ (the New Covenant]).
Many times God promised to make a new covenant with His people.
“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
–Jeremiah 31:31-33
“For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.”
–Hebrews 8:7
NOWHERE in the Bible is a peace treaty referred to as a “covenant.”
In addition, God’s Word makes NO mention of a “seven-year covenant.”
The Seven Year Covenant is Not a Peace Treaty!
Isaiah 18’s reference to a ‘covenant with death’ describes something over which many among the children of Israel stumbled: both in Isaiah’s day and during the end times–NOT a peace treaty.
“For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire”
–Isaiah 66:15
“And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there. Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not. And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name”
–Isaiah 65:9,12,15
“And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.”
–Zephaniah 13:8-9
A covenant is NOT a peace treaty: in the Bible it is used as a word signifying a SPIRITUAL AGREEMENT between God and man.
Do not let the reader be deceived by smooth-talking false teachers.
[NOTE: This is not to say that, at some point, a peace treaty might be signed between the man of sin’s worldwide government and the man-created state called Israel. In fact, because of the relentless promotion over the past hundred years or so by false teacher, this is likely to happen. BUT this will be a deception, NOT something from the Word of God.]
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
