While out and about this past week, a young man was noticed standing on a busy street corner, holding a large sign.
The sign–in LARGE LETTERS–asked “How can you escape the damnation of hell?” Underneath the question was written, “Matthew 23:33”
This made one sit up and take notice!
Was the young man–who looked to be bored, besides being a bit scruffy–offering a salvation message through God’s Word to a busy and largely-unbelieving world?
Because Matthew 23:33 was not in one’s memory, questions about the verse arose on the way home.
Was this a salvation message the young man was displaying to a busy world?
Was this only another deception made to look like a salvation message to deceive the world?
Which was it?
What did Matthew 23:33 have to say?
Upon arriving home and entering the house, a Bible was quickly sought out.
And what was it that Matthew 23:33 had to say?
“Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?”
Matthew 23 is largely Jesus telling the crowd–and his disciples–in Jerusalem about the the scribes and Pharisees; basically, the church leaders of Jesus’ day.
“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!”
Verse 33 is merely one of the things Jesus asked those whom he called “hypocrites.”
The young man’s sign turned out to be something rarely seen in the end times: something which was in God’s Word and correctly passed along to any who might be interested.
But it was NOT a salvation message.
DID the reader know what Matthew 23:33 was about?
OR, did the reader–like most other moderns–ignore what was on that young man’s sign?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
