One’s Lifelong Network

wolf in sheep's clothing; wolves in the pulpit

“My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.”
–Proverbs 1:10,15-16

When one was younger, there seemed to be a tremendous migration from one’s neighborhood to places far off which appeared to be offering better jobs, more money and more opportunity.

“Come on!  Why don’t you go, too?  Everybody’s going!  Make a lot of money and besides, we’ll have a lot of fun, too!”

BUT not every young, VERY deceived heathen is deceived about EVERYTHING–and IF something sounds too good to be true, it most likely IS.

And so, one watched as his acquaintances hit the road to seek out fame and fortune in copper mines; in the trendiest boutiques; in cities where good musicians were appreciated.  Practically all were filled with hopes and dreams and youthful optimism.

“Come on!  Why don’t you go, too?  Everybody’s going!  Make a lot of money and besides, we’ll have a lot of fun, too!”

And what was the reply when asked to join in the migratory fun?

“I don’t think so.  You know, you spend your whole life building up relationships with people and building your network.  I can’t see throwing all of that away.  Besides, I can always go later.”

“Better go now while the gettin’s good!  You’ll be sorry.  We’ll be rolling in the dough and you’ll be stuck here trying to build a better network!”

But not ever rabbit hole is miles away.  Some can be found quite close to home.

And not everyone who smiles and pats a youth on the back and promises pie-in-the-sky is his friend.

Years after those youthful taunts ceased, occasionally one is reminded of what was said those many years ago when one meets one of those former journeyers on the street (after they had come back–“It wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.”).

The latest thoughts associated with that particular time have to do with NETWORKS and the questions which one has upon revisiting those memories.

When one is a young heathen, the networks one builds mostly have to do with money and opportunity (the same things one’s friends traveled far away to try their hands at).

Those networks were LONG on what a person could do for you and SHORT on what type of man that person was.

And so, one’s networks were naturally FILLED with associations with the wicked. (Of course, at the time, one was wicked ALSO–just younger and less experienced with the ways of the world.)

The wicked–being who they are–many times led young, deceived heathens on wild-goose chases.  The only difference between the misadventures of all of those wanderers one knew and one’s self was that at least one didn’t have far to go to be misused.

The primary question which seems to pop up years later is fairly rhetorical in nature; i.e., the answer is already known when the question is asked.

“Wouldn’t it have saved a lot of time and running around and resources IF one hadn’t associated with the wicked in the first place?  No matter what advantages they seemed to offer?”

So much for one’s network which one placed so much youthful emphasis on.

DOES the reader spend much time “building his network“?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
