“For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
It is most certainly NOT an original thought to say that life on this earth is SHORT.
It is most certainly NOT an original thought to say that one should make the best of what short time he has.
And, it is most certainly NOT an original thought to say that youth is but a momentary phase all who dwell on the earth must pass through.
EVEN THOUGH those three statements are true, most hear those truths and chuckle. The laughter comes from the almost universal disbelief that ANY of that could possibly apply to the one doing the laughing.
Particularly in the case of youth.
The youth cannot imagine himself as anything other than his present incarnation. The youth believes he may age, BUT the youth believes he will basically remain muscular, firm and taut–perhaps with a little gray hair. But that would be about the ONLY difference he can imagine.
Because most youths mistakenly believe that the secret to remaining young is “keeping in shape.”
“I might get older, but I’ll stay in shape! You’ll see!”
To all those who tell the youth they were once younger like him, the youth laughs–mostly in disbelief.
Because the youth believes he will ALWAYS be young–unlike all of those old fuddy-duddies— the youth trades on his temporary gifts lavished on the youth due to his short span of years.
AND SO, the world promotes those youthful attributes–particularly of women–until they get a few years older.
THEN, the world finds another youth to take their place.
One of the things the world likes about the youth is that they work so cheaply.
“This will help get your foot in the door! You are on your way!”
The world also knows that the youth is NOT so special: youth is EXPENDABLE; i.e., there will ALWAYS be more youth tomorrow and the day after that and the day after…
IF ONLY the youth believed the Bible.
God’s Word warns of how short life is.
BUT, the youth do not believe it.
AND SO, the cycle continues: promote a youth, replace a youth. Repeat.
Youth–like life itself–is momentary.
BUT youth finds that truth hard to believe: youth believes he will be on earth in a largely unchanged form all of his days.
“There’s a reason they say ‘DIe young and leave a pretty corpse.'”
Perhaps, that is part of the charm of youth?
“As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.”
Is the reader a youth?
OR, is the reader one who can remember how misleading being young can be?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
DOES the reader believe he is NOT saved?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
