BIBLE CONTRADICTIONS: What Happens to the Earth?

arrow up arrow down

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:14

Time once again to revisit the topic of the so-called “Biblical contradictions.”

And this time, rather than read about the so-called “contradictions in the Bible,” the topic was brought up in a conversation!

The topic?

What happens to the earth? Does it get destroyed or does it last forever?

After answering the question(s) and later thinking, “Gee, that might make an interesting article,” it was discovered that this very question was already covered almost TWO YEARS AGO at ETPR.

After re-reading what was written earlier, it was decided that what was written then on the topic was fairly comprehensive and correct.

SO, it was further decided to reprint it.

From Biblical Contradictions?

3- Ecclesiastes 1:4 vs. 2PETER 3:10

… the earth abideth for ever.
–Ecclesiastes 1:4

“and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
–2PETER 3:10

RECONCILIATION: The earth will abide forever–though the old earth will pass away after the return of Jesus Christ and God will create a new earth.

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
–Revelation 21:1,5

“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
–Isaiah 65:17

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
–2PETER 3:13

“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.”
–Revelation 20:11

“For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. and they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.”
–Isaiah 66:22-24

“Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.”
–Isaiah 55:6

SO, for the short answer (given to that inquiring mind on the day his questions were raised):

The earth we are living in presently shall be TOTALLY DESTROYED (by God, in God’s time, NOT by man in man’s timing).  BUT a brand NEW EARTH will be created in its place.  God will dwell on this newly-created earth with those men who were born again spiritually and eternally saved.

NOT just the earth will be re-fashioned: the heavens above the earth will also be remade.  Which makes sense.  The present earth has known sin.  The present heavens ALSO knew sin (when Lucifer rebelled – Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14).

SO, God will create a heaven and earth that are perfect in every way and have NOT known transgression.

God’s Word is PERFECTLY CLEAR on the subject.

The earth WILL abide forever.

“One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.”
–Ecclesiastes 1:4

“Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.”
–Psalm 104:5

HOWEVER, the earth WILL undergo some changes.

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
–Revelation 21:1,5

DOES the reader believe the words of the Bible because they are the Words of God?

OR, does the reader believe that the Bible is “just a book of stories?”

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
