The Jews: Pros and Cons

Muslim Brotherhood Claims Egyptian interim president, Adly Mansour, is of Jewish descent.

“For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.”
–Hebrews 8:8-11

Not so very long ago, a spirited conversation was held about the Jews:

Are they the “people of God’?

Why do so many who live so wickedly seem to prosper?

Why would God pick a people who gave Him so much trouble (as recorded in God’s Word)?

Why do so many who are OBVIOUSLY NOT Jews want the world to believe they ARE?

The last question will be addressed first.

Jesus already answered it almost 2000 years ago.

“I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.”
–Revelation 2:9

In fact, that very thing (not being a Jew but acting to the world as if one was) was addressed by Jesus TWICE.

“Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.”
–Revelation 3:9

Why would one want the world to think he was a Jew, surely one of the most publicly-persecuted groups in history?

During the end times, the world is deceived–and a deceived world still mistakenly believes that anyone who claims they are a Jew is part of the “people of God.”

Part of this has to do with the world being deceived.

BUT, part of the deception is due to Satan’s ceaseless promotion, such as calling the area around Jerusalem “the Holy Land.”

Obviously, a great many believe that those who claim to be Jews are holy due to a great many having been taught from an early age that membership in a particular group is more important than the behavior of each member of that group.

In the end times, there are many who encourage this mistaken belief for their own reasons.

This mistaken belief will help further the acceptance of the man of sin (the false Messiah, the false prophet).

God’s Word declares that the Jews are a peculiar people.

HOWEVER, that declaration contains a few conditions.

“Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.”
–Exodus 19:5-6

During the end times, there are a great many who pretend to be Jews.

Why do so many who live such public lives filled with wickedness appear to prosper? AND

Why would God pick a people who gave Him so much trouble (as recorded in God’s Word)?

“And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.”
-Romans 3:8-9

God made a LOT of promises to Abraham (the only man who, in God’s Word, is called a “friend” of God).

“And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.”
–James 2:23

“Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?”
–2CHRONICLES 20:7

God also made a LOT of promises to Issac and Jacob (Israel). The descendants of those who were promised sometimes reap the benefits of those promises–at least for a short while.

Sometimes, God does this for His Holy Name’s sake.

“Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.”
–Ezekiel 36:22

Sometimes, God does this for the sake of those earlier promises made to the “fathers.”

“As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.”
–Romans 11:28

BUT, at the end of the day, every man is judged for his own actions. AND THEN, all of those who appear to prosper in this shortest of lives will be judged.

AND mostly, will be found wanting.

Why would God pick a people who gave Him so much trouble (as recorded in God’s Word)?

The Hebrews were the beneficiaries of having many men among them who had an early faith in God.

Moses, David, Jacob, Issac, Abraham…

AND, God repeatedly sent men He had raised up to be prophets to the Hebrews.

BUT, as the prophet Elijah declared.

“And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
–1KINGS 19:14

Jesus Himself echoed Elijah in Matthew 23:37.

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!”

According to the Bible, when Moses led the Hebrews from Egypt, there were a great many unbelievers among them. Is it surprising to learn that the same situation exists in the end times?

HOWEVER, because of those early fathers (Moses, David, Daniel, Jacob, Issac, Abraham and others) AND because of the constant attention paid by God to those Hebrews of the early covenant, the Jews were the best people God had to work with.

SO, regardless of their many documented shortcomings (idolatry and unbelief, in particular), the Jews became the “people of God.”

The New (Second) Covenant opened up membership to those who were PREVIOUSLY on the outside looking in, but for the “fathers’ sake” and for the “sake of My Holy Name,” God WILL save a remnant of those Hebrews who remain during the end times.

“And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.”
–Zechariah 13:8-9

That discussion not so very long ago yielded OTHER thoughts.

BUT those other thoughts will have to wait until another time.

God willing.

DOES the reader believe that belonging to a particular group makes one holy?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
