Great Expectations

Once one leaves the life of a heathen and becomes a believer, many occasions for worry simply vanish.

This usually does not happen all at once.  But after the believer has experienced the various facets of his new life, then the things which once worried him grow less frequent.

Part of this has to do with the lessening of one’s focus on this present life.  After all, this present life is short and is ONLY A TEST to see where one will spend the rest of eternity.

Nothing more, nothing less.

BUT, a big part of this relief comes from the KNOWING that God WILL provide.  The provision of God NEVER runs dry.

“Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God. For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.”
–Psalm 50:7,10

ALSO, as a believer, part of the informational “download” one receives is KNOWING and BELIEVING that every word in the Word of God is true. This has to do with the Holy Spirit of God taking up residence in the new believer–and the Holy Spirit will lead that person into ALL truth.

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
–John 16:13

So, the believer is confident that the Word of God IS true.

And there is MUCH in the Word of God about the LORD providing for his people.

“The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.”
–Proverbs 10:3

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
–Philippians 4:19

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
–Psalm 23:1

“And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.”
–Jeremiah 23:4

Instead of thinking of God as some sort of abstract concept, the believer KNOWS that God is the Creator, the Living God, the LORD of ALL.

“Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God. For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.”
–Psalm 50:7,10

Where once there was worry and anxiety about the future and where will various provision come from, NOW the believer knows that God WILL provide the believer with all his needs.

Contrast this to what the worldly experience.

Many of the worldly have their hopes and fears about the future.  Many have invested their hopes in MAN and the various SCHEMES OF MAN. Because man is NOT God, the worldly are often disappointed with the results he obtains from man–and is largely in need  of (or fear a lack) of needed items.

So, non-believers FREQUENTLY experience disappointment and frustration. These failures and shortfalls naturally temper the enthusiasm and faith the non-believer has in the world being able to deliver on any lengthy promises of provision.

BUT, because the non-believer is OF THE WORLD, he usually does NOT turn to God.

And so over time, the non-believer becomes cynical about ANYTHING being provided. Because the non-believer is deceived, this cynicism extends to God (of whom the non-believer has NO experience)–as well as the worldly alternatives, which the non-believer knows all too well.

While the believer has Great Expectations of God’s provision, the non-believer has almost No Expectations of such security.

Great Expectations.

To the believer, Great Expectations is more than the title of a well-known Charles Dickens’ novel.

HAS the reader ever thought about the provision of God?

DOES the reader have any great expectations?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
