The Hype Surrounding Familiar Spirits

hype

“And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?”
–Isaiah 8:19

There are a GREAT MANY men who are fascinated by the spiritual beings the Bible calls “familiar spirits.”

It not hard for one to discover why this is.  Because these entities exist on a different, non-physical plane, they do not observe the same physical laws as do man.

plane

A level of existence or development. (eg, astral plane)

Because they live on a different level of existence, their actions–whenever they interact with man–seem as though they are imbued with great powers.

They are not.

HOWEVER, man is fairly easy to impress–particularly when it comes to power.

And so, in search of POWER, many are the men who fall prey to the familiar spirit’s deceptions.

What, exactly, is a familiar spirit (often called a “familiar” by those who utilize such entities)?

In European folklore and folk-belief of the Medieval and Early Modern periods, familiars (sometimes referred to as “familiar spirits” or “animal guides“) were believed to be supernatural entities that would assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic.
[…]

Pierre A. Riffard proposed this definition and quotations

A familiar spirit –(alter ego, doppelgänger, personal demon, personal totem, spirit companion) is the double, the alter-ego, of an individual. It does not look like the individual concerned. Even though it may have an independent life of its own, it remains closely linked to the individual. The familiar spirit can be an animal (animal companion).

And the reader should have NO doubts: because the familiar spirit is a slightly higher order of being, he is MUCH more intelligent than man.  Which makes him a MUCH better deceiver than the average guy in search of POWER.

But the man in search of earthly power is deluded anyway, so the familiar spirit ordinarily doesn’t have to work very hard to put a hook in that man’s mouth.

ONE of the biggest deceptions is that the familiar spirit SERVES THE MAN, who supposes himself to be “master” of the spirit.  This is a fairly laughable story, but it is one that has successfully hooked a great number of men.  And make no mistake: the familiar spirit is put on earth to cause wicked men to stumble, NOT to provide them with powers which men do not normally possess.

IF the man who chases after POWER paid more attention to the Word of God–instead of coveting earthly POWER–he would NOT associate with familiar spirits, as the Bible warns on more than one occasion.

“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD”
–Deuteronomy 18:10-12

Earthly power is a tremendous temptation to those who crave the PRIDE OF LIFE (the world’s acclaim)–which is a primary reason many men and women consult with familiar spirits.

A great many women who have felt powerless have fallen prey to the allure of having a familiar spirit.  Hence, the great number of witches and the great number of stories about how these women prospered because of the “power” of their familiar spirit.

Anyone who is conversant with witches KNOWS that, in spite of their great claimed powers, they receive little in the way of protection when the going gets rough–which it often does.

This is one area where the reader can see the HYPE surrounding familiar spirits.

Anyone who knows the stories we call HISTORY has read about the various ‘witch trials.’

WHY can’t their familiar spirit protect their “masters”  from harm?

Even if one believes the many deceptive tales told about “spells” and “hexes” and “magic”–which those who have familiar spirits tell others to mask where their otherworldly abilities come from–one still has to wonder, “Where is this great power when it comes to a witch being hanged or burned?”

Naturally, those who consult with familiar spirits want others to think that they possess a great benefit: powers beyond those of ordinary mortals (which seems to go a long way in the deception department), access to knowledge others do not have and a conduit into a spiritual network which others desire but do not have.

BUT, the powers of the familiar spirit are greatly hyped.

This is because familiar spirits were created BY GOD in order that wicked men who ignored the warnings of the LORD might stumble and fall.

Familiar spirits are NOT a great benefit.

They are a JUDGMENT from God on the wicked who will NOT heed the warnings in God’s Word.

Anyone who doubts this need only read 1SAMUEL 18:6-12, 28:1-25,31:1-13.

WHAT does the reader believe about familiar spirits?

HAS the reader been taught that belief in otherworldly spirits is the sign of a primitive mind?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Is God An Optimist?

optimistic

A few days ago, it was offered that “God has no faith.

And today, the question is asked, “Is God an optimist?

First, what IS an ‘optimist‘?

a person who expects a favourable outcome

FIRST, some information on God BEING an optimist.

1 God loves His creation–particularly MAN.

“We love him, because he first loved us.”
–1JOHN 4:19

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
–Romans 5:8

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
–John 3:16

2 Usually, when someone loves something, they hope for the best for that something.

3 ‘Hoping for the best’ is the mark of an OPTIMIST.

LASTLY, some information that God is NO OPTIMIST.

1 God is NOT a man.

“God is not a man”
–Numbers 23:19

2 God is NOT man. God sees and knows ALL.

“For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.”
–1JOHN 3:20

“Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?”
–Job 37:16

3 Because God inhabits EVERY moment of time–past, present and future–God knows EXACTLY what will occur. Because of His perfect knowledge of all, God is also intimately acquainted with the failings of His creation–particularly man.

“Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
–Isaiah 42:9

4 Because God knows what is to happen, He knows how often man fails at upholding what is right.

5 USUALLY, when one knows another’s failings, one is not likely to be an optimist.

Therefore, it is impossible for God to be an optimist (‘hoping for the best’) because God KNOWS what is to happen. God does NOT have to hope.

He KNOWS.

BUT, because God loves man, God gave His Son, Jesus Christ, so that man–through God’s grace and mercy–might have a way to save himself from hell.

So, while God may NOT be an optimist, God–through His previous actions–demonstrated His love for man.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
–Romans 5:8

KNOWING that a few will be saved is better than HOPING that all will be saved.

Man can be optimistic because man does NOT know the outcome of future events.

Man HOPES for certain outcomes, about which he does not know.

Just because man does not know the outcome of future events does not affect God, who DOES know the outcome.

And so, because God is not a man; because God KNOWS (NOT hopes) what is to happen: God is not an optimist.

“God is not a man”
–Numbers 23:19

DOES the reader believe God is an optimist?

DOES the reader struggle to understand how God can inhabit the future?

DOES the reader struggle with the idea of an all-knowing, all-seeing omniscient God?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

He Knows

know

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed [Jesus], saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.”
–Psalm 2:1-5

One thing Satan’s minions most probably do NOT take into account when they work–sometimes, for YEARS at their deceptions and other end times plans–is that God knows EXACTLY what they are doing, what they are planning AND what will be the result of all of their work.

OF COURSE, the hopelessly-deceived foot soldiers of Satan do not believe there IS a God–and they CERTAINLY do not believe that He will interfere with their carefully-constructed end times machinations.

What a TOTAL SHOCK it must be when those poor, benighted souls finally realize that–of all of the MANY things they got wrong in life–they got one of the most important points WRONG.

God can laugh (Psalm 2:4) at them in derision because God already exists at EVERY point in time–and God KNOWS that their plans come to nought.

Because their schemes pit their puny human efforts–along with the efforts of their over-valued familiar spirits–against God Almighty, the Creator of ALL, including those who imagine themselves to be the future masters of the universe.

OF COURSE, the hopelessly-deceived ones who give the orders for the foot soldiers of Satan claim they believe there IS a God–and they CERTAINLY (but mistakenly) believe they are laboring for Him.

“They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.”
–John 16:2

God knows.

Man does not know, so man HOPES.

It does not matter to God that a great many of His creation (man) do NOT believe in Him in the end times.

It does not matter to God that some of His creation (man) cannot tell the difference between service to God and service to Satan.

God has already provided ALL who want to know an account of what happens in that time.

God can laugh because he KNOWS the workers of iniquity are working for His purposes.

God can laugh because he KNOWS how feeble are the efforts of those who believe they can triumph over God.

But mostly, God can laugh because he KNOWS the results of all of those many years of their deceptions and hard work.

He knows.

God knows because he is already there in what men call “tomorrow”–just as the workers of iniquity will be there themselves tomorrow.

Then THEY will KNOW too.

“And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse [Jesus], and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.”
–Revelation 19:19-21

“And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”
–Revelation 20:1-3

“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”
–Revelation 20:10

Who is Betsy?

questions

IF one has grown up in the country once known as the United States of America, one has, no doubt, heard someone exclaim, “Heavens to Betsy!”

Once upon a time, one heard this phrase fairly frequently–especially while watching television.

Though some enterprising souls have claimed to know the origin of this phrase, MOST admit such information will likely NEVER be known.

Heavens to Betsy

This American phrase has been in circulation since, primarily restricted to America, the latter part of the 19th century, although its use faded throughout the 20th century and it is now something of an anachronism. The first example of it that I can find is from the US journal Ballou’s dollar monthly magazine, Volume 5, January 1857
[…]
The etymologist Charles Earle Funk published Heavens to Betsy! and other curious sayings in 1955. In that he ventured the opinion that the origins of ‘Heavens to Betsy’ were “completely unsolvable”.

One day, believers will know all.

But that day is not today.

And so, reliable information about the exclamation, “Heavens to Betsy!” remains unknown.

HAS the reader heard this phrase?
