Just Because You Can Do Something Doesn’t Mean You Should

We Can Do It poster

“All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.”
–1CORINTHIANS 10:23

This past week–while consulting with the local computer repairman–the concept of being ABLE TO DO something VS. WHETHER YOU SHOULD DO that something was the focus of some advice.

The topic was one which concerned setting up a corner of one’s computer onto which could be installed a completely different operating system.  In this way, one might be able to run software designed for TWO different operating systems on the same computer.

“Well, that’s an idea–but it might not be such a good idea.”

“What do you mean?  It would definitely work!”

Oh, it would work all right.  But it would be very, very SLOW.  Is that something you would like?”

“No, I’m not really into wanting one of the systems to run slow.”

“Well, you know: just because you CAN do something doesn’t always mean you SHOULD do it.”

This reminded one of two different verses in 1st Corinthians which say essentially the same thing (10:23 and 6:12).

However, the Bible verses were not referring to the utilitarian usefulness of the something in question.

The two verses in 1st Corinthians refer to whether the something one might do EDIFIES (constructively educates/instructs) or not.

All things; which are good to eat, may at proper times be eaten and even meat which had been offered to idols was not changed, and would not injure Paul: but it would not on that account be right for him to partake of it in idolatrous feasts, because his doing so might injure others.
Family Bible Notes

As one coach put it, “There’s a LOT of situations where whether you CAN do something is not the same as whether that something SHOULD be done.”

This is a lesson which the youth appear to have a hard time learning.

When one is young, one’s thoughts are on what is ALLOWED or LAWFUL to do.  This is a lesson which is most applied it seems, when a youth is driving a vehicle.

The youth is absorbed by what he LEGALLY can do while driving.

NOT what he SHOULD be doing.

Just because one CAN do something doesn’t mean that one SHOULD do it.

One does not have to be a youth to learn this important lesson: plenty of older folks do not fully consider the consequences of their actions before acting.

And so, this is just one more thing for the reader to consider BEFORE he decides IF he ought to engage in a particular behavior or not.

“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”
–-1CORINTHIANS 6:12

DOES the reader ever consider that what he is ABLE to do might not be so good for him to do?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

When One Was a Heathen…

heathen

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”
–2CORINTHIANS 10:5

Every once in a while–usually on the odd occasion when one’s body (and consciousness) is otherwise preoccupied–the mind will wander.

It was on one such recent occasion that the mind entered into that spacious arena where man entertains himself by playing “WHAT IF?

WHAT IF?

And so, it was on that recent occasion that THIS mind entertained a number of “WHAT IF?“s–many of them having to do with times long past when one was a church-goer but was firmly of the mindset of a heathen (pagan).

“I wonder what would have happened IF I had become a Christian when I was younger?  IF I had, it would have been a COMPLETELY different life, not the one I lived–not that the one I lived was unhappy.”

“WHAT IF I had become a Christian when I was younger?  Would that life have been happier or more anxious than the one I lived?”

“But IF I had known all of the things I know now, how could I NOT become a Christian? Well, again: that would have been a completely different life than the one I lived.”

“IF the ordinary, run-of-the-mill pagan would have become AWARE of the knowledge a Christian has, how could he NOT switch sides?”

“Well, hey, IF the most committed Satanist had access to the knowledge a Christian receives upon conversion, how could HE not switch sides?”

During this time of wandering thoughts, some of the musings were not “WHAT IF?” questions.  Some of the thoughts had to do with largely losing–but not totally!–one’s fear after experiencing the NEW SPIRITUAL REBIRTH.

God gives the Christian the “peace that passeth all understanding.”

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
–Philippians 4:7

The workers of iniquity–and other of Satan’s foot soldiers–attempt to give the Christian anxiety, distress and fear.  It’s not restricted to Christians however.  Satan tries to upset ALL mankind: the fearful being MUCH easier to control.

Which is a prime reason Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) manufactures so much fear, anxiety, doubt, worry and anxiousness.

So, God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, gives one peace.

PARTICULARLY in the end times, Satan, through his workers of iniquity, attempts to provoke anxiety and fear.

WHO does the reader think will win that battle?

At least one of the “WHAT IF” questions would NOT have been given the time of day back when one was a heathen.

“WHAT IF totally depending on God is tempting Him?  When does depending totally on God for EVERYTHING (protection, guidance, provenance) start becoming “tempting God” (putting God to the test)?

“And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
–Luke 4:12

When it was time to exit the “WHAT IF?” arena (mostly because the tedious task one was engaged in was over), the LAST thought highlighted the man difference between one’s former life as a heathen and one’s present life as a member of the kingdom of heaven.

“IF I was still lost, I wouldn’t have spent 5 seconds wondering about any of that!”

Perhaps the BIGGEST “WHAT IF?” question the spiritually-reborn Christian will have to consider is the one which is asked by those who do not believe–but nevertheless entertain a few doubts of their own.

“But What IF You’re Wrong?”

Fake News

newspaper on fire

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
–2TIMOTHY 4:3-4

About four years ago, then-candidate Donald Trump began suddenly using a phrase which got an incredible amount of media attention and which overwhelmed the search engines on the Internet.

Fake News.

Trump used his newly-found phrase repeatedly, almost always to signify news with which he disagreed or he felt was unfavorable to him or his campaign.

At least that’s the way the world understood it.

After Donald Trump was selected as president, he continued to play (for months!) with his new toy, repeatedly referring to “fake news.”

And Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media)–supposedly filled with rabid anti-Trumpers–dutifully covered every time our president uttered “fake news.”

Which created THOUSANDS of media pieces which featured the theme of “fake news.”

Now, all of this is a matter of record.

What caused Donald Trump to begin using “fake news” so suddenly and so frequently?

Who can say?

BUT Donald Trump–and those of Satan’s Mouthpiece who write about “fake news”– missed telling public the entire point of the phrase.

Fake news” is NOT news which is unfavorable to the one who is using that phrase.

Fake news” is NOT the occasional website which insists it specializes in “satire” which cause readers to have misunderstood its sophisticated scribbles.

Fake news” is NOT the supposed malcontent who is passing off ‘false information’ as true news.

Fake news” is MUCH easier to understand than all of that which has been cobbled together over the past four-five years.

Fake news” is fake news.

In other words, practically ALL of what the reader believes is NEWS is manufactured; i.e., FAKE.

This heavy smog of lies, propaganda and other deceptions which so many use to guide themselves through this life is part of Satan’s carefully-constructed FALSE REALITY which surrounds modern man.

ETPR ARCHIVE – FALSE REALITY

So many of the world’s outlets spend so much of their time telling modern man how incredibly intelligent and clever he is.

After a while, modern man believes it.

So modern man would find it almost impossible to believe he has been hoodwinked by the construction of a completely false reality, of which he is NOT aware.

Which is why warning folks of the false reality and the REAL “fake news” is not very effective.

Modern man believes himself to be too smart to fall for any of that.

“It’s easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled.”
Mark Twain

And so it has been with modern man: he has been made a fool of at every turn by those who he believes provides him with useful information.

Educators, those who construct puzzles he enjoys in his evening newspaper, government officials, reporters, magazine writers, comedians, authors, scientists, Hollywood stars, scientific writers, even those fashionable, cool folks known as CELEBRITIES: all have contributed to his complete ignorance of his world.

Fake news” is NOT the occasional, false information: “fake news” is the wholesale substitution of lies, advertising (lies), propaganda, and deception for truthful, trustworthy reporting/information.

And, woe to any who try to right this wrong!

Modern man is not having any of it!

He is MUCH too clever to have the wool pulled over HIS eyes!

Which is one big reason such a GREAT MANY moderns will be so completely surprised by end times events.

“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
–2THESSALONIANS 2:10-12
