The BIG Problem With Trying to Prepare Physically For the Last Days

prepper alert!

There are many different problems with man trying to PHYSICALLY prepare for the last days.

BUT there is ONE BIG PROBLEM which the survivalists and preppers–no matter how hard they try–cannot get around.

A few of the issues which will confront the preppers during the last days include (but are not limited to):

  1. One cannot outsmart God.
  2. The calamities and judgments of the last days are specifically designed to separate those who employ FAITH to guide them from those whose focus is on this world and the things of the world.  Those who walk by FAITH will be saved; those who walk by SIGHT will not.
  3. No matter how much time, money and effort is put into planning for the end times, man cannot think of everything. There will ALWAYS be something he forgets to horde.
  4. Because there is that nagging feeling that one is forgetting something, preppers make a great many lists to help them remember it all. But no matter how many lists are made, the act of PHYSICALLY trying to prepare becomes a TORMENT instead of a peace because one has secured his future with gold, guns, gold and groceries.

These are only a FEW of the many problems with someone trying to PHYSICALLY prepare for the last days.  BUT there is one HUGE problem which cannot be overcome, no matter how detailed is the planning of the most devoted prepper.

And that problem is?

No matter how much stuff one stores for a rainy day, IF a person uses that stuff regularly, it will eventually run out.

There is a BETTER way–BUT IF one has become a prepper

  1. he does NOT believe in God’s Word; and
  2. he has already put his faith in the things of the world.

Things Are Often NOT As They Appear To Be

mask, appearances

One was reminded this past week of an important point which should be kept in mind during the times in which we now live.

Things are often not as they appear to be.

The “something from the past” which served as this reminder?

There was a man and his wife.  They were married for a long time (at least 48 years).  The man was VERY assertive in public.  Although very confrontational otherwise, where the man was concerned, his wife was very meek and mild IN PUBLIC and seemingly waited upon this man hand and foot.

THEN, an unforeseen health problem struck the man.  The man entered a hospital one day–and exited the hospital a few weeks later–MINUS HIS TWO LEGS, which had been removed by those in the hospital.

NOW, the man was totally dependant upon others–particularly his wife–for almost EVERYTHING.  And his wife seemingly was not as she had so often appeared to be in public: NOW, she taunted the man’s lack of mobility and near-total dependence upon her.

As one person who regularly was in the home put it: “During his last years, he was tormented by her.

And so, the wife who publicly appeared to wait on her husband so agreeably all those many years was not the meek little helpmate so many in the public believed her to be.

Things are often not as they appear to be.

No doubt, the reader is reminded of this IF the reader partakes of the stories of Hollywood’s “stars” and so many other of the world’s rich and celebrated.

Perhaps the reader is NOT surprised by the information revealed in the gossip press?

Perhaps the reader had earlier realized that those who earn their living acting as if they were someone else, really are able to put on an act when in public?

Perhaps the reader merely realized that stories about “celebrities” are mostly lies?

“He (or she) seemed like such a nice person!”

Most of what appears in the “gossip press” is thinly-disguised promotional material for the person named.

Things are often not as they appear to be.

There was a man who had, by hard work and not a little luck, accumulated great wealth during his younger years.

Looking up from his work one day, it struck him that he might grow old by himself.  In an irregular moment of clarity, this man realized that his money would offer very little comfort IF he was alone in his old age.

The man began to scout around for a suitable woman he might engage in holy matrimony.  He thought he had found true happiness when the girl who cut his hair appeared to be madly, secretly in love with him.

And so, the man ended up married to the girl had formerly cut his hair: the girl who (he thought) was secretly in love with him.  A few years later, the man came to the realization that the girl he had married had CHANGED.  NOW, she seemed to be no longer madly in love with him.

IN FACT, there were times it seemed that she could barely stomach him and his hard-working ways–though she was in agreement with what that hard work accomplished.

And so, the man and the girl who had formerly cut his hair parted ways through a divorce. And though the man lost a great deal of his wealth to the girl who had formerly cut his hair, the man had another irregular moment of lucidity which, oddly, did NOT make him feel much better about losing all of that money he had worked so hard, so many years, to accumulate.

EARLIER, the man had discovered that his money would offer very little comfort to him IF he was alone in his old age.

NOW, the man discovered his money would offer very little comfort to him in his old age–alone or otherwise.

Because NOW, the man discovered he no longer had so much money.

IF the man had pondered his circumstance deeper, he might have discovered that one can be alone, even IF one is married to someone.

Things are often not as they appear to be.

Modern man learns so many stories: in school, at work, at play, while watching his favorite movie, playing his favorite computer games.

These stories supposedly inform modern man about how the world around him supposedly works.

But so much of the world works VERY differently from the way most moderns suppose it to work.

Still, this does NOT prevent modern man’s belief that he is SO much smarter than those who came before him–and being so much smarter, modern man imagines that he knows how the world operates; sometimes, down to very tiny details.

Which modern man (believing the many stories he has been told) is happy to relate to ANY who inquire.

Most men do NOT care if they are told the truth about the way the world works: as long as he has the story straight to pass along to any who ask.

IF ONLY modern man would keep in mind:

Things are often not as they appear to be.

DOES the reader find himself noticing the many differences between what he has been told and what plays out in his life?

IS the reader too busy to think much more on these differences and why they are?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

EATING: What the Bible Says About Eating

bug: let's eat!“The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.”
–Proverbs 13:25

The Word of God is a very complete manual for the man or woman who dwells upon the earth.

As such, it contains a GREAT deal of information on how to navigate the treacherous waters of this life.  It also contains a GREAT deal of advice and observations for the man or woman who hopes to live a fulfilled, happy life.

This includes information on the most basic activities–like EATING.

It has become almost a ritual among the mockers and scoffers of the times in which we now live to make fun of the various dietary commands God handed down to the Hebrews in the Old Testament.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
–2PETER 3:3-4

“How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.”
–Jude 1:18

HOWEVER, the mockers and scoffers appear to not EVER extend their mockery to the New Covenant, which does away with most of the old dietary commands–which were used largely as TEACHING tools–and which grants man the freedom to eat pretty much as he pleases–as long as he observes a few important rules.

So what is some of the advice on eating God shares in His Word?

Initially, God had few restrictions on what man could eat. There were a few advisories, but, by and large, man could eat as he pleased.

“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”
–Genesis 1:29

“Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.”
–Genesis 9:3

And there was that ONE BIG restriction in the garden of Eden.

“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. “
–Genesis 2:16-17

But that one big restriction passed away with Adam and Eve breaking that ONE restriction and being evicted from the garden.

Oh, there were still a FEW restrictions. What were they?

For starters, man was NOT to eat the blood of anything that lived.

“But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.”
–Genesis 9:4

“And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood. And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust. For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.”
–Leviticus 17:10-14

“Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh. Thou shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it upon the earth as water. Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.”
–Deuteronomy 12:23-25

The prohibition against eating blood was one of the few restrictions which carried over into the New Covenant, with it’s increased freedoms and liberties for the followers of God through His Son, Jesus Christ.

“For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.”
–Acts 15:28-29

One other prohibition which concerned eating had to do with GLUTTONY or overeating and drunkenness, or consuming too much alcohol.

“Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.”
–Proverbs 23:20-21

A change in emphasis was one of the important CHANGES between the Old and New Covenants. Under the new covenant, all eating and drinking was to be done by recognizing where that provision ultimately came from.

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
–1CORINTHIANS 10:31

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
–Colossians 3:17

“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”
–Ephesians 5:20

The teaching time of the Old Covenant over, the attitude being more free about what was to be eaten by those under the NEW Covenant was summed up by 1TIMOTHY 4:4-5.

“For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”

So now, the emphasis was on giving thanks for all that God had provided man, as part of His creation–instead of prohibiting the eating of entire classes of animals which God had originally created to be enjoyed by man.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
–Genesis 1:27-28

The change in emphasis was just as well, as many men had earlier concentrated on the LETTER of those dietary restrictions instead of focusing on the underlying ideas they were meant to teach.

Still, for all of the many observations, commands and advice offered by God’s Word, surely the most striking–as well as one of the most memorable verses in the entire Bible concerns eating.

It is to be found in Proverbs 25:16–which provided a MUCH more vivid image than what was said in Proverbs 25:27.

“It is not good to eat much honey”
–Proverbs 25:27

“Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.”
–Proverbs 25:16

Isaiah Chapter 11

Isaiah

The eleventh chapter of Isaiah only contains sixteen verses BUT the eleventh chapter of Isaiah contains a concise view of what happens when Jesus Christ returns to earth.

Before, during and after.

The first five verses establish that it will specifically be Jesus Christ who will be returning to rule over earth.

“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.”

The next eleven verses contain various end times events which will happen upon the return of Jesus Christ.

Verses six through 10 lay out events, some of which are mentioned once more–and expanded upon–in the last nine verses of the 65th chapter of Isaiah.

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.”
–Isaiah 11:6-10

The last six verses of Isaiah 11 are an account of other various events of that time.

“And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim. But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them. And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod. And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.”
–Isaiah 11:11-16

The eleventh chapter of Isaiah is not an account of EVERY thing which happens during that time Jesus Christ returns to earth, but it is a very concise snapshot of events which take place when Jesus returns.

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
