Giant Confusion

A comment was received recently concerning an article which was published nearly six-and-a-half years ago (Attacking Genesis: The New Prophets of Science Fiction Eschatology).

But though the article may have been over a half-dozen-years-old, the topic is one that is pertinent to the end times.

The comment in question was a mish-mash of the writer’s thoughts.

Rather than publish the whole comment, along with a detailed response, it was thought it may be of greater GENERAL interest to address one of the more egregious claims made. (The comment in question was actually addressed to another comment posted on the article: that first comment generally agreeing with the article’s main points.

FIRST, the article in question took a look at Genesis Chapter Six.

Chapter Six sets up the reasons for God sending the flood to cleanse the earth of man and man’s wickedness.  Chapter Six also introduces the reader to Noah and his family and provides the reasoning behind God saving those eight people–instead of drowning them like every other person who dwelt upon earth at the time.

Chapter Six ALSO includes a few side notes on the times in which Noah and his family lived.

“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”
–Genesis 6:1-8

In the MODERN VERSION of the Genesis account, fallen angels came to earth, mated with earth women and spawned a race of giants who threatened mankind and who will likely be making a comeback in the last days.

ALL is VERY unbiblical, but it does seem to hold promise for a good comic book yarn.

Also in the MODERN VERSION, Noah wasn’t so much righteous as he was the owner of “good old, uncorrupted DNA.”

The recently-received comment made the claim

“how are these things unbiblical? when it is clearly stated that there were giants from the sons of god mating with human women.”

Actually, there is NO such thing in the sixth chapter of Genesis.

Genesis Chapter Six has as its theme the EVIL THAT MEN DO, GOD’S RESPONSE TO THAT WICKEDNESS (the flood) and Noah being saved because of God’s grace, perhaps motivated by Noah’s faith, which made him an “heir to righteousness.”

“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”
–Hebrews 11:7

Back to the recently-received comment.

Genesis Chapter Six states that there were giants BEFORE there was any intermarriage between the daughters of men and the sons of God–whoever they might be. So, whatever giants were in the earth were NOT solely a result of any intermarriage: they were on earth PRIOR TO those couplings.

There is NO cause-and-effect between the giants and those who married the daughters of men (whoever they may have been).

In addition, it is CLEARLY stated in God’s Word–more than once–that the giants were MEN.

Not some half-human hybrids which resulted from the unlikely couplings of human women and fallen angels.

“And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.”
–2 Samuel 21:20

“And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.”
–1 Samuel 17:25, referring to Goliath

These are only two of the verses which refer to the giants as MEN.

As previously stated, the sixth chapter of Genesis was about the corrupting evil which ensnared man and God’s response to that overwhelming evil.

Apparently, this is NOT enough for many moderns.

In the modern retelling of Chapter Six, fallen angels mate with human women, have giant offspring and corrupt man’s DNA. This unholy mess of sci-fi storylines confuse and deceive those who do not study the Bible.

That’s one reason this topic is a VERY appropriate one for the end times.

These New Prophets of the Science Fiction Church sell a lot of DVDs and books: somebody is buying this stuff. And this writer has talked to numerous Christians [church folk] who are not really looking for a return of Jesus; they are looking for an invasion of nephilim, animal/alien/whatever-human hybrids, fallen angels, UFOs, ETs, aliens, robot uprisings or computer takeovers.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
