The Modern Relationship With Sin

sin

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.”
–Psalm 32:1-2

For the past two thousand years or so, man has had MOSTLY a self-serving, unBiblical relationship with sin.

Modern man even more so.

The modern relationship with sin seems to follow one of THREE paths.

1- The first path is walked by those rebellious in nature. They do NOT follow God’s Word–and they make no bones about it.  In fact, they may even attack or otherwise try to undermine the Word of God.  Apparently, they feel justified in attacking that which they do not follow.

This merry band of rogues–even with end times man at his MOST REBELLIOUS against God–make up about 10 to 20 percent of mankind–even though God’s Word declares that ALL who dwell upon the earth during the last days–with the exception of those whose names are written in the book of life–will worship Satan and Satan’s beast.

“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
–Revelation 13:4,8

Some who are on this first path may even deny that God exists.

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
–Psalm 14:1

There is not a whole lot one can do with this group. They feel they are getting by in this world just fine without having to concern themselves with any thoughts about whether they are sinning against God–who, at least for some, may or may not even exist.  Thank you very much.

It is extremely fortunate that, in His complete and total mercy, God Himself will save some of this group.

Because He can.

Perhaps God enjoys seeing the complete turnaround that takes place in a person once he has the complete story?

2- The second group is, by far, the largest of the three.  It consists of those who really do not understand what God’s Word has to say about sin (perhaps because they do not spend much time trying to understand); most preferring to follow along after what they have been taught in one of the churches.

This group has a vague understanding of sin, many believing that they will “somehow make it through” because they TRY TO BE “a good person.”

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Romans 3:10-12

And if anyone tries to point out that they have built their futures on a SHAKY, unBiblical foundation?

As one woman put it: “I try to do the best I can.”

Sounds like she is rehearsing what she will say on judgment day?

Some have a vague notion that if they do good, then that will “balance out” the bad?

The Good-o-Meter

Their idea of sin centers around BOOKKEEPING: that records are kept of their good deeds and their not-so-good works.  On judgment day, God will see if they have roughly as many good as they do bad deeds and make his judgments accordingly.

While there ARE records of one’s life kept, when judged by an all-holy God (the concept of “holy” being completely foreign to man), the bad will GREATLY outweigh the good.

Most get around this by comparing themselves to someone else who isn’t such a good person.

Still others prefer NOT to think too much about it at all.

Perhaps they believe that “everything will turn out fine in the end“?

Maybe they tell themselves that they cannot spare the time: that they are just “too busy” living their on-the-run, overstuffed lives?

“The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.”
–Psalm 10:4

Though many of this bunch of people believe they mean well, they do NOT look at sin Biblically. Many treat sin as if it was a commodity which can be exchanged for “good works.”

And it does not matter much that MOST of this band is deceived.

Although they have been warned to NOT be deceived, they feel their “busy lives” make it too difficult to pay much attention to their any of that.  Besides, who can say what is and what is not deception?

UNFORTUNATELY FOR THEM, the Bible is clear: the deceived end up in the same place as those who are deceiving them.

“But he [Jesus] answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”
–Matthew 15:13-14

3- The last group consists of those FEW who have been saved by God’s great and abiding mercy (grace). They KNOW that they will become entangled with sinful behavior: man was formed from the dust of the earth. So, even a man who is saved is little more than a sack of dirt with God’s Holy Spirit residing within him.

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
–2CORINTHIANS 4:7

This tiny group of believers KNOW that they will sin. But after their new, spiritual birth, they also know they must FIGHT against sin and those who would lead them into it.  That sin is something to be struggled against, NOT something to be embraced.

But they also KNOW that, having sinned, they must confess their sin to God, who will put it away in His great mercy. In fact, they KNOW that if not for God’s grace, they would be totally and completely LOST.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
–1JOHN 1:9

Because they are believers, they are not judged, but they ARE chastened (lovingly taught) by God Himself.

“For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
–Hebrews 12:6

If not for God’s great mercy, this small band of believers KNOW that they would be lost. The Bible says that their sin is not charged to their account by God once they are saved.

As King David wrote:

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.”
–Psalm 32:1-2

David was saved by God. David’s sins are well-known to those who study their Bible.

Murder, adultery, pride–and that is just a start to the list of David’s transgressions.

BUT God did not count David’s sin against him–as David’s seer (prophet) Nathan related to David In 1SAMUEL’s chapter 12.

“And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter. And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him. And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die: And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

“And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

“Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.”
–1SAMUEL 12:1-12

SO, there were consequences to David’s sin, but Nathan then points out that the LORD has extended to David His ultimate mercy.

“And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.”
–1SAMUEL 12:13

Nathan was relaying that David would not suffer the second death.

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.”
–Revelation 2:11

The second death is what happens to those who suffer the judgment of God at death.

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
–Revelation 21:8

MORE: Blessed Is the Man Whom the LORD Imputeth Not Iniquity – Part Two

And so, the modern relationship with sin closely mirrors the same mistakes made by man from the beginning.  Those who abide in the first two groups are on the wrong path: that path leads to destruction.

The third group contains those who realize man will sin and that man depends TOTALLY on the mercy of an all-merciful God for deliverance from the consequences of that sinful behavior.  This third group has ALWAYS been a SMALL group–because most men are focused on THIS present world, not the world to come.

And so, of the three groups of men, the third (very small) group is the only one which has a Biblical relationship with sin.

WHICH of the three groups is the reader in?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

The REAL Story of Modern Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
1THESSALONIANS 5:18

One day a year, Americans gather together with friends, family or business associates–supposedly to meet and give thanks for the good things and abundance which have overtaken them during the REST of the year.

But like so many celebrations, Thanksgiving Day became known for so many OTHER things.

* Well-known parades put together by various enterprises to promote this or that

* Football games.

* Getting a head start on Christmas season shopping.

* Extended family gatherings involving travel, both from near and far.

* And, that most famous of Thanksgiving traditions: a BIG meal, featuring a number of dishes which have come to be associated with a national day of giving thanks.

Any actual giving of thanks?

That appears to be restricted to a few sanctioned events: the minute or so it required to say “grace” before the eating of the traditional Thanksgiving meal OR whenever the “story of Thanksgiving” is told.

And so, a holiday which supposedly was dedicated to the giving of thanks has become a holiday known for so many OTHER activities.

“I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.”
–Psalm 116:17

IF the truth be told, EVERY day should be a day of giving thanks–two or three or MORE times a day.

“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.”
–Daniel 6:10

Each person has MUCH to be thankful for.

EVEN the least of men and those of modest circumstance.

The REAL story of Thanksgiving Day in the USA was that there was ONE day set aside for men to give thanks.

Actually, EVERY day should be a day of giving thanks for the many benefits bestowed upon each man by his Creator.

The REAL story of Thanksgiving Day in the USA was that a day supposedly DEDICATED to the giving of thanks became a day devoted to so many OTHER things.

The REAL story of modern Thanksgiving Day in the USA has only been highlighted FOR SOME when a holiday dedicated to greed, selfishness and covetousness named Black Friday began on Thanksgiving Day.

Even those only partially paying attention could see that Black Friday was a vile, dog-eat-dog day: news organizations only too happy to promote fistfights over $70 TV sets and Buy-one-get-one-free-while-they-last toaster ovens.

BUT, such stories DO change occasionally.

Each reader COULD alter his or her daily routine to include a time–even a few moments–set aside for giving thanks.

Each reader COULD choose to focus on giving thanks during Thanksgiving Day–instead of the various traditional distractions.

Each reader COULD choose to spend a few moments time focusing on his many reasons to give thanks.

Each reader could CHANGE his individual story of thanksgiving.

How many will do so?

“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.”
1TIMOTHY 1:12-13

IS the reader thankful for his MANY blessings?

OR, is the reader concerned about the many things of this world which he DOESN’T possess?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Operating From Incomplete Information

incomplete

“And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
–Luke 18:27

Given that those who imagine themselves to be the Masters of the Universe, who claim to value KNOWLEDGE above almost everything else (other than self-interest), it is sometimes speculated why these shadowy figures do NOT pursue the source of ALL KNOWLEDGE: the omniscient (all-knowing) God Almighty Himself.

After all, it would take someone CONSUMED with hubris to believe he had all knowledge necessary to carry out his grandiose end times designs WITHOUT tapping into the ultimate source of knowledge about EVERYTHING.

A few days ago, it was written in these pages

It is extremely fortunate that, in His complete and total mercy, God Himself will save some of this group.

Because He can.

Perhaps God enjoys seeing the complete turnaround that takes place in a person once he has the complete story?
The Modern Relationship with Sin, End Times Prophecy Headlines: November 23, 2020

After spending a few days thinking and discussing this assertion, a few other thoughts–which fall under the heading of “speculation” were determined.

1- Perhaps God, instead of enjoying “the complete turnaround in a person once he has the complete story,” enjoys the utter and eternal GRATITUDE of one who NOW understands he was headed for complete and total perdition EXCEPT for God’s mercy and grace.

2- Perhaps God, enjoys the stunned understanding of one who NOW realizes that he did NOTHING to deserve or otherwise earn this mercy.

3- Perhaps God, because He loves His entire creation–even those who hate Him–enjoys saving that utterly wretched piece of creation from destruction.  Because He can.

And that is a great flaw of the deceived: they believe they KNOW things that just aren’t so.

“What gets us into trouble is not what we don’t know. It’s what we know for sure that just ain’t so.”
–attributed to Mark Twain and others

And that is perhaps the GREATEST flaw of the MOST-DECEIVED: they believe they have knowledge that other men do not possess, but what they DO have is INCOMPLETE KNOWLEDGE, which proves to be the undoing of the great majority of such men.

Once these men become aware of this incomplete information–which they do NOT possess at present–their ENTIRE outlook is likely to change.

A lot of ‘maybe’s.’

A lot of ‘perhaps’s.’

A LOT of speculation.

As the reader was earlier warned.

Here is something that is NOT based on speculation: believers should pray that such men–deceived by their belief that they possess secret, hidden knowledge–develop a relationship with the REAL, truthful knowledge of their Creator BEFORE it is too late.

“Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding”
–Daniel 2:19-21

DOES the reader believe there is much that man will not learn until Jesus Christ returns?

WHY or WHY NOT?

Where Should One Turn In Times of Trouble?

Bible

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
–Philippians 4:6-7

In times of distress and uncertainty, modern man can turn to MANY different places where he imagines he may find relief.

Some moderns look to the GOVERNMENT to deliver them during times of trouble–forgetting how often it is that government has CAUSED the trouble from which they seek deliverance.

Other moderns turn to the MEDIA for instructions on what to do during times of great anxiety and anxiousness–forgetting how often that the media IS A SOURCE of a great deal of modern stress and anxiety.

Many look to MEDICINE or SCIENCE to devise solutions to whatever thorny problems seem to be burdening mankind–forgetting how often that medicine or science has informed them of ‘thorny problems’ of which they were previously unaware.

Still others believe that answers to problems which plague man might be found by consulting those who work in education; either in the colleges and universities or those who labor below that level.

It is fairly difficult to forget the antics of the academics, even for those who do NOT follow such announcements closely.

And finally, there is a SMALL group who will look to He who created ALL: God.

While others are depending on changes in the monetary policy, government programs or the stock market for deliverance, this SMALL group of men will call out to their God for deliverance.

And their God WILL provide deliverance.

“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”
–Psalm 34:17

While others are waiting for what little help man can provide in REAL times of trouble, those who have put their faith in God demonstrate that their faith is well-placed.

Though others will not EVER read about such walkers-of-faith in Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media).

Believers KNOW God will take care of them during times of duress. Perhaps that is why Christians do not do a lot of complaining when they face challenges during times of plenty: such faith needs to be tried and, through such trying, increased.

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”
–James 1:2-3

God gives believers MANY reassurances in His Word that He WILL provide and protect them in times of trouble.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
–Isaiah 41:10

Better still, the believer has concrete PROOF that God delivers on His many promises made in His Word.

Still, it is very good that God gives His MANY reassurances in His Word.  God understands that much of the time, man is a frightened creature who NEEDS those reassurances.

“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.  And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”
–Psalm 9:9-10

WHEN hard times come–and such times are a certainty–to whom OR to where will the reader look for relief?
