In Times of Trouble, Who Doesn’t Want a Strong Tower For Safety?

strong tower

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
–Proverbs 18:10

Many are the promises contained in the Word of God, of PROTECTION for those who put their trust in the LORD.

Several of these promises liken the LORD’s protection to a “strong tower.

“For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”
–Psalm 61:3

“I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
Psalm 91:2

“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
–Psalm 18:2

During the utter chaos and destruction of the last days, ANY place of refuge–a strong tower, if you will–will be in short supply AND in great demand.

THEREFORE, those who trust in the LORD have a place of refuge which He alone can offer.

The refuge may offer a respite from calamity for a few days, a few months or a few minutes: it makes little difference to one who is trying to catch his breath from all of the destruction and judgment which will be going on at the time.

Who doesn’t need a strong tower to run into during times of trouble?

Just one more benefit to being one of the FEW who trust God and His Son, Jesus Christ, during the last days.

HOWEVER, it should be pointed out that it matters not how strong the tower may be IF one chooses NOT to run to it in times of trouble.

“O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.”
–Jeremiah 16:19

DOES the reader understand how it is that the LORD is called a “strong tower“?

DOES the reader believe this wholeheartedly?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

The World’s Idea of Safety and Protection

gun

Hearing a song from the past recently made one think about what the world values most.

In the case of the song: what the world values most TO PROTECT ITSELF WHEN IN DANGER.

The song was “Jesus or a Gun,” which was released over 20 years ago. In it, the singer (who is obviously facing dangerous times) is asking (‘Who’s my saving one?’): which will offer him more protection: Jesus or a gun?

[As a side note, over 20 years after the song (which did quite well) came out, the Memory Hole Media wants the uninformed to believe that when the song was popular, the word “gun” was not spoken and was edited out of the song.  As anyone who listened to song at the time (which was played on the radio HUNDREDS, if not THOUSAND of times) can attest, this is new information.  NEVER ONCE had many listeners EVER heard the song played on the radio (or in concert) with  “gun”  edited out.  However, in 2020, 20+ years after the fact, this is the urban legend which the memory hole folks would have the uninformed believe.  Apparently, the Memory Hole folks would have the uninformed believe that in 1999, the country had such fine-tuned sensibilities about such things that Americans could only stomach the song IF it was titled “Jesus or a…”  This is a complete fiction.]

So, the question the song asks: “Who is it better to depend on: Jesus or a gun?”

Of course, to the world–which has no experience with Jesus or His Father–this is a rhetorical question.

Those who are firmly focused on THIS life in THIS world believe it would be silly to turn down a gun if offered for one’s protection. (Even the strictest gun control advocates are physically protected by police, who carry guns.)

However, the world is not only deceived, it operates from incomplete information.

Because almost the whole world is lost, the world has no contact with supernatural sources of information (except for those who access familiar spirits–which are anxious to deceive those who access them).  I

F the world had access to such information (which, being lost, they are denied), their views on this world, God, Jesus and a host of other topics would DRASTICALLY change.

[Because popular music is an almost-perfect propaganda delivery system (modern music being repeated constantly, day after day: which is the most important point in ANY propaganda; how often it is repeated), it’s hard to tally how many–who listene to its untold number of repetitions–were affected by the thoughts in “Jesus or a Gun.”]

The song offers the world’s idea of safety and protection: a gun.

This is confirmed by how many survivalists put their faith in guns to deliver them from any unforeseen circumstances–including, it would seem, the calamities of the last days.

So, the song ultimately treats the question as rhetorical, with the singer claiming “It’s safe to say I don’t desire
Everything you push inside my head And I’ll reject it until I’m dead.”)

Apparently, he only wants the security offered by cold steel and bullets.  In his mind, ANY suggestion that Jesus might offer as much or more protection is just silly and not worthy of consideration (“I’ll reject it until I’m dead.”).

(However, one gets the feeling that the singer would reject Jesus REGARDLESS of the level of protection He afforded.)

It would prove interesting to ask ALL who take such a view–which is practically EVERYONE who dwells on the earth–one question.

“How many are documented dying with Jesus on their lips compared to how many are documented to have died with a gun in their hands?”

Seems like a simple choice.

SOME folks just feel better if there is a gun around somewhere they can access if needed.

OTHER folks get nervous around guns.

WHICH is the reader?

WHO does the reader trust more to deliver in times of disasters?

WHERE does the reader place his trust for a safe future: Jesus or a gun?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

An Interesting Observation

Mao
Chairman Mao

One of the more interesting observations of the 20th Century was made by the (now-deceased) former Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party and de facto ruler of  Communist China, Mao Zedong (previously known as Mao Tse Tung).

What was so interesting about Mao’s observation?

First, the observation itself.

“Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”

This boils down to “IF you want to call the shots, you better have the bigger army.”

There are elements of the popular culture–particularly Jim Jones (of Jonestown massacre infamy) which have CHANGED Mao’s words to something else.

Mao Tse Tung SaidChange must come from the barrel of a gun.

Mao DID NOT say this.

Mao Zedong didn’t say that, of course. He said “枪杆子里面出政权” (qiānggǎnzi lǐmiàn chū zhèngquán) — Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun — during his speech “Problems on War and Strategy” at a plenary session on November 6, 1938. “Whoever wants to seize and retain state power must have a strong army,” he said — a quote cited by those who oppose gun control (in contemporary America, mostly).
[…]
“Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun,” Mao actually said, and in the very next breath: “Our principle is that the Party commands the gun, and the gun must never be allowed to command the Party.”

China currently has some of the world’s strictest gun control laws.
Friday Song: Mao Zedong said ‘Change must come through the barrel of a gun’

Next, a few observations on Mao and his actual observation.

1- Though some maintain that Mao never admitted to being an atheist, it appears that he was, having established Communist China OFFICIALLY as an atheist nation.

Mao is also listed by many prominent atheists as one of their group.

Richard Dawkins has stated that Stalin’s atrocities were influenced not by atheism, but by dogmatic Marxism[55] and concludes that while Stalin and Mao happened to be atheists, they did not do their deeds “in the name of atheism.”

THEREFORE, it is easy to see why Mao–as an atheist focused on THIS world and THIS world alone–would be so concerned with how to gain and hold on to POLITICAL POWER.

2- The fact that Mao was an atheist does not make his original observation correct–or incorrect.

But it does make his observation sound more self-serving.

Mao was not making his observation as a disinterested third party.  No, Mao was making his observation being a KEEN student of the politics of CONTROL–especially the control of large populations (which China has).

3- God’s Word is clear on its view of atheists: they are called “fools.”

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
–Psalm 14:1

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. “
–Psalm 53:1

As has been noted here before, God’s Word refers to evil and wicked men who care a GREAT DEAL about money, wealth and the things of the world, as “foolish.”

POLITICAL POWER is a thing of the world–particularly for those who CRAVE such power.

4- The Bible is also clear about the things of the world, which includes EARTHLY kingdoms–and what good is political power if not to secure an earthly kingdom?

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
–1JOHN 2:15-17

“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away”
–1PETER 1:24

NONE of this makes the Chairman’s observation any less interesting. BUT, it may have added, as they say, a little context.

One final note: Solomon–the wisest man ever to live–might have had an interesting observation of his own regarding the observation of Chairman Mao.

“Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.”
–Ecclesiastes 1:2

Is the reader concerned with political power–ANY power which is derived from political sources?

OR, is the reader more concerned about the furthering God’s purposes until Jesus returns?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
