“He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.”
–Luke 19:12-13
Jesus instructed his servants to “occupy” until he returned.
A great many in the churches teach that “occupy” means to “stay busy.” But does it?
Somehow, Jesus does not seem to be a proponent of BUSY WORK.
So, what does “occupy” mean?
…Jesus commands his disciples to improve their talents; to make the most of them; to increase their capability of doing good, and to do it until he comes to call us hence, by death, to meet him.
—Albert Barnes NT Commentary
THEREFORE: “Occupy” means to make productive use of our time and talents for the kingdom of heaven.
This is in DIRECT CONTRADICTION to the world’s collection of time-wasting distractions we call “entertainment.”
Entertainment is neither productive OR useful.
Entertainment not only just KILLS TIME: it prevents one from using that time to OCCUPY.
But that doesn’t mean that entertainment can’t occasionally make a good observation.
This was all brought to mind by the lyrics of an old song.
“When I think about all of the time I’ve wasted having good times.”
The world is diametrically opposed to Jesus and His Father.
Jesus instructs his servants to “occupy;” to make productive use of their time and talents until He returns.
The world offers entertainment: the pursuit of “good times“–which never seem to materialize.
And so the question becomes:
“At which is the reader spending more time: occupying OR pursuing a good time?”
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
