Why Doesn’t God Act Now?

foot of God?

Not long ago, a nonbeliever asked a very good question.

“Why doesn’t God do his thing NOW?  What’s He waiting for?  Why all the buildup?  What’s the use of any of that?”

In a way, this IS true: after all, God DOES know who will remain an unrepentant sinner.

This echoed someone else (also a nonbeliever) who asked the question about ten years ago;

“Do you think God is still smiting people?”

2. To strike down or kill with godly force.

3. To injure with divine power.

Back to the original questions of not long ago (“Why doesn’t God do his thing NOW?  What’s He waiting for?  Why all the buildup?  What’s the use of any of that?”)

At the time, the non-believer was given a few answers from God’s Word.

1- Man must wait on God.

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
–Psalm 27:14

Man must wait on God–for the good AND for the bad.

Most associate waiting on the LORD with waiting for something good, such as provenance or deliverance. But man must also wait on those things declared in God’s Word–which is TRUE.

BELIEVERS know that God’s Word is true and that ALL that is written will come to pass.

That is one lesson which end times nonbelievers will learn in many painful ways.

2- God experiences time much differently than man.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
–2PETER 3:8-9

God waits because He HOPES that man will repent and will avoid destruction and perdition.

However, God KNOWS–since He inhabits EVERY point in time, past present and future–which men will turn toward Him and who will be defiant until the bitter end.

At any rate, what seems like a LONG TIME to man is only a SHORT TIME to God.

So, God most likely does NOT believe He is “waiting around.”

3- Man’s schedule is not God’s schedule

This is much like item #2: but God does all things at JUST THE RIGHT TIME.

That time may not be the best time for man.

God declared long, long ago when end times events would happen–and that is the way which end times events will happen.

Not a day sooner.

Not a day later.

4- Who can question ANYTHING of God’s doing–particularly God’s TIMING?

Who can question God?

“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
–Isaiah 55:6-9

God will act in His own good time–when it seems best to Him to act.

And that is a primary reason the reader is not being smitten heavily at the present time.

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
