“The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.”
–Proverbs 20:29
“The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.”
–Proverbs 16:31
A few random thoughts on growing older–a process which begins at one’s birth and continues until one leaves this body of dust and dirt behind.
1- A man may be certain he is growing older when most of the people he talks about are no longer with us.
1- It is VERY popular to assert that we live in a youth-based culture. This may be because the GREAT MAJORITY of advertising is aimed at younger members of society. (For YEARS, the most sought-after demographic for advertisers was the 18-34-year-old age group.)
3- One popular past time of the elderly is to complain of the youth: their shameful behaviors; their lack of couth; their unplanned, chaotic approach to serious matter. But who taught the youth? The great majority of the complaints center around learned behaviors. Just exactly WHO taught the youth?

4- One of the ways the world explains away its ever-growing wickedness is the dismissing of the observations of the old about how much worse the world has become during their lifetimes with the claim that ALL those who grow older OF EVERY GENERATION have had those same complaints.
HOWEVER, this does not make the complaints of the elders of no consequence.
In fact, it actually VALIDATES those charges.
5- The world has a number of thoughts on growing older–many of them amusing.
“Just ’cause there’s snow on the roof doesn’t mean there’s not a fire inside.”
—Bonnie Hunt
“I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity.”
—Albert Einstein
“Never become an adult! They’re stressed-out, miserable creatures.”
— Stewart Stafford
“Growing older is certain; growing wiser is harder and optional.”
—Debasish Mridha
“To me, growing old is great. It’s the very best thing – considering the alternative.”
—Michael Caine
“I wouldn’t be young again even if it were possible, but I am not going to pretend that growing old is all sweetness and light.”
—Ruth Rendell
“If you are pining for youth I think it produces a stereotypical old man because you only live in memory, you live in a place that doesn’t exist. Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.”
—David Bowie

6- Contemplation and pondering are not given much value when one is younger. These activities gain MUCH value when one grows older. Perhaps this is because one can contemplate, ponder and otherwise consider the world while comfortably seated?
7- Many have remarked on the fact that one sign of growing older is the appearance of hair where none previously grew.
8- It appears that the most miserable folks are those who try to keep the same habits and activities they practiced when they were younger. BUT they are no longer young and those activities often require the suppleness and focus of youth in order to be worthwhile.

9- Growing older is something which most often occurs in stable societies, where food and water are available. Nations at war often have less older people–often have less people, period.
10- As one grows older, one begins checking the newspaper obituary page–something that was almost NEVER done when one was younger. Perhaps this is because the chances of knowing someone who made the obituaries increases as one grows older?

There are a great many more observations which could be made about growing older. And those will be set forth at some future time.
God willing.
DOES the reader have any thoughts on growing older?
DO any of those thoughts include the life to come?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
