“But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.”
–Psalm 86:15
God’s Word declares that God is LONGSUFFERING.
Although most definitions of LONGSUFFERING focus on “patient,” the word means a little more than that.
patiently enduring lasting offense or hardship
So, not only is God PATIENT, He is PATIENTLY ENDURING the HARDSHIP of waiting for the occasional man (whom He created) to come to the knowledge of God, repent and be eternally saved.
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
–2PETER 3:9
In MOST cases–though God is longsuffering and patiently waits on deceived man to repent–man rejects God and goes his own way. But then God knew this FROM THE BEGINNING, given man’s foibles, and continues waiting patiently for the odd soul who does respond.
“But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth”
–2THESSALONIANS 2:13
It is all part of God’s plan to secure for Himself a people who desire to worship Him as their God.
“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
–Revelation 21:3
Perhaps this is one BIG reason all heaven celebrates when the (VERY) ocasional man DOES repent and joins the kingdom of heaven?
“Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.”
–Luke 15:10
God is longsuffering because God knows that for His plan to ultimately succeed, He must be.
IF God is EVER to secure a people who SINCERELY desire to worship Him as God, He must not only be PATIENT–He must be longsuffering.
It is a good thing for man that God is.
DOES the reader question the existence of God because God does not involve Himself IN A WAY WHICH IS EVIDENT TO THE DECEIVED in the reader’s daily life?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
