Without God’s Help and MERCY, There are NO Souls Won

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”
–Proverbs 11:30

IF the reader is a member of one of the churches, he has, at one time or another no doubt, been exhorted to “be a soulwinner!”

Or some very similar sentiment.

And make no doubt: the believer is to PREACH the gospel of Jesus Christ (or the ‘kingdom’ of heaven) to every living soul he with which he comes in contact.

“And he [Jesus] said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
–Mark 16:15

BUT, when the believer preaches the gospel, he is tapping into the ‘power of God.’

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

Which should be enough to keep even most haughty humble.

In other words, it is NOT a man’s persuasive words; OR

A man’s gentle attitude; OR

A man’s cleverness; OR

A man’s clean smell; OR

A man’s example which leads to a soul being won for the kingdom of heaven.

Now, all of those things MAY make the one preaching the gospel a bit easier with which to associate.

BUT, without God assistance–and MERCY–it is all just so much hand jive.

The reader should NEVER forget:

THERE ARE NO SOULS WON WITHOUT THE GREAT ASSISTANCE OF A MERCIFUL GOD…

…and it has NOTHING to do with the skill or cleverness of man himself.

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Choices

choosing

“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live”
–Deuteronomy 30:19

EVERYONE makes choices.

And almost ALL choices have consequences. That is the whole idea behind making a choice: what the one choosing is REALLY doing is deciding which consequences he would rather face AFTER he makes his choice.

And many choices spring from earlier choices made.  In the whole scheme of things, a small misstep made YEARS earlier may snowball into a host of terrible consequences today.  Many a person who smokes has claimed, “If I had known then what I was getting into, I would have NEVER started smoking!  And now, I can’t quit!  I’ve tried, but I can’t: it’s stronger than me!”

Even small, seemingly non-consequential choices have consequences–though they may be so small as to escape notice initially.

Such as choosing what clothes to wear to work.

BUT, even such a small choice such as which clothes to wear to work have consequences.

Maybe that dress DOES make you appear to have put on some weight?

Everyone makes choices: making choices seems to be part of the human condition.

“Helping others to make choices” ALSO seems to be a part of being human. It is the VERY RARE individual who, seeing someone trying to decide between two or more choices, doesn’t feel an urge to help that person–whether the one desiring to help can actually  provide any REAL assistance or not.

“Leave me alone!”

“But I just want to help!  I don’t want to see you suffer because you made a wrong decision like me!”

One particular which many moderns fail to take into consideration is that God has made declarations in his Word–and that He has also declared that there will be consequences to those who disregard what he has declared for His creation.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
–Romans 6:23

And so it was that during a discussion which took place during the past six months, Person A, seeing Person B struggling to make a decision, offered some assistance.

Which was promptly refused with the declaration, “It might not be right, but I want to do this on my own.  It’s my choice and it’s what I choose to believe!”

Subsequent events proved that what the person believed was “not right.”

Subsequent events ALSO proved the observation that a person may suffer from decisions made much earlier–perhaps even MONTHS or YEARS before the consequences are fully suffered.

In addition, subsequent events ALSO highlighted that a person makes a CHOICE to accept assistance OR NOT when making a decision.

And choices have consequences–even if those consequences are not fully recognized initially.

One choice a person makes is whether to follow the Word of God–or whether to disregard God’s Word and to live as he best sees fit.  And–like most other choices in life–this choice has consequences.

AND, those consequences may not become apparent for YEARS–although the world works ceaselessly to convince the reader that this VERY important choice is really no choice at all.

HAS the reader ever bee told he has TOO MANY choices?

HAS the reader ever heard someone claim “You would be happier if you had less decisions to make.”?

WHAT does the reader think about ‘making choices’?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Biblical Advice About Wise Men

wise man

God’s Word has a LOT to say about who man should consider “wise.”

The Bible also has much to say about wisdom and the wise, in general.

But there is one bit of advice that God’s Word considers so important that it repeats it–more than once!–so the reader will be sure to remember.

And that advice basically is “Wise men: the more the merrier.”

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”
–Proverbs 11:14

“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”
–Proverbs 15:22

“For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.”
–Proverbs 24:6

EVEN IF the reader does not believe in the truth of God’s Word, it is hard to argue with the wisdom of it.

Something for the reader to remember the next time someone–ANYONE!–advocates hearing LESS counsel, not MORE.

[NOTE: Again, the Bible offers much advice about wisdom and wise men–much of it contrary to popular belief nowadays. This would make a good article and so, the reader should look for it in the near future. God willing.]

HAS the reader ever been involved in a circumstance where someone insisted that there was “too much talking” and suggested listening to what FEWER men had to say?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

NOT SORRY: The Non-Apology Apology

not sorry

Perhaps the reader has been the recipient of a fairly modern ruse: the non-apology apology?

In the non-apology apology, the person who is at fault SOUNDS like he is making an apology and expressing remorse for his behavior.

BUT, he isn’t.

In the non-apology apology, the person at fault is NOT SORRY for his behavior–and will likely repeat it, given the time and the circumstance.

In the non-apology apology, the person at fault ‘apologizes’ for the actions of the one who is the recipient of the ‘apology’–NOT his own actions.

It goes something like this.

“I’m sorry you are upset.”

“I’m really sorry you cried.”

“I feel bad about the whole thing. I’m sorry you got angry.”

In the non-apology apology, the person who is ‘apologizing’ expresses NO remorse for his own actions.

EXAMPLE:

During a disagreement in a restaurant parking lot several years ago, a man and his wife were arguing with another man they claimed opened his door and put a dent in the door of their car.

The man and his wife called the police. When the policeman arrived, he seemed to be more interested in putting the matter to rest and played the peacekeeper.

He told the man and his wife, “It’s hard to really know what really happened. IF he apologizes to you, will you let it go?”

The couple looked at each other and nodded.

The policeman then went to the other man and told him, “They are willing to drop the whole thing IF you apologize. Will you apologize?”

The man chuckled and said, “Sure!

So the policeman led the man over to the couple and the man said, “I’m REALLY sorry…sorry about the disagreement and sorry you got upset.”

This seemed to satisfy the man and his wife BUT the other man had not expressed ANY remorse for his actions: he only expressed regret that he had had a disagreement with the man and his wife and was only sorry THEY got upset.

The non-apology apology: just another deception of modern life.
