The Wicked Can–And DO–Repent

change

“But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.”
–Ezekiel 18:21

There is a tendency to view the workers of iniquity as one vast, monolithic tide of sinners.

And while that is almost always true, it is NOT the whole truth according to God’s Word.

God’s Word relates that ALL HEAVEN celebrates when ONE sinner changes his path and becomes a member of the kingdom of heaven.

“I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”
–Luke 15:7

Which means that at least OCCASIONALLY, there is a sinner who changes the path to perdition he previously walked.

There are not only accounts in God’s Word of the wicked man who becomes a believer, there are numerous calls BY GOD for the wicked to repent (change their ways) and LIVE!–as well as revelations that God gets NO pleasure from the death of a sinner (Sinners, after all, being a part of God’s creation.).

“Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.”
–Ezekiel 18:30-32

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
–2PETER 3:9

“But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.”
–Ezekiel 33:19

“Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.”
–Ezekiel 18:27

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
–1TIMOTHY 2:3-4

So–though some days it may appear that ALL of the workers of iniquity’s allegiances are set in stone and to where their particular flavor of deception ultimately lead them–there are a FEW of Satan’s followers who turn from their wicked ways and live.

There’s just not very many of them.

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
–Matthew 7:13-14

So it is POSSIBLE for the wicked man to turn from the path he is on (repent) and leave behind his wickedness.

These are the folks who most desperately need prayers that they will turn in time, as they are CAPABLE of repentance, IF ONLY they are OF THE MIND WHICH IS LIKELY to do it.

As Jesus told Paul:

“Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”

If ANYONE needs the prayers of the believer, it might be the worker of iniquity.

And who knows if the believer–who prays for the salvation of the evil man–may someday cross paths with that former lost soul?

DOES the reader believe a WICKED MAN can change his direction?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
