A Few Points of Emphasis About the Gathering Together

gathering together

About a week ago, it was proposed that this writer did NOT believe in the ‘gathering together’–what the world has called “The Rapture“–because he did NOT believe in one of the popular stories of that happening.

Specifically, because he does NOT believe in the PRE-TRIBULATION RAPTURE fables, his belief in what the Bible calls the ‘gathering together’ was called into question.

So, here are a few points of emphasis about that event.

1- TIMING

One either believes God’s Word–or one does not.

IF one believes God’s Word to be true, there are a NUMBER of passages which clearly describe when the gathering together takes place–especially the description in 2THESSALONIANS 2.

“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition”
–2THESSALONIANS 2:1-3

Paul speaks of the gathering together happening “by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Paul clearly refers to these events (the return of Jesus and the gathering together) happening ON THE SAME DAY. [“…for that day shall not come…”]

And there is NO Third or Fourth or Fifth Coming of Jesus.

Only the Second Coming, when Jesus returns to earth to set all right.

The apostle John couldn’t be much clearer when he wrote what he witnessed in Revelation.

“And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.”
–Revelation 7:13-15

“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”
–Revelation 20:4

Living and reigning with Christ for a thousand years” seems an awfully strange way to treat those whom the world calls “Left Behind.”

2- GOD’S WRATH

One additional point about which there seems to be confusion.  What happens to the believers on earth during the last days is the result of SATAN’s WRATH, not God’s.

As God’s Wrath is reserved SOLELY for the wicked, the follower of Jesus cannot be the recipient of God’s Wrath.

“God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. “

IF believers were the enemies of God, they would feel God’s wrath.

But they are NOT.

IF THAT WAS TRUE: again, living and reigning with Jesus is a strange way to treat the enemies of God.

3- THE DEAD IN CHRIST RISE FIRST

“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
–2THESSALONIANS 4:15-17

2THESSALONIANS clearly says that the gathering together takes place IMMEDIATELY AFTER “…the dead in Christ shall rise…”

Gee, if only it could be determined when the dead rise in Christ…

IF one consults John 6, Jesus Himself declares when He will raise the dead–and he states this FOUR separate times!

“And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.”
–John 6:39

“And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
–John 6:40

“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
–John 6:44

“Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
–John 6:54

4- THE LAST TRUMP

God’s Word declares that Jesus will return for His followers AT THE LAST TRUMP.

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
–1CORINTHIANS 15:52

The trump is mentioned again in 1st Thessalonians.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
–1THESSALONIANS 4:16-17

The last trumpet is sounded on the day Jesus returns to earth.

“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.”
–Revelation 11:15

5- THERE IS MOST DEFINITELY A GATHERING TOGETHER OF THE SAINTS

The gathering together does NOT happen prior to Jesus coming to earth.

Jesus does not return two or three times–ONLY ONCE.

At the end.

At the last trump.

At Armagedddon.

And the gathering together takes place AT THAT TIME.

DOES the reader ever think about the ‘gathering together’?

WHAT does the reader think about that event?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
