“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
–2PETER 3:3-4
One of the signs of the approach of the return of Jesus Christ to earth is the proliferation of mockers, scoffers and false prophets.
HOWEVER, not ALL mockers and scoffers operate the same way. Not all false teachers are so easy to spot. Not all false prophets carry signs proclaiming their untrustworthiness.
Many of the false ones prosper by pretending to be someone that they are not.
Perhaps a wise teacher.
Maybe a learned man from one of the great universities or other revered hall of learning.
Possibly they wear the mask of a well-known writer of heavily-promoted, well-known stories?
Is the reader assured that he knows all of the ways mockers and scoffers work?
The PRIMARY purpose of those who scoff is to cast DOUBT upon what they are mocking.
One of the most common methods of casting doubt is to engage in speculation about a person, place or thing.
For the follower of Jesus Christ, there is little need or reason to speculate: God’s Word provides ALL of the answers one needs in order to successfully live one’s life–either 2000 years ago or today.
And, if God’s Word is silent on a particular topic, the believer KNOWS there is reason for that silence, as well as KNOWING that answers can be gleaned from silence too.
So, IF one wants to be WELL-INFORMED about ANY topic concerning the last days, one should consult the Bible.
Rather than trust to the speculation of man, the reader should depend on the surety of the Word of God.
IN FACT, as the climax of human history (the return of Jesus Christ) draws near, the time for speculation about its events grows LESS.
Which means that as that time approaches–and it approaches NOW–one should trust less to the words of “learned men” and more on the Word of God. THIS is bad news for a largely-unbelieving world which does NOT trust in the believability of God’s Word. So many trust in the words of the professor, the scientist or the doctor INSTEAD of God’s Word. ALL who misplace their faith will pay a heavy price at the end.
AGAIN: as the end grows nearer, the time for speculation grows less.
“How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.”
–Jude 1:18
DOES the reader enjoy reading what are sometimes called “WHAT IF“s?
IS this true about the end times?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
