There are few points on which both God’s Word and the lost, fallen world agree.
BUT, one point on which nearly ALL agree is the coming time of darkness which will descend upon the earth.
God’s Word declares that this darkness falls on the “kingdom of the beast,” but since the beast is the ruler of the end times kingdom which has swallowed the ENTIRE earth, the darkness is, in reality, falling upon the whole world.
“And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”
–Revelation 16:10-11
What causes this great darkness?
God’s Word provides a clue earlier in Revelation 9.
“And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.”
–Revelation 9:1-2
One chapter earlier, in Revelation 8, one additional clue is provided which helps explain this great coming darkness.
“And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.”
–Revelation 8:12
Revelation 16 also mentions ‘pains” while referring to the darkness–and there are also earlier explanations given for these pains.
In Revelation 9 once more, to be exact.
“And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. “
–Revelation 9:1-6
The things which issue from the bottomless pit are NOT insects.
Because locusts which are insects have NO king.
“The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands”
–Proverbs 30:27
So what is causing man so much misery?
IF the reader study the Bible, he will easily find out what beings are consigned to the bottomless pit.
So, to sum up what God’s Word says about the coming darkness: The darkness will cover the entire earth–which constitutes the end times last kingdom–for an UNSPECIFIED length of time AND pain will be associated with the darkness. Even though men will be tormented by GREAT pain and sores, man will NOT repent; will NOT change his wicked behaviors; will instead curse and blaspheme God.
Sad–but all too true.
NOW, what does the world have to say about this time of darkness?
The Catholic Church–which is part of Satan’s worldwide network of apostate and counterfeit churches–has AT LEAST A PORTION of its members who believe that this great darkness will cover the earth for three days and three nights. In fact, this belief is called “Three Days of Darkness.”
Like MOST believable fables, Three Days of Darkness borrows enough from the Bible to give it an air of authenticity, while mixing in a heaping helping of “Catholic mystics” (demon-possessed), “blessed” artifacts and charms and other speculative sources.
Blessed Anna Maria Taigi (1769–1837) is the most known seer of the Three Days of Darkness and describes the event in this way:
There shall come over the whole earth an intense darkness lasting three days and three nights. Nothing can be seen, and the air will be laden with pestilence which will claim mainly, but not only, the enemies of religion. It will be impossible to use any man-made lighting during this darkness, except blessed candles. He, who out of curiosity, opens his window to look out, or leaves his home, will fall dead on the spot. During these three days, people should remain in their homes, pray the Rosary and beg God for mercy. All the enemies of the Church, whether known or unknown, will perish over the whole earth during that universal darkness, with the exception of a few whom God will soon convert. The air shall be infected by demons who will appear under all sorts of hideous forms.
Because the Three Days of Darkness tale involves having various kinds of approved candles, religious supply houses have used it to hawk goods.
Preparing for the 3 Days of Darkness
Various false prophets have spoken of OTHER end times days of darkness as well.
In 1875 the Holy Spirit said to Marie-Julie [Jahenny, France]: “There will be two days of horrible darkness, distinct from those advertised (I.e, different from the 3 days). The sky will be purple and red, so low that the clump of tall trees will be as lost. These two days will warn you, as an authentic proof of His goodness, as proof of descent from the wrath of God on earth. You will not be free from the darkness. So far, no soul has mentioned it, because those are not many who were made aware. To resist all these signs, holy water is a strength and consolation, and the candle, but with wax. All those that are not of this paste will not help.”
Various other occult organizations having teachings about darkness growing in the future—but then, those groups are usually all about darkness, in general.

A few months ago, there was even a story circulating on the Internet that NASA was involved in a warning about days of darkness. Of course, NASA is one of the principle pillars of Satan’s deceptions, but its “warning” was later determined to be a hoax.

Many of these groups offer various trinkets, charms, amulets or some type of gewgaw to ward off the ill effects of their claimed darkness.
HOWEVER, if the reader is interested in ultimate protection, the reader will become a follower of Jesus Christ.
The Bible says believers will be protected.
“And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. “
–Revelation 14:4
“And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.”
–Revelation 9:3-4
Recently, while discussing the coming darkness, someone remarked, “After hearing this, I don’t know if I want to know what happens.”
Which is really not much of an end times strategy for success OR survival.
WHAT does the reader think about the coming darkness?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
