Be Aware of With Whom You’re Having Those Internal Conversations

thinking

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”
–2CORINTHIANS 10:5

A not-so-long-ago discussion touched upon a few of the thoughts previously explored in these pages.

That chat had to do with a person’s internal dialog with ‘himself.’

One of the main topics covered was that perhaps the conversations one has “with myself” are something quite more than that.

Moderns are taught that those conversations in one’s head are the total product of SELF. This is quite a new teaching, perhaps just one- or two-hundred-years-old.

Like most modern narratives, it fails to satisfy and it fails to explain much of what takes place during these conversations.

The Running Conversation in Your Head – A collection of narratives about the voices in one’s head.

How loud and insistent those voices become are determined by several things; none of which, of course, are covered in this article–which is, quite naturally, designed to drag away any who are interested from the truth of the matter.
Hearing Voices

Several questions were posed concerning these supposedly “internal conversations.”

As memory serves, NONE of the questions were answered in a manner which would have benefited the other person.

HOWEVER, there were other questions which were posed which were SUPPOSED to get the one doing the answering to think a bit on the matter.

“IF these conversations are with one’s self, why do so many report that they ultimately include suggestions on self-harm or self-destructive behaviors?”

“IF these conversations are with one’s self, then why do so many claim that they urge various self-destructive acts?”

“IF these conversations are with one’s self, why are so many left upset and disturbed by them?”

“Are that many frightened of themselves?”

“Why do so many who have these ‘internal conversations’ report discovering they have a completely different personality of which they were previously UNAWARE?”

So many moderns are so used to having these little discussions with what they suppose to be themselves.

But, what if the conversation is with another entity–an entity who wishes NO GOOD to the one having the conversation?

The modern world pays a GREAT DEAL of attention to these ‘internal conversations’–as well as where a person’s thought might originate.  The world is almost unanimous in urging its readers that thoughts originate inside of their heads.

“If you believe that your thoughts originate inside your brain, do you also believe that television shows are made inside your television set?”
―-Warren Ellis

IF the reader paid more and CLOSER attention to these ‘internal conversations,’ he might be surprised at what he learns.

The reader might also gain a new-found appreciation for 2CORINTHIANS 10:5.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”

After a lengthy period of disagreement, the conversation cited at the beginning of this piece ended with little agreement OTHER THAN ONE SHOULD BE AWARE  OF WHOMEVER ONE IS HAVING AN INTERNAL CONVERSATION.

WHAT does the reader think about all of those little conversations he has “with himself“?

HAS the reader EVER considered that those conversations might be leading the reader somewhere he originally didn’t think of going?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

America: The Land of Idle Words and Small Talk

IDLE WORDS: We will be judged for every word that has come out of our mouths.
IDLE WORDS: We will be judged for every word that has EVER come out of our mouths.

It has been almost two years since we last touched upon the topic of “idle words.”

End Times America: A Land which Values Clever Idle Talk

It has been almost SIX years since we FIRST examined the subject.

EVERY IDLE WORD: Judgment for Blah Blah Blah

This is brought to mind again because of what Jesus said about idle words.

“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
–Matthew 12:36-37

WHAT IS AN IDLE WORD?

This literally means a vain, thoughtless, useless word, that accomplishes no good. Here it means, evidently, “wicked, injurious, false, malicious, for such” were the words which they had spoken.
–Albert Barnes, Notes on the Whole Bible, Matthew 12

Every idle word] rhma argon, a word that does nothing, that neither ministers grace nor instruction to them who hear it.
Adam Clarke’s Commentary, Matthew 12

This is a strong admonition to guard what is spoken. “Idle” words are not necessarily those casual and insignificant sayings indulged in the course of social fellowship, nor such words as may be calculated to bring a smile to care-worn faces, but rather, they are the words that betray a bias of the soul against God and expose the evil heart of the sinner.
Coffman’s Commentaries on the Bible, Matthew 12

William Burkitt had the most to say about “idle words” in his Expository Notes and Practical Observations on the New Testament:

I say unto you; I, that have always been in my Father’s bosom, and fully know his mind; I, that am constituted Judge of quick and dead, and understand the rule of judgment; I, even I, do assure you that every word that has no tendency to promote the glory of God, or some way the good of others, will fall under censure at the great day, without an intervening repentance.

Note here, That there are two sorts of words for which we must be judged; sinful words, and idle words.

Sinful words are blasphemous words, censorious words, lying and slandering words.

Idle words are such as savour nothing of wisdom and piety; that have no tendency to make men either wiser or better: how light soever men make of their words now, yet in God’s balance another day they will be found to weigh very heavy.

What a bridle should this text be to extravagant tongues! Let your speech be always seasoned with salt Colossians 4:6, that is, with wisdom, &c., for our words may mischief others a long time after they are spoken.

How many years may a frothy or a filthy word, a profane scoff, an atheistical jest, stick in the minds of them that hear it, after the tongue that spake it is dead!

A word spoken is physically transient, but morally permanent.
Burkitt’s Expository Notes, Matthew 12

EVERY IDLE WORD: Judgment for Blah Blah Blah

IF the reader dwells in America, then the reader lives in the epicenter of idle words.

The Capital of Small Talk.

The Land where Chit Chat IS King.

This is merely a friendly reminder that EVERY idle word will be accounted for.

Every joke.

Every speculation about the neighbor girl and who she’s been dating.

All the times one “chews the fat” or “shoots the breeze“–particularly when the talk concerns others–will be laid to one’s account.

It does not matter that all of those idle words usually went in one ear and out the other: ALL idle talk will be judged by the Perfect Judge.

It does not matter that one might have grown up in a land which labeled much idle talk as “an art form.”

Idle words are idle words.

And for all of those folks who are thinking, “What’s the harm in a little small talk?”

When one’s words are played back, many times the small talk isn’t so small.

Just a reminder.

“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
–Matthew 12:36-37

WHAT does the reader think about ‘idle words’?

DOES the reader believe that it is too harsh to judge one’s small talk?

No Rest For the Wicked

rest

One point on which the Bible is VERY clear: the wicked enjoy NO rest (or peace) while living out their lives of iniquity.

“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.”
–Isaiah 57:20-21

At least a few of the wicked may have thought to themselves, “Ha! ‘No peace for the wicked!’ We’ll see about that!  I’ll settle for a little R & R.”

BUT, when God declares ‘no rest’ or ‘no peace,’ He means just that: NO REST (NO PEACE).

It matters not that the wicked hide themselves among a sea of other wicked ones.

God knows who they are: they are NOT hidden to the all-power Creator–OR His coming judgment.

“Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.”
–Matthew 10:26

How many men does the reader know who seem to busy themselves, daily dashing here and there, back and forth, always ‘busy;’ never able to seemingly able to catch their breath?

IN FACT, one of the ways the reader can KNOW he is now living in the end times is that many will rush around ‘too and fro.’

“But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”
–Daniel 12:4

One method the vigilant believer can KNOW who the wicked are is by observing who it is among men who constantly seek rest.

That the wicked will have NO peace (or rest) in this life is such an important point, it is repeated for the reader in God’s Word.

“There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.”
–Isaiah 48:22

At this moment, is the reader reassuring himself he is NOT wicked by offering his yearly vacation as “proof” he rests–at least ONCE a year?

OR, is the reader one of the many who loudly proclaim they feel like they need a vacation to rest up from their vacation?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
