The People of the End Times World

IF the reader would like to involve himself in an interesting thought experiment, he might take a few hours to walk among the multitudes of end times men and see what conclusions he is able to draw (based upon the interactions and observations which occurred during his short walkabout).

This was done–within the past few days–by this writer.

IF the reader decides to proceed with this project, he may wish to compare notes.

1- Though there may be a FEW who could be classified as “nasty,” there were a GREAT many more who could be labelled as “nice” OR “friendly” OR (even) “helpful.”

While one would be better served by this SECOND group IF one is looking in a store for a two-inch wide band of elastic, God’s Word is SILENT about God extending eternal salvation to those who are “nice” OR “friendly” OR (even) “helpful.”

2- While it may be of some assistance to assign “nice” or “nasty” labels to the multitudes of end times men one walks amongst, it should be noted that a FAR more useful classification would involve “busy-ness:” as practically ALL were involved in some sort of work, to some extent.

Some were busy at a workplace; others were busy doing the things they felt it necessary to do.

Again, the Bible is LARGELY silent about work serving as a pre-condition of eternal salvation.

ALTHOUGH, Jesus did relate a parable to His followers to “occupy” until He returned. (“Occupy” generally being understood to mean “doing the work of the Kingdom of God” or “be about productive, Kingdom business” until He returned.

“And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.”

–Luke 19:11-13

Otherwise, “work” many times may serve as a distraction to those who have avoided separating from the world and the things of the world.

MORE

3- Not only would almost NO ONE talk about “eternal salvation,” MOST seemed embarrassed–some only slightly–by the subject matter.

4- Of the very few who WERE willing to engage in a conversation about “eternal salvation,” practically ALL wanted to talk about the church they attended.

5- One man wanted to talk about a religious program he watched on TV.

There were other observations made.

And while while they might be unlisted, these additional observations are consistant with the ones which did get mentioned.

NONE proved contrary to the THREE conclusions reached after this short thought project.

1- We are DEFINITELY living in the end times.

Probably in the last days of the end times.

This became evident by, not only, the words which came out of people’s mouths, but by their cluelessness as to the times in which we now live.

2- Modern man is VERY concerned with this present life and the things of this world.

3- Modern man is not very concerned AT ALL with where he will spend eternity–beyond a few who offered that “they DO think about it.”

Which is EXACTLY how God’s Word describes the times and those who dwell upon the earth before Jesus returns.

“Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”

–Luke 28:8

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

A World of NO CONSEQUENCES

consequences

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”
–Hebrews 9:27

Man has ALWAYS desired to do whatever he liked without having a reckoning for his actions.

Maybe that’s why several of the most faithfully recurring themes in everything from man’s literature to man’s movies to man’s religions have to do with avoiding consequences for one’s actions?

OF COURSE, God’s Word informs mankind that there will be consequences (judgment) for ALL behaviors and actions performed while living this life.

Maybe that is what has fueled man’s desire to escape the consequences for his actions?

OF COURSE, modern man GENERALLY not only does NOT believe the Bible, he spends a significant portion of his time–at least, some men do–manufacturing fantasies about being the “one who got away” (from God’s judgment).*

[NOTE: Long, long, LONG before the modern campaign to equate “the one who got away” with misty-eyed remembrances of romance, “the one that got away” ALWAYS referred to one of the most popular fish stories ever told: of the HUGE FISH that the fisherman SHOULD have caught, but for one unbelievable reason or another, did not.  “The one that got away” was a LARGE fish that somehow always escaped the fishing skill of the one telling the story.]

1- TIME MACHINES OR OTHER METHODS OF MANIPULATING TIME

AT ONE TIME, this popular theme was merely a way to “jazz up” a story.

However, the MODERN idea seems to be to concentrate on someone escaping his lot in life by manipulating time; that someone will go back in time to CHANGE something or to make money or some other way of making his life better than it would have been if he hadn’t have taken his time trip.

2- LIVE FOREVER!

This is the devil’s old lie from back in the garden.

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die”
–Genesis 3:4

The main idea is that the person who intends to “live forever” will escape judgment by living forever and not dying.

This is a VERY POPULAR theme in science and the media, where dozens of stories promise “long life” or “longer life” IF ONLY the reader will do THIS or buy THAT.

There are a LOT of variations on this story.

There’s the one about living for hundreds of years. (And after the hundreds of years are up, that person can take another pill or get another treatment–whatever it was that supposedly allowed him to live for hundreds of years!) So basically, that person–if he has the resources–can live forever.

There’s the one about reanimating a person’s dead body AFTER they’ve died by first, FREEZING it and then, bringing it back to life later, “whenever a cure for whatever killed them has been found.”

One of the most recent variations on this theme is the one where a person can upload their brain to a computer or to some sort of brain storage unit AND THEN, that person can CLONE  a NEW BODY!

They then put the old brain (which was stored somewhere) into a new body and voila!–that person is ready for another life!

3- REINCARNATION

This is a popular come-on from several Eastern religions which promise their adherents an eternity of do overs. Oh, some claim that they may come back as a cricket or a bullfrog or a monkey, but basically, the idea is that they will keep at it until they get it EXACTLY right.

There are MANY different tales told about reincarnation, where the idea originated and how it influenced others–but the basic idea is the same: the soul keeps moving to a new lifeform until it ‘gets it right’ through the achievement of “nirvana.

Reincarnation is another attempt to escape judgment by being the best a man can be–over and over and over again…

…as long as it takes.

Man has LONG desired to escape the consequences of his actions.

To this end, a number of unscrupulous men have made promises they cannot keep.

BUT, these cads will never grow short of suckers who want to live in a world of NO CONSEQUENCES.

Which is why stories which promises such a world will ALWAYS find listeners…

…until Jesus returns to earth.

HAS the reader ever heard of any of these stories?

WHAT did the reader think about them?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

What the Cabbie Said

taxi cab

Occasionally, a person will hear something interesting when he did not expect the conversation to provide such entertaining possibilities.

And so it was when (recently) a man who had once driven a taxi cab for a living took an unexpected stroll down memory lane, while riding in a car with several of us.

“That shop up ahead–the one with the “hot dog” sign over the door–I used to take the late night guy home almost every night. Picked him up a lot, too. He used to run around with this wild-looking dude who always wore an old Army jacket.”

At this point, another listener interrupted the ex-cabbie.

“Does any of this have a point?”

“I’m getting to it! Hold your horses!”

“ANYWAY, one night I picked up the Army coat guy and he was drunk. He lived in an alley across from Dollar General and was going home. So, I pull in the alley to let him off–like I always do–and this crazy man (I don’t know if he was waiting for us or not. I don’t know where he came from.) pops up in the alley and start SCREAMING at the guy in the Army jacket. I couldn’t tell what he was screaming about, but this guy was off his rocker!

“I’m turning the cab around ’cause I wanted to get out of there and the Army coat guy comes off his porch and picks up a metal trash can and THROWS it on the hood of–I guess it was the screaming guy’s car parked in the alley. I hadn’t noticed it before.–the guy’s CAR! Smash! Just like that! And the screaming guy gets in the car and drives off!”

“Wow!”

“Yeah, so anyway, the next time I see the guy in the Army jacket–he was kinda a young guy–I ask him, “You know the last time I took you home and that guy came out of nowhere and started screaming and you threw a trash can on the hood of his car? What was that all about?”

“Oh nothing really. All those guys who hang out over at the Hot Dog Shop? They’re all homos and they have parties all the time and for some reason they always invite me and my girlfriend.”

At this point, someone asked, “Wonder why?

“I don’t know, but the that guy was upset because I told someone they were all homos and I guess it was supposed to be BIG SECRET! I didn’t know. Hey, if that’s what they want to do, okay, but leave me out of it!”

At this point, another listener asked, “So that’s it? That’ s how you feel about it?”

BUT, before the ex-cabbie could answer, another passenger chimed in, “I want to hear about the screaming man!’

But before anything more could be added to what the cabbie had already revealed, those two passengers started arguing about “getting to the heart of the matter.”

Whatever that meant.

At any rate, the cabbie seemed all talked-out after this and didn’t have much more to add to what he had already said.

Sometimes, life provides interesting accounts in unexpected places.

Such as what the cabbie said…
