What the Cabbie Said

taxi cab

Occasionally, a person will hear something interesting when he did not expect the conversation to provide such entertaining possibilities.

And so it was when (recently) a man who had once driven a taxi cab for a living took an unexpected stroll down memory lane, while riding in a car with several of us.

“That shop up ahead–the one with the “hot dog” sign over the door–I used to take the late night guy home almost every night. Picked him up a lot, too. He used to run around with this wild-looking dude who always wore an old Army jacket.”

At this point, another listener interrupted the ex-cabbie.

“Does any of this have a point?”

“I’m getting to it! Hold your horses!”

“ANYWAY, one night I picked up the Army coat guy and he was drunk. He lived in an alley across from Dollar General and was going home. So, I pull in the alley to let him off–like I always do–and this crazy man (I don’t know if he was waiting for us or not. I don’t know where he came from.) pops up in the alley and start SCREAMING at the guy in the Army jacket. I couldn’t tell what he was screaming about, but this guy was off his rocker!

“I’m turning the cab around ’cause I wanted to get out of there and the Army coat guy comes off his porch and picks up a metal trash can and THROWS it on the hood of–I guess it was the screaming guy’s car parked in the alley. I hadn’t noticed it before.–the guy’s CAR! Smash! Just like that! And the screaming guy gets in the car and drives off!”

“Yeah, so anyway, the next time I see the guy in the Army jacket–he was kinda a young guy–I ask him, “You know the last time I took you home and that guy came out of nowhere and started screaming and you threw a trash can on the hood of his car? What was that all about?”

“Oh nothing really. All those guys who hang out over at the Hot Dog Shop? They’re all homos and they have parties all the time and for some reason they always invite me and my girlfriend.”

At this point, someone asked, “Wonder why?

“I don’t know, but the that guy was upset because I told someone they were all homos and I guess it was supposed to be BIG SECRET! I didn’t know. Hey, if that’s what they want to do, okay, but leave me out of it!”

At this point, another listener asked, “So that’s it? That’ s how you feel about it?”

BUT, before the ex-cabbie could answer, another passenger chimed in, “I want to hear about the screaming man!’

But before anything more could be added to what the cabbie had already revealed, those two passengers started arguing about “getting to the heart of the matter.”

Whatever that meant.

At any rate, the cabbie seemed all talked-out after this and didn’t have much more to add to what he had already said.

Sometimes, life provides interesting accounts in unexpected places.

Such as what the cabbie said…

HAS the reader ever listened to a story being told?

HAS the reader ever wondered if what he was being told was the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
