Warning the Deceived: The Futility vs The Commands

madness

“Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.”

–Proverbs 9:6

A saying common to these parts is “You can’t warn the deceived: they are deceived.”

This QUITE OFTEN provokes the question: “Then why try?”

Which is NOT a bad question–at least on the surface.

There are TWO parts to the answer.

THE FUTILITY

God’s Word is not bashful about pointing out the futility of trying to “talk sense” to the foolish (who are also called “wicked” and “evil.”).

“Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.”

–Proverbs 23:9

“A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.”

–Proverbs 15:5

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.”

–Proverbs 12:15

THE COMMANDS

Against the truth of God’s Word declaring the fool will not listen to reason are the various COMMANDS to preach to the lost; preach the gospel; and, otherwise warn the deceived ANYWAY.

“Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”

–James 5:20

[Just so there are no misunderstandings, James is referring to the sins of the former sinner, NOT the one who “converteth the sinner.”]

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”

–Proverbs 11:30

“Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

–Mark 16:14-15

SO, against the seeming FUTILITY of warning the deceived is the COMMAND to do it anyway.

IF the believer was NOT a believer, he most likely would avoid warning the deceived. After all, the numbers just aren’t in his favor.

IF the believer was NOT a believer, he most likely would save himself the trouble, the aggravation and the frustration which is the usual fruit of trying to warn the lost.

BUT, because the believer IS a believer, he KNOWS that God will save a few of the deceived–and the believer does NOT want to be an obstacle to be overcome in this process.

And so, the believer–KNOWING the futility of trying to warn the deceived–undertakes the task ANYWAY.

The believer KNOWS–regardless of what the rest of the world may mistakenly believe–that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
–Romans 1:16

Also, if anyone knows, the believer does: the end times are NOT a time to be disobedient to a God one KNOWS possesses UNLIMITED POWER and who DEFINITELY exists.

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

Lack of Understanding: The Deceived Do Not Fear God Because They Do Not Believe in God’s Power

speedometer

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
–Proverbs 1:7

“The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is his name.”
–Exodus 15:3

“Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.”
–Psalm 33:8

“For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward”
–Deuteronomy 10:17

“The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.”
–Proverbs 19:23

“God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”
–Job 28:23,27

Recently, it was wondered: “Why don’t more men have a fear of God and live? After all, God is the most powerful being EVER and a fear of God only makes sense. So why don’t more men fear God and live?”

“As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live”
–Ezekiel 33:11

The answer was arrived at in fairly short order.

End times man is woefully deceived–and the deceived do not fear God because they mistakenly do not believe in God’s power.

And so such men will fear other MEN and what OTHER MEN CAN DO TO THEM, but they will NOT fear God because they are deceived. Either they are deceived that God will stay His hand and not punish them OR they are deceived about God, His very existence and about what He says He will do to them.

As Jesus Himself put it,

“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
–Matthew 10:28

It has taken man almost 2000 years to lose his GENERAL fear of God.

And this is as God had planned: he wants a people who will fear Him because they believe His Word–NOT because those people can see power and destruction flow from his fingertips each day.

And so, the deceived will continue to live their lives as the deceived do: without power, fearful, believing the words of other men rather than the Words of God: all the while paying a heavy price for their scorn and disbelief.

NOT ONLY in this life, but for all eternity to come.

It is ironic that the power which would convince the deceived to fear God is ultimately the same power which will condemn them for their disbelief.

“Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.”
–Proverbs 19:29

DOES the reader fear God?

OR, does the reader fear more “immediate” things, such as the government, the neighbors or members of his family?

The Faithless: Surrounding One’s Self With the Ornaments of Faith

ornaments of faith

Those who fight against God have NO faith in either God OR His Word.

It does NOT matter the many pretty words which issue from their mouths or how they choose to spend their time.

It does NOT matter what raiment they may choose in which to clothe themselves.

It does NOT matter how many ornaments of faith with which they choose to surround themselves.

Indeed, to others of their kind, those who CHOOSE to fight against God OFTEN desire to appear to be righteous.

As Jesus Christ Himself once said,

“They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.”

–John 16:2

HOWEVER, those who CHOOSE to fight against God have NO faith in God OR His Word.

Or His Son, Jesus Christ.

“And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.”

Acts 5:39-40

DOES the reader believe he will see the followers of Jesus Christ persecuted for their beliefs?

OR, does the reader mistakenly believe that we are “too civilized” for something like that to happen?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

End Times Mockers and Scoffers: Open Season on the Followers of Jesus Christ

hunting season

For the followers of Jesus Christ, the last days will be an OPEN SEASON, particularly by the mockers and scoffers of which God’s Word warns.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

–2PETER 3:3-4

“How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.”

–Jude 1:18

“Behold, they say unto me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now.”

–Jeremiah 17:15

BUT, as they say, “Forewarned is forearmed.”

So the few who are followers of Jesus Christ might start preparing for the inevitable NOW.

“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

–Matthew 24:44

Though it might be of some small comfort to those few: even the world believes that “he who laughs last, laughs best.”

IS the reader favorably or UNfavorably inclined toward the followers of Jesus Christ?

WOULD the reader perhaps reconsider his view IF there was some physical danger attached to believing in that manner?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
