The Lost Spurn Eternal Salvation For A Variety of Reasons

To a believer, CHOOSING TO blatantly reject God and God’s mercy–which leads to eternal salvation–which leads to eternal happiness–is almost beyond belief.

HOWEVER, those who spurn eternal salvation DO have their reasons.

The believer may not think highly of those reasons, but they are reasons nonetheless.

SOME of those reasons may be:

1- A COLD CALCULATION.

Of course, that seemingly icy determination is based on what the non-believer believes to be true.

But the non-believer almost always suffers from NOT having all of the facts of the matter.

Sometimes, this is due to rank deception on the part of the non-believer. Sometimes, this is due to choices the non-believer has made without the benefit of complete information. And occasionally, it has to do with the non-believer miscalculating and throwing in with the LOSING SIDE.

Never mind that the losing side MAY appear to be winning by an overwhelming margin.

2- TOO GREAT OF A DESIRE FOR THE THINGS OF THIS WORLD.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

–1JOHN 2:15-16

MOST immediately think of STUFF when they think of ‘things of the world.’

And a lust for STUFF (lust of the eyes)has led to more than one person’s downfall.

BUT, sin comes in MANY different flavors and forms. A failure to control one’s appetites (not sinful in themselves) [lust of the flesh] has snared many a human.

Last, but CERTAINLY no least, comes ‘the pride of life.’

The pride of life has to do with craving the acclaim of the world; to be thought of as a ‘somebody.’

Again, some CHOOSE the acclaim of the world and the recognition of man NOW rather than an eternity of bliss LATER.

The person making the choice can experience the NOW: he is not equipped to experience the LATER.

So he makes his choice based on his limited experiences.

MORE

All this chatter about the things of the world reminds one of the phrase (in the US Declaration of Independence) which talks about “the pursuit of happiness.”

Many an American has chased this will-o’-the-wisp, not thinking that “the pursuit of happiness” OFTEN has to do with the pursuit of the thing of the world–which RARELY, IF EVER, turns out well.

And that is in the documented life we live NOW, nevermind eternity.

3- SOME LOVE THEIR ROUTINE.

To some, “routine” is a synonym for “boring, mind-numbing sameness.

To others, “routine” signifies what they have worked LONG AND HARD to establish. It is their “comfort zone.” To this group, to be without the many small, everyday comforts of life is simply unimaginable. To this group, nothing must interfere with those small comforts which they believe “make life worth living.”

To some, comfort is represented by a morning coffee with cream.

To others, comfort means keeping a well-trimmed lawn and painted picket fence surrounding that lawn.

And (in another cold calculation that will leave many with an eternity to coldly calculate their torment) so, most in this group simply cannot stand the scrutiny their personal lives would undergo IF they became believers.

The uncomfortable questions they would be asked would destroy the main thing that gives value and meaning to their lives: their continual enjoyment of those trivial things they call “creature comforts.”

These are only a FEW of the reasons that man foregoes eternal salvation for something else.

Whatever that ‘something else’ proved to be, there are those who believe it to be a good reason to focus on the here and now.

Which leads one to believe that one of the most uttered phrases on Judgment Day will most likely be,

“If I had only known…”

DOES the reader make choices based on God’s Word?

OR, does the reader make choices based on what he experiences in the here and now?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
