“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

Not long ago, the topic of “being unequally yoked” was examined with a fellow who was one of the church folk.

During the discussion of what “unequally yoked” meant, why it was important and how to avoid it, the fellow made an interesting–which is NOT the same as correct–point about popularity.

“IF I do all of the things you say you have to do to be a Christian, I can see that I wouldn’t be very popular for very long.”

“Why do you care so much about being popular?”

“I don’t, really.  But I can see the ladies might be put off by not being the center of attention.”

“You don’t think a lady–if she likes you–tries to put HER best foot forward? You think the ladies ALWAYS tell you what they think? You think the ladies ALWAYS tell you the truth?”

“Well, probably not. But that still doesn’t change that there will be plenty of women put off by someone all fired up on Christianity.”

“Tell me: what did popularity ever do for you? Where did being popular EVER get you? If you wanted to be popular so bad, maybe you should have stayed in the world?”

“Don’t get upset. I was just saying I pay attention to what the women want. That’s only smart.”

“I’m not upset. I remember when I asked myself many of the same questions you are asking today. Back when I was a heathen. But again: what did popularity ever do for you? Why are you so concerned about what others think about you–I thought you didn’t much care what people thought?”

The discussion then got bogged down and went in circles for a while, with the one who was concerned enough about his popularity that he made it a point to discuss it–while insisting that being popular was not all that important to him.

Which brings up a few points the reader might keep in mind.

1- IF popularity is important, then Christianity is probably not what you’re looking for–ESPECIALLY during the end times.

2- Many cannot imagine why someone would make a choice which is CERTAIN toeschew popularity–ESPECIALLY a choice which involves something as personal as “religion.”

3- The discussion NEVER did get back to it original starting point about being “unequally yoked.”

Which means that the topic might make a good article some day.

God willing.

DOES the reader pay attention to how popular or unpopular he is?
DID the reader ever think about the source of that popularity?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
