God: Master of Time

God Almighty is a Time Lord.

By existing at ALL points along time (which God created), God lives in TOMORROW as much as He lives in today.

Actually, by creating (and taking command of) ALL that exists, God’s mastery of time is a GIVEN.

IN FACT, time is one of the things God created to give order to the chaotic universe ONCE man was created.

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
–1CORINTHIANS 14:33

By existing at all places, in all times, God KNOWS what will happen, what has happened and what is happening at the moment.

By existing at all points in time, God KNOWS what will happen in that place which man calls “the future” because God has ALREADY seen that time.

The future” is as familiar to God as “the past” or “the present” is to one of God’s creations, particularly man.

Because man (and apparently all other created beings) experience time as a linear event, with a beginning, an end and whatever is in between those two points, it is EXTREMELY difficult for man to completely understand how God’s mastery of time IS ONLY ONE OF THE ATTRIBUTES which makes Him All-powerful (omnipotent) and all-knowing (omniscient).

Because God is omnipresent, He KNOWS what will take place before man (or any other created being) can see events happening.

Man has created many works of fiction which deal with TIME: time travel, time machines, time manipulation, time bandits–and more.

HOWEVER, man has never created a work of fiction which featured an all-powerful, all-knowing God who was omnipresent.  There would be no logical way such a being could ever be challenged (let alone beaten or overcome): so any fiction involving such a being would have its ending ALREADY written.

So, any authors which wrote about such a universe and such a God would already have the story written for them.

When Satan challenged God earlier in time, Satan obviously did NOT take into account God mastery of time (and God’s knowledge of what was to come).  Otherwise, it would be hard to imagine Lucifer (as Satan was then called) going after God’s place in the cosmos.

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”
–Isaiah 14:12-15

Of course, after suffering defeat after defeat at the hands of God, Satan appears to have NOT learned anything from his past experience.

Satan once AGAIN challenges God in the last days.

[Revelation 1-22 has a full account of the happenings.]

God AGAIN wins.

One of the reasons God triumphs is that God already exists in that time we call “the future” and KNOWS what will happen.

Man is EXTREMELY weak and easily deceived.

Why else would man follow Satan (who has NEVER won) against God (who has NEVER lost) during the last days?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

The Chastening

“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
–Revelation 3:19

As each man gets older and more experienced, practically EVERY man loses patience with those who would teach him using chastening.

It is not hard to see why this is.

As each person grows older, that person becomes more accustomed to HANDING OUT instruction–along with the discipline which accompanies effective teaching–than to RECEIVING it.

HOWEVER, followers of Jesus Christ KNOW that the LORD ‘chastens those He loves.’ (Jesus said as much in Revelation 3:19).

God does NOT try to instruct the wicked because the wicked are mostly UNTEACHABLE.

“…fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
–Proverbs 1:7

“Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.”
–Proverbs 28:5

“Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.”
–Daniel 12:10

“A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.”
–Proverbs 12:2

(As a newer translation put it, “but that his heart may discover itself” becomes “but only in expressing his opinion.”)

So, the followers of Jesus Christ KNOW that, while chastening often exposes the one chastened to discomfort (occasionally to EXTREME discomfort), that discomfort is of a TEMPORARY nature. If one is chastened, one is loved by the LORD.

IF one is so concerned with his comforts in this life, then (like most moderns) one will likely NOT be effectively instructed using chastening (punishment and suffering as a teaching tool).

Those who happily endure being chastened KNOW it is much better to suffer temporary discomfort than eternal torment.

Just as it is better to be instructed in this life than to be judged, found wanting and to pay for that judgment eternally.

BUT, believers ‘take the LONG VIEW‘, as it is known.

And, because of their short-sightedness, the wicked concentrate on achieving comfort in this short life–all the while gathering an eternity of hurt.

Perhaps that is a BIG reason the followers of Jesus Christ do not so much mind their chastening?

HAS the reader thought much about THE CHASTENING of the LORD?

Does the reader welcome such CHASTENING?

How Many?

Christianity has a number of messages which bear repeating–and some which bear repeating CONSTANTLY.

One such message is the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ.

This point arose last week when preparing various articles for publication.

The thought struck, “This topic was just covered a few months ago.  Should it be written about once more?  How many times is TOO MANY?”

“How many is too many?”

This is probably a question best answered by each individual reader.

While focusing on the question, a few thoughts were formed and several got stuck in the mind.

The following originated from those jammed-up thoughts.

1- The gospel message CANNOT be repeated too many times, regardless of how often it appears.

The gospel message should be proclaimed (in words, both written and spoken) OFTEN.

How often is “often“?

Again, the gospel message CANNOT be repeated too many times, regardless of how often it appears.

Preaching the gospel is a COMMAND the believer MUST obey.

“Afterward he [Jesus] appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
–Mark 16:14-15

2- Different readers will treat different messages differently.

This seems to be plain common sense–but many easily forget it.

Readers are NOT a solid mass of humanity with all the same needs and all the same preferences.

One may enjoy reading “slice of life” feature-type pieces; another may prefer hard knowledge from the Bible on various topics concerning the end times; a third may focus on the gospel and those messages which help one understand God’s message.

What may be “too (annoyingly) frequent” for one reader may be “NOT ENOUGH” for another.

3- Readers may miss particular articles or posts which feature particular topics.  While articles themselves may be searched through the ETPR archives, it may be harder to locate those points which only appear in the daily posts.

4- While certain topics are SURE to be covered on a REGULAR basis, others may go MONTHS–if at all–between appearances.

The reader may rest assured that the writers attempt to strike a BALANCE in the articles and topics which are selected for publication each day.

How many is too many?”

Probably the BEST answer to this question is “It depends on the person.”

And while it SEEMS simple enough, it may be harder to keep in mind than most suspect.

DOES the reader have preferences which are different than those of his friends?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Creating Evil

“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.”That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. “
–Isaiah 45:7

One sure way to start an argument with many of the church folk is to quote Isaiah 45:7.

“God does not create evil!”

“That’s silly!”

“God has NOTHING to do with evil. Period.”

Such folks are at a loss if asked, “Does God create everything?”

“For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen”
Romans 11:36

“Yes. God creates everything.”

“Then who creates ‘evil’ if not God?”

One problem with SELECTIVELY trusting the Word of God is that eventually, such SELECTIVITY ties one up in knots.

God (through His Word) insists He creates evil.

When one does NOT trust God’s Word about Isaiah 45:7 means that one also can’t trust God’s Word about Amos 3:6.

“Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?”

EXACTLY WHERE does one start trusting God’s Word to be true?

At this point, it should be pointed out that God’s Word says that ‘God CREATES evil,’ NOT that God acts in an evil manner or performs evilly.

In fact, God’s Word declares that the LORD CANNOT behave evilly.’

“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man”
–James 1:13

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
–1JOHN 1:5

“For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.”
–Psalm 5:4

It is at about this point that those who do NOT believe the Word of God BUT ACT AS IF THEY DO, start bringing out their SEMANTICAL hoops for their listeners to jump through.

“Oh, when God says he creates ‘evil,’ he is REALLY talking about ‘creating chaos or calamity.’”

“Oh, when Isaiah talks about ‘evil,’ he is REALLY referring to ‘war.’”

“‘Evil’ means ‘confusion’ and God is NOT the author of confusion.”

Some who do NOT believe the Word of God BUT ACT AS IF THEY DO, claim that Satan is the creator of evil.

This gives Satan power he does NOT have. By attributing the power to create–even evil–to Satan, such men glorify and magnify the prince of this world.

By glorifying and magnifying Satan, such men reveal who they REALLY follow.

In NO way does God behave wickedly. BUT, God can (and does and will) make use of EVERY part of his creation–even the wicked.

“The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.”
–Proverbs 16:4

God’s Word IS true.

Believe it.

ALL of it.

WHO does the reader believe created evil?
