Waiting…

waiting...

“I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.”
–Psalm 40:1

One of the burdens laid upon believers during the last days is the WAITING.

Waiting for events the believer KNOWS will happen as they are written in God’s Word.

Waiting for the apparently slow-moving pieces to fall into place into the end times puzzle assembled by GOD (but believed to be planned by those who imagine they control the world).

Waiting for God’s Word to be fulfilled, including the judgments and all else.

WAITING.

The waiting is a burden shouldered by the believer, as the mostly non-believing world does not believe God’s Word, therefore, it generally waits for nothing–except the world’s latest creature comfort.

HOWEVER, this waiting does NOT provoke complaint from the believer for several reasons: the believer understands that the WAITING is a NECESSARY part of his end times duties to a merciful God.

1- WAITING is a necessary part of tribulation.

And without tribulation, heaven would not receive its newest residents.

“Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”
–Acts 14:22

2- The believer WAITS because he KNOWS that the Word of God is TRUE.

IF the believer did not KNOW this to be, he would be an UNbeliever–with all that that entails.

3- The believer understands that WAITING is a commandment from God.

Not a written commandment, but WAITING is understood to be part of watching–as well as all else the believer is commanded by God Word to be doing in the last days.

Nevertheless, despite what the world claims: the end times are not a good time–as if there was EVER a good time–to be disregarding the Word of God.

“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.”
–1THESSALONIANS 5:2

“And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”
–Mark 13:37

“If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.”
–Revelation 3:3

And so, the believer WAITS.

But the follower of Jesus Christ is not idle as he WAITS.

The follower of Jesus Christ is following the commandments of God, preparing himself for what he KNOWS will come, and (his most important duty) WATCHING.

For what does the believer watch?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

FOUR Last Days Reminders

reminder

There’s a saying around these parts that goes something like the following:

“If you need reminding about reminders, then you won’t remember.”

But, regardless of all that, FOUR reminders about the last days will now be offered in the hopes that someone will write a few of them down OR tie a string around their finger OR scribble some on a sticky note and put it where it will be seen–ANYTHING!–to help remember these reminders when the time comes.

And one NEVER knows when the time will come.

Could be tonight; could be fifty or a hundred years from now.

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”
–Matthew 24:36

So, FOUR things for FOLLOWERS OF JESUS CHRIST to keep in mind (those who are NOT followers of Jesus Christ do NOT believe God’s Word–which is where these reminders came from) during the chaos and confusion of the last days.

1- Do NOT, under ANY circumstance, take the mark of the beast OR worship his image.

It does matter in the least if your local smiling wolf in the pulpit says to go ahead and repent later. God’s Word is CLEAR on the matter.

ALL who take the mark–for WHATEVER reason they may give–are bound to suffer eternal damnation.

“And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.”
–Revelation 14:9-11

2- Remember to have the ‘patience of the saints.’

God’s Word, more than once, offers what the patience of the saints during those trying last days will consist of.

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”
–Revelation 14:12

Revelation 14:12 lays it all out for even the simple-minded to understand.

To keep the patience of the saints: 1- keep the commandments of God; and, 2- keep the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 13:10 provides a few examples of keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus

“If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
–Revelation 13:9-10

Revelation 12:11 is even MORE succinct.

“And they overcame him [the dragon and/or his beast] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
–Revelation 12:11

Basically, one has to trust God, keep His commandments and put one’s faith in Jesus Christ to make all things right.

3- One must stay as calm and serene as possible–even when it appears events are dark and grim and will not improve.

IF one has the ‘patience and faith of the saints’ this will be a LOT easier than if one does not.

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”
–Matthew 24:6

“And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.”
–Mark 13:7-8

The account in Luke’s 21st chapter concurs.

“But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.”
–Luke 21:9-11

4- Lastly, the reader should ALWAYS remember to trust God and God’s Word.

Regardless of what the times may look like; regardless of what the authorities may claim; regardless of what everyone else appears to be doing: one must trust God to make all things right for His creation.

This is one of the reasons for the last days.

This last reminder is IMPORTANT: it should be remembered when reminders become easy to forget.

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
–Proverbs 29:25

DOES the reader think he will need such reminding when amidst the last days?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

The Wearisome Joy of Accumulating

“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.”
–Proverbs 13:22

“For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.”
–Ecclesiastes 2:26

What God’s Word has to say about man gathering stuff together to store it away and save it for a “rainy day,” most probably would NOT interest those of the prepper or survivalist communities.

The practice of stocking up on those items which MIGHT be wanted in a future period of need is NOT one which is highly recommended by the Bible.

Jesus Himself illustrated the heavenly view of such actions.

“And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

“But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

“And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?”
–Luke 12:16-24

Apparently, Jesus would NOT have made much of a prepper.

BUT all of the planning and gathering and storing away does NOT lead the hoarder into happiness (as one might be led to believe).

This is easily enough proved by perusing stories of billionaires.  For the most part, these men (and a few women) devote their LIVES to accumulating wealth.

But are they happy?

From the accounts in the press, the answer would have to be “No.

This leads to the observation that accumulating stuff (whether it be goods, money or something else), is a wearisome task at best.

Though the accumulators try to portray their gathering of stuff as a joy, it would appear to be a WEARISOME joy, if joy at all.

This is because sin is a burden to bear: NOT a joyful action which makes the sinner happy.

And what is the constant planned accumulation of goods (or something else) but another name for COVETING ( to wish for earnestly OR to desire (what belongs to another) inordinately or culpably).

Oh, such an observation would provoke an argument or two from the survivalists, but two questions will put the practice into its proper place.

1- AFTER goods, guns, groceries, gold and whatnot are gathered, what does the owner of such a stash do when a NON-PREPPING  friend, neighbor or family member asks for assistance during that time of need?

2- Does the prepper EVER stop prepping?  Does there come a time when he says, “I have enough!”?

IF there is ANY joy to be had from accumulating STUFF, it is WEARISOME one.

WHAT does the reader believe about accumulating stuff?

DOES the reader engage in any actions associated with accumulating?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Petition The LORD With Prayer

There was a popular rock group of the 1960’s and early ’70s which went by the name of The Doors.

One of the songs the Doors sang was entitled “Soft Parade.”

The first lines from that song had lead singer, Jim Morrison, speaking the words into the microphone.

When I was back there in Seminary school
There was a person there
Who put forth the proposition
That you can petition the Lord With prayer
Petition the Lord with prayer
Petition the Lord with prayer”

After a pause, Morrison would then SCREAM out “You CANNOT petition the Lord with prayer.”

[Originally, the lyrics and theatrics were a lead-in to the title song from the album, The Soft Parade. Later, the words were attributed to a song supposedly entitled, “Petition the Lord With Prayer.”  HOWEVER, if this song did somehow exist, it was NOT included on early LPs and CDs of the album. ]

This all goes to say, “It’s a good thing Jim Morrison was NOT a Bible student.”

Why?

Because the LORD God CAN be petitioned with prayer–IF the petitioner is a born-again believer.

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
–1JOHN 5:14-15

Because those who are eternally saved by experiencing the transformation of the new birth have God’s Holy Spirit dwelling within them, the prayers they say get heard by God BECAUSE the Holy Spirit makes sure they pray with the will of God.

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
–Romans 8:26-27

“I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”
–Jeremiah 17:10

SO, regardless of what exalted rock singers (or their supposed friends and acquaintances) might claim, the born-again believer CAN petition the LORD with prayer.

SUCCESSFULLY.

The wicked, evil and foolish sinner?

No, he cannot petition the LORD with prayer.

And now the reader knows.

Did the reader ever wonder if he could petition the LORD God with prayer?

What does the reader NOW believe?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
