“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
–Romans 15:4
There is a SIZABLE group who are focused on pens and various configurations of paper.
In other words, FOR SOME REASON, there are those who focus on pens (or pencils) and paper.
These folks are noticeable whenever a department store puts its ‘school supplies’ on display–including many pens and pencils AND a whole array of paper tablets of various sizes. They are drawn to these displays–specifically the displays of pens and paper–like a moth is drawn to a flame.
Perhaps this group has been bitten by the “blank page bug,” i.e; the desire to fill up blank pages of paper with the wisdom they KNOW will pour out of them as soon as they begin writing?
OR, perhaps they just abhor a blank page and feel the need to fill it with SOMETHING?
Maybe as children, these folks were deprived of paper and writing utensils?
Perhaps this group is that part of mankind which is forever searching for the PERFECT PEN: that pen which not only LOOKS good, but FEELS good and PERFORMS WONDERFULLY each and every time it is called upon?
For some, the PERFECT pen not only looks good, it fits their hand like it was made for it. The only thing a PERFECT pen does not do is get up early in the morning and fix its owner a breakfast of eggs and bacon.
Whatever the reason, these people REALLY appreciate pens and paper.
A LOT.
It doesn’t matter that they have BUCKETS of pens and STACK upon STACK of paper: they never miss an opportunity to add to their collection.
SO, maybe this odd fascination with pens and paper–like other things of the world–can be easily explained with one sentence.
“It’s not so much the getting of the thing which brings satisfaction: it is the chase.”
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
