“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
Eternal life is a GREAT gift from a merciful God.
“but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The reader can KNOW this is true because it is so written in God’s Word and God’s Word is true.
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”
BUT, a gift is only a gift to those who desire what is given as a gift.
something voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation
Otherwise, what is given is merely a trifle; an expression of a thought by the giver; something ultimately undesired by the one who receives such an expression.
How does the reader KNOW that eternal life is bestowed upon ALL who greatly desire it?
It is written in God’s Word.
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
“Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
One of the GREAT benefits of those who sincerely seek God are the great gifts He bestows on all who find Him.
The worldly man is focused on THIS life and all that it offers (mostly to the senses). Therefore, the worldly man seeks after worldly things.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
To the world man, a ‘gift from God’ is a passing thought: a mental construct which has NO bearing on this life and all that the worldly man knows, values and desires.
There are MANY who CLAIM to desire God’s great mercy, one facet which is eternal life–particularly those in the churches–but, at the end of the day, this is merely talk, for almost all who inhabit the churches are interested in THIS life and what it has to offer.
One may KNOW this by listening to the church folk talk amongst themselves. That talk focuses mostly on this world, the things of this world and how to achieve the things of this world.
IF one GREATLY values the mercy and gift of God, one will truly seek God.
And IF one sincerely seeks God, one will find God.
And IF one finds God, one will find the things God has for those who sincerely seek Him.
IS the reader one who seeks God?
OR, is the reader one who is primarily interested in the things of this all-too-brief life?
[It should be noted that God KNOWS a man’s heart and thoughts. A man may insist that he has always GREATLY valued eternal life, but God KNOWS whether that is true or just talk. In fact, it is suspected that there will be MANY who ‘talk a good game‘ when it becomes crystal clear to them that they are to be judged–in spite of what they have been told or believe. IF a man has valued the things of God, God will KNOW. IF a man has valued the things of the world, God will KNOW that as well.]
Again, is the reader primarily interested in the things of God or the things of the world?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
DOES the reader believe he is NOT saved?
THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
