The Gentle Art of Modern, Everyday Navigation

Every once in awhile, a person will say what he is saying boldly and QUITE LOUDLY and what is said quite LOUDLY will later provoke a quiet thought or two.

The scene which provoked this rush of belated ponderment was this: one day several weeks ago, while in a big box retail store attending to a few necessary chores, a man came through and almost shouted that he was balancing the day’s MANY burdensome duties like a champ.

AND, he was doing this in a VERY loud, very public manner in a very public place. Most of these duties of which he so LOUDLY informed those who were listening seemed to involve shopping for the Christmas season.

It was almost AS IF the man WANTED all of his fellows who were in earshot to KNOW that this man had a LOT on his plate and yet, he was STILL having the time of his life doing all of those many things while accomplishing OTHER tasks at the same time.

Perhaps the reader has made the acquaintance of such a person in times past?

IF the man had had a theme song, it might have been, “Ain’t no stopping us now!”

IF the man had boiled all of what he had so loudly proclaimed publicly into one simple sentence, it might have been, “Look, ma, no hands!”

Not only was the man handling all of the day’s demands in a VERY efficient manner (according to him), he appeared to obviously be enjoying a nice time doing it.

The thought this provoked (at a time a few hours later) was this: what this harried–though seemingly happy–soul wanted all to know–at least all that were in that department store that day–was that he was a NAVIGATOR of life’s occasionally-treacherous waters.

Perhaps the reader knows of such a navigational expert?

Someone who can steer clear of the day’s many obstacles and STILL maintain a healthy smile for those who come in contact with him?

Someone who seemingly SPECIALIZES in juggling with both hands and one foot?

Someone who appears to effortlessly handle whatever may come his way–or, at least, that’s the story he tells everyone.

And so, AN ADDITIONAL thought was provoked several hours after this scene was witnessed was “I wonder if the man was having as good a time as he proclaimed?”

One final thought.

Perhaps a thought which ONLY occurs to those who concern themselves with the eternal salvation of the deceived?

“The man appeared to be doing well handling the many tasks the day had brought him. I wonder if the man ever had to juggle spiritual matters as well?”

These thoughts–coming as they did after that man–whoever he was–was LONG gone, didn’t seem to have any neat and pretty answers.

“Was the man–who had seemingly mastered the gentle art of navigation–eternally saved through faith in Jesus Christ–OR did he shipwreck (as so many do) while focusing on the things of this world?

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
–1JOHN 2:15-16

There was no way of knowing the answer to this last question.

HOWEVER, as MOST of mankind is hopelessly deceived about such things, the answer was mostly likely a VERY LOUD, “NO!”

HAS the reader ever accomplished such a feat of modern, everyday navigation?

IF the answer to this question is “Yes,” then did the reader then express joy and happiness?

It is not YET too late: there is still a little time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

The Choice

choice

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
–Matthew 6:33-34

Perhaps the MOST important thing to remember about the end times.

It is all about making one choice.

The choice?

Belief in God and the things of God (including God’s Word) OR something else.

And there are PLENTY of something elses which compete with God for the attention of end times man: the world, the things of the world, man and the schemes of man, Satan and Satan’s end times worldwide kingdom and Satan’s man of sin OR belief in one’s self.

Actually, what that ‘something else’ ends up being is NOT so very important–except to the one making excuses as to why he felt his wrong choice of ‘something else‘ was MORE important than the One-who-Created-All.

However, the choice remains as it always has been: a choice between God or ‘something else.’

As was pointed out almost a YEAR ago:

And choices have consequences–even if those consequences are not fully recognized initially.

One choice a person makes is whether to follow the Word of God–or whether to disregard God’s Word and to live as he best sees fit.  And–like most other choices in life–this choice has consequences.

AND, those consequences may not become apparent for YEARS–although the world works ceaselessly to convince the reader that this VERY important choice is really no choice at all.
Choices

Still, for all of the importance of this singular choice, end times man doesn’t appear to attach much importance to the making that choice.

Because this topic is so IMPORTANT, it has been written about before in these pages.

And still–in spite of the number of previous warnings; in spite of the very clear words of God’s Word; in spite of the subject’s sheer importance–end times man very casually makes this decision.

And, just as important, end times man gets this ONE decision he has to make, mostly wrong.

OH, there are a FEW who place value on making this decision.

But modern man is so very BUSY.

And modern man is so very DECEIVED.

Lastly, modern man is so very CONVINCED that he knows best.

And so, end times man will CONTINUE to make this decision offhandedly; without much thought; without much research; without much preparation.

Hopefully, the reader will NOT wait until it is too late; hopefully, the reader will spend a few moments delving into the finer points of this choice.

This one choice–which is the SINGLE most important choice the reader will EVER make–which is so often treated as an afterthought.

HOW does the reader treat this choice?

“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.”
–Romans 8:5

It is not YET too late: there is still a little time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Satan’s Casual Dismissal of That Which God Has Said

casual

NOT ALL of Satan’s attacks on the Word of God take the form of in-your-face, direct attacks.

Occasionally, Satan will seek to discredit the Word of God by using a seemingly-offhand CASUAL remark.

There is more than one example of this tactic, but TWO come immediately to mind.

The first case is when Satan asks, “Did God really say that?”

There is usually no argument about the particulars of what God has decreed.  Only a sort of “Are you going to believe THAT? Surely you are not going to believe what God said?”

The most prominent use of Satan employing this little trick was Genesis 3, in which the devil (in the form of the serpent) asked Eve, “Hath God said?”

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
–Genesis 3:1

The second example of this type of satanic trickery comes from the 1997 film, The Devil’s Advocate.

In a scene from the climax of the film, Satan (who takes the form of lawyer, John Milton) is involved in a discussion with his son, Kevin.

Kevin Lomax: In the Bible you lose. We’re destined to lose dad.

John Milton: Well consider the source son.

NO fireworks.

NO grand denial.

NO disputing the particulars.

Only a casual dismissal of what God has said in His Word–actually, a casual dismissal of God’s Word itself.

“Well consider the source son.”

The casual, offhanded rejection of the TRUTH of God’s Word may be Satan’s most effective trick.

HAS the reader fallen for this wile of the devil?

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
–Ephesians 6:11

Satan is a Liar–But Sometimes He Is Blatant As Well

Of all of Satan’s outright challenges to the Word of God, the devil’s most BLATANT attacks may be those which focus upon the those men who WROTE God’s Word.

Satan has had a LONG history of such brazenness.

The earliest known challenge to God’s Word (of this type) on earth involved Satan and Eve.

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die”
–Genesis 3:1-4

In Genesis 3, Satan (in the form of the serpent) directly challenged what God had told Eve.  Actually, the devil challenged what God had already spoken.

Satan was not only a liar, he was a BLATANT, in-your-face kind of liar.

This blatant, brazen lie is the type that Satan and his workers of iniquity employ against those who have written down God’s Word.

The most over-the-top example of this type of falsehood has to be Satan’s attacks–by any and all means–against the author of the Book of Revelation: Jesus.

Avoiding argument, Satan has used his workers of iniquity to label the Book of Revelation as THE REVELATION OF ST. JOHN THE DIVINE in large letters at the beginning of the book in many different editions of God’s Word.

Perhaps the reader owns one of these editions?

In this manner, Satan proclaims that the Book of Revelation is from the apostle John–despite the Book of Revelations’ opening words on whose revelation it was that God’s Word provided.

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.”
–Revelation 1:1-2

This outright lie about the source of the Book of Revelation may be Satan’s MOST blatant challenge of what has been written in God’s Word. It is NOT the only such challenge by the devil of the human writers of God’s Word.

Basically, it all boils down to Who are you going to believe?

God’s Word or Satan.

During the end times, ALL of the world–except for a few–believe Satan.

DOES the reader believe that which the world claims OR does the reader believe the Word of God?

It is not YET too late: there is still a little time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
