ALL Good Things Come From God

good things

“John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.”
–John 3:27

Occasionally, a conversation reveals much about a person’s worldview.

And so it was that someone’s complete worldview was revealed during such a discussion the other day, which went a little like the following.

“Walmart has the system!  Whenever someone buys something from any Walmart and it’s rung up at the cash register, a computer tells whoever is in charge of ordering at Walmart’s headquarters to order another of whatever was bought and send it to that store.  That way, they never run out of anything important.”

“Yeah, but Walmart is almost ALWAYS out of something.  So either that system is broken or the person doing the ordering is NOT doing their job.”

The person continued on, as if the reply had not been given.

Maybe that person wasn’t really listening?

“Take food.  If you buy a kumquat, the bigwigs at Walmart’s HQ KNOW a kumquat was sold and they better ship a replacement RIGHT NOW!”

Yeah, but you don’t get your food from Walmart: your food comes from God.”

“I don’t know about all that, I’m talking about real world food: it’s grown somewhere, it’s shipped to Walmart and then they ship it to the local store and then I buy it and take it home and eat it.”

“So, is that where you think your food comes from: a truck from Walmart?”

“You can talk all you want about it, but MY food is put into MY cart at the grocery store and then taken home after I pay for it.”

“Just checking.”

LATER (some hours after this conversation), it was wondered how the other person would have answered the question, “Why do so many farmers pray for rain?” But, asking the person that question was almost-as-quickly dismissed: the person would no doubt say something on the order of “That’s your opinion.”

As stated beforehand, sometimes a conversation can reveal a person’s worldview–including the things in which a person places their trust.

Meanwhile, God’s Word has SEVERAL things to say on the subject.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
–James 1:17

“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.”
–Psalms 37:3

“For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.”
–Psalms 50:10

All good things come from God.

And God WILL provide.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
–Philippians 4:19

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
–Matthew 6:31-33

“The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.”
–Psalms 34:10

The internal conversation which occurred hours [days?] later then ended with two thoughts: 1) that ALL good things come from God [which was confirmed by some quick research into God’s Word]; and 2) with the admission that it is many times FUTILE to quote the Bible to someone who is totally focused on the world and the world’s ways.

Then why do it?

“As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.”
–Ecclesiastes 11:5

Which is balanced by Habakkuk.

“Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.”
–Habakkuk 1:5

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

The Tall Tales of Unbelievers Challenge the Word of God

ALL MEN LIE

“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”
–Revelation 22:14-15

The world tells a GREAT NUMBER of tall tales.

About the way the world is.

About the way the world operates.

About the physical makeup of the world.

ALL of tall tales of the world–which is largely populated with UNBELIEVERS–involve challenging the Word of God.

Some of the world’s tall tales involve a place which does NOT exist and which the world insists surrounds the earth: outer space.

Outer space is a place where the world’s storytellers wax poetic.  Outer space–in the world’s telling–is filled with other planets, dangerous ASTEROIDS and extraterrestrial life.

Because these tales are from the world–and NOT from God–they are endlessly repeated.

Eventually, they are accepted as the truth.

What does God’s Word have to say about ‘outer space’ and the way the world really is?

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. “
–Genesis 1:1,6-8

Heaven is what is above the earth: NOT ‘outer space.’

But, man is a deceived creature and would rather believe a more entertaining story.

Hence, the MANY stories about ‘outer space’ and the MANY stories about the ‘outer space’ stories themselves.

There are other stories of the world which challenge the Word of God.

A few of these tall tales involve the ‘perfectibility of man’–AS IF man was perfectible.

Some other stories told by the world involve RANDOM CHANCE as the creator INSTEAD of a loving God.

It matters not that RANDOM CHANCE has NEVER repeated itself: in the world’s telling, RANDOM CHANCE is something in which modern man places GREAT faith.

IF the reader has a few minutes to spare, he may want to reflect on OTHER stories the world tells which IN SOME WAY  challenge the Word of God.

It does NOT matter so much if the reader believes these stories or not: what matters is that the reader EXAMINE those stories to see if he can tell they are merely STORIES.

Stories which: 1) the world TELLS to those who dwell upon the earth; and, 2) the men who dwell upon the earth put their faith in RATHER than the truth of the Word of God.

The world tells its stories of ‘outer space’ and how DANGEROUS that imagined place is.

BUT, as DANGEROUS as the stories of the world make ‘outer space’ to be, it is still NOT as DANGEROUS as the earth is with all of the world’s stories which challenge the truth of God’s Word.

Who does the reader believe: the world or the Word of God?

It is not YET too late: there is still a little time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

The Human Mind is Wonderfully Inventive

mind

“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.”
–Proverbs 27:12

There once was a woman who asked a few simple questions about the end times.

“I don’t understand!  When all of God’s terrible judgments are taking place, why wouldn’t the people who are involved in that whole business change their tunes and get with the program?  In other words, seeing is believing: why doesn’t seeing make believers out of those people who SEE (with their own two eyes!) all of that taking place AS IT IS WRITTEN? I just don’t understand!”

A small smile and a one-line observation was the reply.

“The human mind is wonderfully inventive!”

Apparently, this reply was not as satisfying as she would have liked.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It means that God Himself will assist unbelievers in believing what they most want to believe–and what they most want to believe is LIES and figments of their own wonderfully-overactive imaginations.”

“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
–2THESSALONIANS 2:10-12

“It means that all of those who are WITNESSING God’s judgment with ‘their own two eyes’ do NOT believe what they are seeing is God’s judgment. It means that it won’t take too long before those who are unbelievers set their minds to work and not long later, they will have PLENTY of reasons why God’s judgment is not God’s judgment; they will have lots of stories to illustrate why what is happening is no big deal; why only those who have puny, primitive minds believe such things.”

“Seriously?”

“It’s happened before.”

“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
–Matthew 24:37-39

“Really?”

“Yes, you see the human mind is wonderfully inventive!”

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
–Romans 1:20-21

DOES the reader believe what God’s Word declares about the last days?

OR, does the reader think it best to ‘wait and see’ what happens and THEN start making hard-and-fast plans?

It is not YET too late: there is still a little time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Modern Man and His Modern Conveniences

modern convenience

Whether it be shiny automobiles zooming saggy man along clean, pristine highways to a destination of his latest wonderment OR shiny, electric escalators moving man’s sagginess up and down between floors to do his very personal, very important shopping OR colorful, shiny smartphones bringing man’s saggy mind new and exciting thoughts from those who consider themselves to be his betters, MUCH is made of  the sheer and utter wonderfulness of saggy modern man’s MODERN CONVENIENCES.

What do some men who have been around say about the many modern conveniences of  saggy modern man?

“The more things that something can do means 1) more things to maintain; 2) more things to break; and, 3) more thing to fix.”

Modern man is HIGH on sniffing his own self-esteem, and like elementary school kids who have been conditioned to believe they are the SMARTEST kids THAT EVER WERE, modern man believes he is the GREATEST thing since sliced bread. Modern man believes he is sitting at the apex of man’s development; that NOTHING in man’s history can match the fabulous-ness of modern man and his fabulous modern accomplishments.

What does God’s Word have to say about modern man and his grade school-ish delusions of self-esteem?

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.  There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.”
–Ecclesiastes 1:9-11

The reader only need do a little research and he will come across stories FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD about ancient man whizzing about in his own personal flying machines.

The reader only need spend a few dozen minutes on the Internet and he will access accounts of ancient man and his ancient weapons, some of which are described as unleashing the “power of a thousand suns.”

And surely, the curious reader has already come across accounts of ancient man’s batteries, computers and communication devices?

What should the reader think about all of this?

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.  There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.”
–Ecclesiastes 1:9-11

This ought to also remind the reader who is interested in the end times of Matthew 24:37-39.

Saggy modern man may make much of his ‘modern conveniences’ and hold them up as ‘proof’ that he is NOT saggy; that he will NOT disappear from history as did those who came before him; that he is, instead, the best that has EVER been.

BUT, there are a few–who, knowing Scripture–believe differently.

MORE

DOES the reader ever wonder about that which came before him?

DOES the reader ever think about HOW man learned to do the things he does?

DOES the reader believe that modern man is the ‘best that’s ever been’?
