ALL Good Things Come From God

good things

“John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.”
–John 3:27

Occasionally, a conversation reveals much about a person’s worldview.

And so it was that someone’s complete worldview was revealed during such a discussion the other day, which went a little like the following.

“Walmart has the system!  Whenever someone buys something from any Walmart and it’s rung up at the cash register, a computer tells whoever is in charge of ordering at Walmart’s headquarters to order another of whatever was bought and send it to that store.  That way, they never run out of anything important.”

“Yeah, but Walmart is almost ALWAYS out of something.  So either that system is broken or the person doing the ordering is NOT doing their job.”

The person continued on, as if the reply had not been given.

Maybe that person wasn’t really listening?

“Take food.  If you buy a kumquat, the bigwigs at Walmart’s HQ KNOW a kumquat was sold and they better ship a replacement RIGHT NOW!”

Yeah, but you don’t get your food from Walmart: your food comes from God.”

“I don’t know about all that, I’m talking about real world food: it’s grown somewhere, it’s shipped to Walmart and then they ship it to the local store and then I buy it and take it home and eat it.”

“So, is that where you think your food comes from: a truck from Walmart?”

“You can talk all you want about it, but MY food is put into MY cart at the grocery store and then taken home after I pay for it.”

“Just checking.”

LATER (some hours after this conversation), it was wondered how the other person would have answered the question, “Why do so many farmers pray for rain?” But, asking the person that question was almost-as-quickly dismissed: the person would no doubt say something on the order of “That’s your opinion.”

As stated beforehand, sometimes a conversation can reveal a person’s worldview–including the things in which a person places their trust.

Meanwhile, God’s Word has SEVERAL things to say on the subject.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
–James 1:17

“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.”
–Psalms 37:3

“For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.”
–Psalms 50:10

All good things come from God.

And God WILL provide.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
–Philippians 4:19

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
–Matthew 6:31-33

“The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.”
–Psalms 34:10

The internal conversation which occurred hours [days?] later then ended with two thoughts: 1) that ALL good things come from God [which was confirmed by some quick research into God’s Word]; and 2) with the admission that it is many times FUTILE to quote the Bible to someone who is totally focused on the world and the world’s ways.

Then why do it?

“As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.”
–Ecclesiastes 11:5

Which is balanced by Habakkuk.

“Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.”
–Habakkuk 1:5

WHAT does the reader believe?

It is not YET too late: there is still a little time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
