The Powerless Life

powerless

“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”
–Isaiah 40:28-29

Whenever one entertains a discussion on living a life with POWER, it seems there will be at least ONE person who explains that THIS PRESENT LIFE is meant to be lived WITHOUT power–and then explains WHY.

“If we lived our lives with power, there would be no challenges!”

“The problem-solvers of the world can handle most ANYTHING that comes their way!  Who needs POWER?”

“You were supposed to live a life without POWER.  It’s the way God set up things.”

Of course, IF God had meant for His people to live their lives without His power, God’s Word would be silent on the matter.

BUT IT IS NOT.

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
–2PETER 1:3-4

And yes, SOME of those ‘exceeding great and precious promises’ of God have to do with our eternal salvation.

BUT more than a few have to do with God PROMISING his assistance and protection to those who are His.

“In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.“
–Job 5:20

“Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.”
–Psalm 91:3-6

“Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.”
–Psalm 33:18-19

“There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.”
–Psalm 91:10-11

Of course, it is very likely that those who justify a powerless life for man did NOT come up with their ideas on their own.  More than likely, they heard or read about them and were just repeating what they thought sounded good.

IF one does a bit of research, he will find all sorts of apologists for powerlessness, as well as plenty of those who claim to have a remedy for the lack of power in one’s life.

The churches claim that they offer their members a new life.

But do they?

OR, do the churches offer their members excuses about WHY they have no power in their lives; why being powerless is the normal state of affairs?

Now, make no mistake: those who have been reborn spiritually DO suffer affliction from time to time. BUT, whens born again believers suffer affliction, instead of bemoaning the circumstance, they usually turn their attention to WHY IS THE LORD ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN?

The answer USUALLY boils down to God TEACHING the believer through CHASTENING.

And God ONLY chastens those He loves.

“For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.”
–Hebrews 12:6-8

For the transformed believer, many times problems are a case of love, not affliction.

This does NOT mean that the born again believer is powerless.

On the contrary, the born again believer is living his life enveloped by the chastening of a loving Father in heaven.

There are many examples of God demonstrating His power in a person’s life by granting them power over life’s setbacks.

One such example is the prophet Elijah being fed by a widow woman whose small amount of corn meal NEVER ran out.

Another example was the Israelites, when they wandered for 40 years in the desert: their shoes and clothing did NOT wear out during that time.

God loves His people.

God wants what’s best for all who fear Him.

And so, those who are God’s people will live lives which exhibit God’s power.

DOES the reader live a life with power

OR, does the reader live a powerless life?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
