LOOKING BACK
God’s Word contains several WARNINGS about ‘looking back.’
Perhaps the strongest of these warnings was the one recorded of Jesus in Luke 9:62.
“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
WHY all of the anxiety over ‘looking back’?
It might be a little more clear if those warnings were addressed to BELIEVERS.
Those of the world can look back, reminisce about times that never were; engage in NOSTALGIA about things as they WISH they could have been; prattle on about the GOOD OLD DAYS that simply did not happen.

On the other hand, what is it about the life BELIEVERS once lived that would make ANY but the foolish look back?
LOOKING BACK for a BELIEVER is an admission of regret.
Regret over having gained admission to heaven at the cost of giving up the possibility of the very temporary, very short-lived things of the world.
Regret over having found the very difficult, correct way of life.
Regret over the realization that this present life is only a test–and therefore, is not all that important in the scheme of eternity.
BELIEVERS realize that their life before being reborn spiritually was a death sentence: a time when one was focused on the world and the things of the world.
A time when one paid lip service to God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
A time when one enjoyed the exaltation of the world–instead of regarding such acclaim warily.
The BELIEVER is cautioned against ‘looking back’ because, for the BELIEVER, looking back usually means a fondness for that time when the person who is now a BELIEVER was walking the broad, wide path of destruction.
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat”

Therefore, IF one is a BELIEVER: don’t look back.
IF one is a TARE or a WORKER OF INIQUITY: go ahead, look back at what might have been–and the what-might-have-been‘s will most likely be based on this present world.

Everyone LOVES to hear and see DRAMA, right?
And what is more dramatic than an apparent feud among the beautiful people, right?
Particularly if the “feud” is between celebrities, politicos or royal nabobs?
IN FACT, the rich and celebrated almost never disagree: they engage in feuds–sometimes for decades after they have ceased being celebrated for anything else.
What would the beautiful people do with themselves if not for their never-ending feuds?
Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) has always had a problem: what to do when too many of the rich and celebrated have NOTHING “newsworthy” to do. When the media gets tired of reporting what the rich and celebrated are wearing, they turn to the tried-and-true method of of fake “feuds” to generate cheap, plastic “news.”
One popular singer’s entire marketing campaign over the years seems to have been based on engaging in one “feud” after another. But, as the “victims” appear to be primarily the singer’s “fans,” it’s hard to get too worked up over the ruse.
Sports, politics and celebrity culture, European royalty–wherever the rich and celebrated congregate: these are the arenas where readers can most often find stories of “feuds.”
Oh–and pro wrestling…
One can depend on those who labor for the mystery of iniquity to act, in not only an EVIL manner, but also in a very repetitive one as well.
Case in point: when two followers of Satan are working together, one of the first things they do is establish that they 1-do not like each other; 2- they hate each other; or, 3- are fighting against one another.
Democrats and Republicans, Russia and the USA, members of the same family who toil together for evil ends, famous celebrities who are “feuding” with each other: it happens so often, one occasionally has to wonder, “Does Satan have a university or school where he teaches his followers these tricks?”

DAYS WHICH ONCE WERE IMPORTANT
One sign that a person is getting older is when that person considers the time he has occupied while on earth and come to the conclusion that there once–during that all too brief time which is named “the past“–days which were once considered IMPORTANT, but which–at present time–are no more important than any other day.
OR, maybe it is only a sign that the person arriving at such a mental stop is merely more REFLECTIVE?
Though the REASONS for a particular day’s change in status may differ, it seems that MOST of those once-important days CHANGED because the person-doing-the-reflecting has CHANGED his OUTLOOK.
MANY of the days in question were once important to an ex-spouse or a family member who is, for one reason or another, no longer an integral part of the reflective one’s life.
Perhaps a birthday or other day once considered IMPORTANT due to the ex-spouse or family member’s importance is now just another day which passes without much notice?
MANY other days which were once central in one’s life have to do with OUTLOOKS which changed. Perhaps one CHANGED his mind about a group which was ONCE an important part of one’s life? Because that group is no longer in the person’s life, the days set aside for that group’s purposes are no longer important.
It seems that the key word here might be “CHANGES.”
CHANGES in one’s life merit a re-thinking of the time set aside for things which were once considered much more important than they are now.
Perhaps one once devoted time to a hobby or sport or past time which no longer carries that “IMPORTANT” identifier?
It seems that a person who reflects on the times one ONCE spent on various and sundry activities can look at the CHANGES which have occurred during his lifetime and come to a couple of different conclusions.
ONE conclusion is that those times ONCE considered to be important, but, for one reason or another, are no longer considered to be significant?
Well, those times are times WASTED. Hours and hours which one ONCE spent on a person, place or thing are NOW gone and will NEVER be restored or recovered.
A SECOND conclusion is that those times ONCE considered to be important, but, for one reason or another, are no longer considered to be significant?
Well, those times merely reflect a person’s changing life. What a person ONCE considered important is no longer so. BUT, a person NOW spends his time on other people, places or things. This is merely a reflection of a person’s changing tastes and preferences.
Regardless of the amount of time spent on considering what one ONCE felt was important, it seems that consigning some times ONCE considered to be important to the waste bin of one’s life achieves NOTHING.
A person ought to celebrate the many changes in one’s life, not castigate them.
Has the reader ever wandered down this particular path?

LOOKING BACK: WHAT DO THE ‘BIBLE EXPERTS’ SAY?

Perhaps no verse in the Bible demonstrates the ‘homogenization process” of the so-called ‘Bible experts’ better than Luke 9:62.
The process of homogenization among the ‘Bible experts’ works a little something like the following.
1- One ‘expert’ comments on a verse from God’s Word. 2- Other ‘experts’ LATER provide comments which mostly ECHO what the first ‘expert’ said. 3- ONLY those who mostly agree with that first ‘expert’ are considered ‘experts.’ 4- Any who DISAGREE are considered RENEGADES and do not get cited. 5- Later ‘experts’ MAY be moved by force of public opinion to include additional details which will satisfy the public, but probably will NOT clarify God’s Word.
In this way, does the world refine what is ‘acceptable’ thinking about God’s Word.
In this way, does written Bible commentary get homogenized for future generations.
Luke 9:62 addresses what Jesus said about ‘looking back.’
The ‘experts’ commentary ALL agree on what Jesus said–to a point.
First up is one commentary which offers three other ‘experts.’
As no man is fit to manage a plough who is not intent on his work, so no man must think of taking upon himself the profession of the Gospel, who allows worldly considerations to be uppermost in his mind.
—Bishop MannThe ancient ploughs, being much more rude and simple than those in modern use, required peculiar attention in the person who had the guidance of them, in order to make them penetrate the ground and to direct them straight.
—Fragments to CalmetThe first member of this sentence is a proverbial expression for the character of a person, who when he is engaged in a work of importance, allows his attention to be distracted by things foreign to his business.

Next, is an offering from Family Bible Notes.
Having put his hand to the plough, and looking back; the husbandman who puts his hands to the plough must keep them, and his eyes too, fixed upon it. If he looks back, as for example to converse with those behind him, his work will be poorly done. The Syrian plough, being light, required the weight of the ploughman’s body on it to keep it in the furrow. If he looked off, it would start aside. So he who would be a worthy servant of Christ must give him his whole heart and his whole time.
Fit for the kingdom of God; fit for the ministry of Christ’s gospel in his kingdom. Such was plainly the original application of these words. But they apply with equal force to every kind of service which Christ requires. No man who is not ready to leave all when Christ calls, is prepared to serve him on earth, or enjoy him in heaven.
The third ‘expert’ stays the course of the first two.
No man, &c.–As ploughing requires an eye intent on the furrow to be made, and is marred the instant one turns about, so will they come short of salvation who prosecute the work of God with a distracted attention, a divided heart. Though the reference seems chiefly to ministers, the application is general. The expression “looking back” has a manifest reference to “Lot’s wife” (Ge 19:26; and see on JFB for Lu 17:32). It is not actual return to the world, but a reluctance to break with it. (Also see on JFB for Mt 8:21.)

And finally, another ‘expert’ comments on Luke 9:62. This last expert, Albert Barnes, adds a few points to his commentary and may come closes to hitting the nail of the meaning on its head.
No man, having put his hand, &c. To put one’s hand to a plough is a proverbial expression to signify undertaking any business. In order that a ploughman may accomplish his work, it is necessary to look onward–to be intent on his employment–not to be looking back with regret that he undertook it. So in religion. He that enters on it must do it with his whole heart. He that comes still loving the world–still looking with regret on its pleasures, its wealth, and its honours–that has not wholly forsaken them as his portion, cannot be a Christian, and is not fit for the kingdom of God. How searching is this test to those who profess to be Christians! And how solemn the duty of all men to renounce all earthly objects, and to be not only almost, but altogether, followers of the Son of God! It is perilous to tamper with the world –to look at its pleasures or to seek its society. He that would enter heaven must come with a heart full of love to God; giving all into his hands, and prepared always to give up all his property, his health, his friends, his body, his soul to God, when he demands them, or he cannot be a Christian. Religion is everything or nothing. He that is not willing to sacrifice everything for the cause of God, is really willing to sacrifice nothing.

NOTHING is said expressly about whether Jesus was addressing BELIEVERS or NON-BELIEVERS or PRETENDERS.
MUCH was written about the practice of plowing a field. MUCH.
NOT MUCH was written about WHY Jesus may have spoken the words He did.
HOWEVER, the ‘experts’ agree: be careful when plowing a field!

When the reader sees “Why?” or “How?” in the headline–occasionally “What” is used–that which follows will be a fairy tale, a narrative, a bedtime story spun by the media for the benefit of the media’s master. “Why” usually denotes an on-going narrative; “How” signifies a story line which explains past events. Not all narratives begin with “How” or “Why.” However, the most in-your-face, over-the-top ones usually do. ALL political “news” is narrative.

THE DEATH OF FAKE INDIGNATION
The death of Outrage – Actually, the headline should read “The death of feigned (pretend) outrage.”
There are literally hundreds (thousands) of people pretending to be someone they are not on the Internet. These sockpuppets use indignation and outrage as a way to try and influence discussions and also as an exit strategy after they have completely failed to influence someone in the way which they had originally intended.
Oh, and if anyone believes these types of tactics are now “dead” because of a Corporate Media article?
Don’t be so gullible.
THE MEDIA’S RELENTLESS PROMOTION OF MAGIC
There is NO magic.
There IS demonic power.
The Corporate Media (Satan’s Mouthpiece) rarely misses an opportunity to promote witches, wizards, sorcerers, magic and other biblically-forbidden practices.
J.K. Rowling’s History of Magic in North America Was a Travesty From Start to Finish – A fake controversy to distract from the fact that a major media piece is being released which openly glorifies witches, sorcery and the occult.
NOT that plenty of previous works hadn’t already done this (they did, especially Rowling’s Harry Potter series), but this OPENLY exalts these biblically-forbidden practices.
OF COURSE, there’s the mandatory attacks on the Salem witch trials as being hysteria and persecution of the poor witches and wizards. NO piece from Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) is complete without this component.
The pieces reviewed ARE offensive–but NOT because of their claimed lack of faux political correctness.
However, in the times in which we live, JK Rowling and her ilk will continue to be exalted by the world–which will cheer right up until the moment it slides into the abyss of destruction.
There is NO magic.
There IS demonic power.

But the reader would do well to look at the final real results.
IF the reader believes Donald Trump is cutting the budget of the National Religion of the USA (science), then he’s not really been paying attention.
