During Unsettled Times, EVERYONE Turns to God

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.”
–Psalm 53:1

Is it true that during times of war, chaos or national emergency, desperate men will turn to a God they profess to NOT believe in when times were better?

Is this circumstance the basis of the phrase  “There are no atheists in foxholes“?

There are no atheists in foxholes

There are no atheists in foxholes” is an aphorism used to suggest that times of extreme stress or fear can prompt belief in a higher power.

Actually, it might be more accurate to say that “during times of extreme stress or fear, men will acknowledge the God they denied when quieter, more settled times afforded them the security to do so.”

Speaking from their secure, safe havens in mostly large urban centers, spokesmen for ATHEIST ORGANIZATIONS vehemently DENY the observation “There are no atheists in foxholes.”

Several atheist organizations object to the phrase. The Military Association of Atheists & Freethinkers has adopted the catch-phrase “Atheists in Foxholes” to emphasize that the original statement is just an aphorism and not a fact.

Of course, ‘foxhole’ is only a symbol of those times when a man comes face-to-face with his own mortality; i.e., he fears for his life.  It is in such stressful, fearful times that doubting men will ask for help from that which they earlier doubted.

Why is this?

Is it because it often takes one’s looming death to force previously-unbelieving men into the realization that there is something BIGGER than man, the schemes of man and the ‘accomplishments’ of man?

Is it because atheism is a claim best made from the safety of secure surroundings?

Or, is it (as God’s Word posits) because the possibility of death brings previously-unbelieving men to the realization that they were foolish when they proclaimed there was no God?

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
–Psalm 14:1

Regardless of the claimed logic behind such changes when times grow unsettled, turning to God happens so frequently as to be a part of observable human nature.

“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?”
–Romans 10:14

DOES the reader believe this circumstance to be true?

DOES the reader have any thoughts about what it is about chaos and unsettled, uncertain times of trouble which turn men WHO PREVIOUSLY SNUBBED THE LORD to God?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
