The following information was gleaned from three or four different discussions at different times over the past couple of weeks.
Although the original conversations were far-ranging in nature, all of the following info can be broadly be described as “having to do with words.”
And so, some information you may or may not have previously known about WORDS.
1- This entire topic most probably got its beginning when a discussion TOUCHED UPON ‘words one doesn’t hear much anymore.’
2- The specific word which got THAT particular ball rolling was “zwieback“: which was always explained as being a sort of pacifier/teething apparatus/chew toy for very young kiddies, made out of bread which had been baked and then baked some more until the bread was of a VERY ‘durable’ nature.
Here is what one professional word-meister has to say at the present moment about ZWIEBACK.
a usually sweetened bread enriched with eggs that is baked and then sliced and toasted until dry and crisp
And here’s one more definition offered from one who makes a living from words:
A usually sweetened bread enriched with eggs that is baked and then sliced and toasted until dry and crisp; considered easy to digest and therefore given to the ill and used as a teething food for toddlers.
Not having partaken of zwieback, it seems that what one was told growing up is VASTLY different from the meanings offered to the reader today.
3- The next stop along this particular road occurred with another person at another time and place. The topic was WORDS WHICH ARE NOT USED MUCH ANYMORE (for whatever reason).
This led to the discovery of the following article.
The 20 Least-Known Words In English
4- It offered some amusement to read a word from the list and then wait until the other person guessed what they thought the word meant.
The meaning of NO words were guessed.
5- The following words all made the list.
- genipap
- futhorc
- witenagemot
- gossypol
- chaulmoogra
- brummagem
- alsike
- chersonese
- cacomistle
- yogh
- smaragd
- duvetyn
- pyknic
- fylfot
- yataghan
- dasyure
- simoom
- stibnite
- kalian
- didapper
6- IF the reader spends a little time looking up the meanings of those words he is unfamiliar with on the list, the reader will, at least, have indulged himself in a little time well spent.
PARTICULARLY IF one is worldly.
IF one is NOT worldly, then there are NOT many activities which are more profitable than a study of God’s Word.
“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”
–1TIMOTHY 4:7
7- This led to the discovery of a NUMBER of lists available on the Internet which covered all sorts of unfamiliar words.
8- One of the lists which WAS discussed AT SOME POINT was the following.
9 Useful Words You’ve Probably Never Used
9 – This list contains a FEW words which seem to be genuinely helpful.
10- The complete list of nine is as follows:
- Embox
- Rivulose
- Presbyopia
- Mast
- Callipygian
- Geminate
- Majuscule
- Snatchy
- Nidification
DID the reader discover any new words that he MAY use at some point?
DID the reader learn anything new from this piece?
Those who engaged in the original conversations certainly did!
It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
