When first planning what to write on WEDNESDAY (one of the busiest days of the week here at ETPR), a number of topics were initially considered.
It was only when someone mentioned that this week contained not ONE, but TWO days [actually, THREE days: counting Friday which marks our ninth year at ETPR] which are normally commemorated (Mother’s Day and Friday the 13th) did the notion of making those two days the topics of two separate pieces.
After checking the archives, it appears that it’s been EIGHT years since we featured a MOTHER’S DAY article and at least as long a time period since we did something on Friday the 13th (And what was found on Friday the 13th wasn’t even a published article, but one of the recurring pieces which grace these pages from time to time).

SO: this article will NOW concentrate on Mother’s Day (celebrated in the USA a few days ago on May 8).
FIRST: IF the reader is a mother and no one has wished the reader a “Happy Mother’s Day” yet, then here’s one from ETPR!
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, reader!
SECOND: IF the reader was looking for a little history about Mother’s Day, then the reader ought to check out Mother’s Day 2014: Happy Mother’s Day Mom!.
THIRD: We noticed a few comments–odd and otherwise–lately about the day set aside to honor mothers–and we thought we would share these with the reader.
1- A fellow commented on Mother’s Day on Sunday by announcing that “You only have one mother.” [To our way of thinking: this was NOT an odd comment, though it was a bit obvious.]
2- Someone else commented on Mother’s Day on Sunday by pointing out, “Moms teach their kids a LOT of different stuff. Some of it is not so good.” When asked to explain this comment, some additional information came forth. “My mom was a witch. Believe me: not everything you learn from a witch is good for you.” And that’s all that was said on the matter!
3- In the same vein, a THIRD person pointed out that “Although you would like them to be, not all memories of your mother (and father) are pleasant.” There was no explanation offered (nor asked for). The claim WAS repeated, however.
4- Someone who was somewhat acquainted with this writer’s mother made the observation, “You had a wonderful mother. I’m not sure you’d understand.”
This was said as a comment on those whose commentaries on their mothers was not totally positive.
5- ANOTHER person asked a question when MOTHER’S DAY came up.
“I wonder how many Mother’s Day cards they have sold since the whole thing began?”
6- This got the old brain working. According to the LA Times story, Americans are spending more on Mother’s Day than ever before:
(As of My 10, 2019) Mother’s Day overall is the third-largest holiday for the greeting-card industry, behind Christmas and Valentine’s Day, with 133 million sold for Mother’s Day, according to the Greeting Card Assn.
7- And that is ALL of the comments that were made about Mother’s Day 2022.
Maybe it will be another eight years until we do another piece on this topic?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
