The Complete Guide To the Day of the LORD

death reaps souls

It has been almost three years since we published an article about the ‘day of the LORD’ (The Bible’s VERY Specific Descriptions of the Day of the LORD).

With that in mind, we decided to put together a comprehensive guide about what God’s Word has to say about the day of the LORD.

There are 31 Bible verses which mention ‘day of the LORD.’

26 from the Old Testament.

5 from the New Testament.

Perhaps the reader would like to have a handy reference on that term?

There are also 15 ETPR articles on the subject.  They appear at the end.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

A Popular Question

questions

SOMETHING has contributed to a general feeling of unease in the local area (Which is generally laid back and “goes with the flow“).

One indication is a LOT of people asking questions about “how they can be sure of going to heaven?

Another question was popped this afternoon on the topic.

Here was the answer(s) given.

1- “Everyone who GENUINELY wants to be saved, will be saved.”

Almost immediately, this prompted a second question.  “Saved from WHAT?

Perdition and the lake of fire were then mentioned.

2- The Study of the Bible is Profitable for EVERYONE–Not Just Believers

Upon learning that God’s Word instructs those who are perusing it to STUDY it, NOT read it, ANOTHER QUESTION was asked.

You’re kidding, right?

3- You have to live your life as though it was only a test and the NEXT LIFE is the IMPORTANT ONE.

MORE: This Life is a Test: It is Only a Test

MORE: This is Only a Test: The Most Important Test of All

Once the reader realizes the importance of leaving this world behind, he is on his way to eternal salvation.

4- Trust in Jesus Christ to get you through the hard times spiritually.

The answer?

“That’s it?  That doesn’t seem so hard.”

But it is HARD.  Because (almost) everyone wants the comfort and joy of the things of the world instead of eternal salvation.”

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

A Discussion About Death

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
–Genesis 2:7

“In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
–Genesis 3:19

NOT VERY OFTEN–but VERY occasionally–a topic–which is USUALLY approached VERY cautiously–will be discussed FRANKLY.

And so it was that, not long ago, driving along on a sunny day, a car with its two passengers motored past a cemetery which featured a HUGE mausoleum on a hill by the roadside.

“That’s where Mrs. So-and-so is resting.”

“Well, I don’t think she is ‘resting,’ but that is where she was laid to rest.”

“Whatever.  That’s where her body is.”

The conversation, which was entered into so easily, continued.

“I wonder why she chose that big, old building?”

“I don’t know, but she mentioned it several times, so she must have had her reasons.  Maybe she thought it would be easy to get to for anyone who wanted to see her?”

“One of the great delusions of man, while he is living, is that people who didn’t visit him while he was alive will change their ways and visit his resting place AFTER he is dead.”

“I noticed that.  Wonder why?”

“For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.”
–Ecclesiastes 9:4-5

“Maybe people want to believe that they are irresistible…that their friends will visit them after they have died because they can’t help themselves?”

“Maybe.”

“Maybe they think they are just too sweet to be forgotten?”

“Maybe.”

“There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.”
–Ecclesiastest 1:11

“I wonder why she felt the way she did?  It’s not like she was out visiting the grave sites of her relatives.”

“How do you know that?”

“In all of the times it was talked about, she only mentioned visiting the grave of her husband’s mother ONCE.  And that was it.  No one else; no other times.”

And so, a frank discussion of death was ended, put to rest by other topics which were to be discussed on that fine, sunny day.

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.”
–Ecclesiastes 12:7

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

The Evidence of Unbelievers VS. The Proof of Believers

EVIDENCE

There are men who place the HIGHEST value on the products which issue from the human mind.

There are men who place a HIGH value on human reason, human logic and human observation.

These hold that human reason and observation must form the foundation of man’s philosophies and knowledge.

That Biblical revelations and declarations are of NO value, as far as determining the important points of life.

BUT, those who place such a high value on man’s reasoning have a number of problems with which to contend.

Never mind that reason, observation and logic are all based on information which can be CONTROLLED by other men.

So, it is quite possible that many who consider themselves as “free thinkers” are manipulated and controlled by others.

IF a man never is exposed to anything from God, then that man is quite likely to mistakenly craft his beliefs based on his LIMITED exposure to Godly proofs.

Though a human’s mind might be thought of as “powerful” IF compared to the lower animals or other humans, the human mind has a difficult time understanding a great number of things.

Particularly, concepts.

Which is one of the reasons why man–who has a beginning and end–has such a hard time explaining a God who has NEITHER.

Which is why man–who struggles through a life decidedly NOT holy–has such trouble discussing a HOLY God.

Among those who had a quite high opinion of man’s mind was the French philosopher and writer, François-Marie Arouet, who went by his better-known name of Voltaire.

“The human brain is a complex organ with the wonderful power of enabling man to find reasons for continuing to believe whatever it is that he wants to believe.”

“No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking.”

“The true triumph of reason is that it enables us to get along with those who do not possess it.”

It was while scanning a collection of quotes by Voltaire that it became apparent that the evidence of unbelievers lacks the proof of the believer.

When a man examines something with his natural senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell) he limits the amount and type of information he might uncover.

Such a man, using such sensory inputs, often uncovers nothing more than nonsense–especially if that man is examining certain types of information.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:14

A believer will NOT limit his informational inputs.  The believer will then take advantage of ALL information gained.

This is the proof of the believer.

By limiting his information to all which may be discerned NATURALLY (by sensory inputs), a man LIMITS what can be known spiritually.

So, those who place the highest value on the human mind, LIMIT what information that mind might receive.

Such men THEN make their judgments based on the LIMITATIONS they imposed upon their own mental resources.

It is such men who label those who receive ALL information as “primitive” or “primitive thinkers.”

The natural man limits his sources of information to those he has access to.

He then makes do with what he has, all the while gushing, “Ain’t I the most wonderful thing?”

DOES the reader believe that sensory inputs are the highest spot on the totem pole one can go for information?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
