All For Naught

all for naught

In vain; for nothing. Said of an effort that has resulted in failure.

–All of my hard work on that budget report was for naught when the computer system crashed.

–The team’s efforts to make the playoffs were for naught–they got eliminated on the last day of the season.

–I tried to convey the urgency of the matter to her, but it was all for naught when she hung up on me.

Everything done has been in vain. Today a poetic word for “nothing,” naught formerly meant “morally bad” or “worthless.” Thus the King James version of the first Book of Kings (2:19) says, “The water is naught and the ground barren.”

ONCE, there was a wise king who desired that future generations of his people were warned of various calamities foretold at the end of days. And so, the wise king had those warnings of future disasters placed in the Book of the LORD (which ALL read).

Many years later–after the wise king passed on to be with his fathers–the Spirit of the LORD departed from the wise king’s people and they became NATURAL MEN: men without the Spirit of God.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:14

So, even as the people still paid attention to what was written in the Book of the LORD, they no longer understood the warnings which had been passed down to them.

Because the Spirit of God had departed from that people.

And because the people no longer understood the warnings in the Book, they no longer paid attention to those warnings.

The wise king had the right idea to enshrine the warnings so they would live on YEARS after he did. BUT, the wise king never figured that the Spirit of the LORD would depart from his people.

Men will not heed that which they no longer understand.

Though the wise king took precautions, the wise king’s precautions were ALL FOR NAUGHT.

DOES the reader feel it is hard to plan for ALL unexpected occurrences in the future?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
