During the last few days, an interesting conversation was entered into regarding the questions surrounding eternal salvation.
The conversation FIRST addressed the term “heathen.”
The person–who was enrolled in MORE THAN ONE false religion and their precepts–protested the term “heathen” being applied to him.
“I don’t think I’m a heathen.”
“I can’t think of any heathens who DO think they are heathens–particularly those who are members of various churches.”
“What do you say distinguishes a heathen from a Christian?”
“Being born again. Being SPIRITUALLY reborn.”
“So maybe I am born again?”
“Nahhh… You would be SURE if you were.”
The conversation THEN moved onto what constituted eternal salvation and some of its components.
“There’s no wiggle room with that?”
When one is dealing with God, there is not any wiggle room.”

“What would you say is the number one thing about eternal salvation?”
“Fear of the LORD.”
“Fear of the LORD? Do you mean a healthy respect?”
“No. Fear is fear. Jesus used the word “afraid” to describe this fear.”
“And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”
–Luke 12:4-5
“I don’t think I really have a fear.”
“Well, I would say that you would have a hard time being eternally saved without it. God’s Word is pretty clear on that point.”
“And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.”
–2CHRONICLES 19:9
“And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”
–Job 28:28
“Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”
–Proverbs 2:5
“The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”
–Proverbs 14:27
“And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.”
–Isaiah 33:6
The conversation THEN wound down with the one asking the questions admitting that maybe he didn’t value eternal salvation as much as he claimed.
“Nope. No fear there. So anything else I can do?”
“IF you don’t FEAR the LORD, then you lack a basic requirement. Without a FEAR of the LORD, eternal salvation just doesn’t fall into place.”

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
