Years ago, when facing rooms full of the youth, one often heard a common complaint.
“I’m bored!”
Left unsaid was the command of the SECOND PART of the complaint: “Entertain me! I want to be amused!”
Having only a passing acquaintance with what the youth felt was ‘entertaining’ or ‘amusing,’ one was, AT FIRST, at a loss how to address this plaint.
The wailing was common enough: it seemed that EVERY room had at least three or four of the “I’m bored!” crowd in it.
It was STRONGLY suspected that those three or four youth were used to being amused by older folks who had not much else to do.
“I’m bored!”
What was one to do?
FINALLY, a solution was arrived at.
WHENEVER the “I’m bored!” imps began their chorus, one merely looked (in a tired manner) and matter-of-factly replied,
“Only boring people are bored.”
THIS seemed to put an end to the complaining.
If there is ONE THING the youth do NOT want to known for: it’s that they are BORING.
The aphorism had the added advantage of SOUNDING like it was very old and handed down from generation to generation.
Before long, ALL paths of this particular discussion had been abandoned.
Thankfully.
And those few who were used to being amused by older folks?
They discovered that there are things which are more engrossing than amusements or entertainments.
Like meaningful work.
HAS the reader EVER told the world, “I’m bored!“?
It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
