LABOR DAY is one of the few holidays which is celebrated as an entire “weekend.”
SOME holidays–such as Christmas–are celebrated for an entire SEASON.
This celebration of a SEASON is the fate of Halloween, which is celebrated MONTHS before the actual DAY of Halloween arrives.
HALLOWEEN is the PERFECT modern holiday: celebrating death and darkness and trying to make others feel like such commemorations are “fun.”
MANY holidays are only celebrated on the day the holiday is remembered.
President’s Day, New Year’s Day, Groundhog Day: all seem to be in this group of ‘one-day’ holidays.
LABOR DAY, however, appears to involve many in an entire WEEKEND. There are family get-togethers which mark one last bar-b-que or time spent roasting hot dogs. There are picnics and public shows and events which ALL shout “Labor Day” to, not only those who attend BUT to other onlookers as well.
It seems that EVERYONE is trying to squeeze as much as they can from LABOR DAY–and this is one BIG reason the holiday is celebrated as a “holiday weekend.”
One reason for so many trying to squeeze as much as they can from LABOR DAY is that the holiday is commemorated as the death knell of summer and the unofficial beginning of fall.
It seems that folks just want to make the summer last as long as they can.
DOES the reader have anything special planned for LABOR DAY weekend?
It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
