Do Any Believers PHYSICALLY Survive–in addition to SPIRITUALLY Survive–the Trauma of the Last Days?

BEHEAD

So much has been written in God’s Word about the death of believers during the last days, some might mistakenly think that NO believers make it through until Jesus returns.

IN FACT, recently, someone posed just this very question.

“Does everyone get their heads cut off–or do some survive to meet Jesus?”

A great many DO lose their lives for the testimony of Jesus during the last days–but these are very richly rewarded when God and Jesus take over the earth.

“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”
–Revelation 20:4

‘Living and reigning with Christ a thousand years’ is quite a spectacular reward for those who become martyrs for Jesus’ sake.

But there are a number of OTHER verses which suggest the death of believers during the run-up to the return of Jesus.

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
–Revelation 14:12-13

“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.”

So, it is not difficult for those who do not pay strict attention to all that is written in God’s Word for thinking that ALL believers during the last days give their lives for the testimony of Jesus.

HOWEVER, some (a few?) make it through the last days and are there to greet Jesus when he returns.

When the apostle Paul writes of the return of Jesus in 1st Corinthians, he states that though ‘the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed’–implying that SOME survive and ‘are changed.’

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep [suffer death in this present life], but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
–1CORINTHIANS 15:51-53

Paul CLEARLY says, ‘…not all sleep…’

HOWEVER, most believers will end up giving their lives as a form of testimony of Jesus Christ. In fact, giving one’s life as a testimony is one way to ensure that the believer is an ‘overcomer.’

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
–Revelation 12:11

So, to be perfectly clear: MOST lose their lives during the last days (but they are rewarded for such a sacrifice by Jesus Himself).

SOME do survive and are changed and meet Jesus when he returns.

In fact, the apostle Paul writes that some are alive in 1st Thessalonians.

“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
–1THESSALONIANS 4:17

Though some will survive, the WISE believer will prepare as if he does NOT.

HAS the reader ever wondered about the fate of believers during the end times?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Disagreement and the Art of Conversation

conversation

It’s been said that “It takes two to tango.”

NOWHERE is this MORE TRUE than the Art of Conversation.

It’s extremely difficult to engage another in an interesting conversation IF that person agrees with everything you say.

Slight disagreements make for spirited discussions–NOT universal agreement.

The Art of Conversation actually depends on the two people having the disagreement discussing their differences.

This was demonstrated recently by a short–but educational–discussion.

“The times we are living in now promise to be hard on EVERYONE.”

“What?”

“I said ‘the times we are living in now promise to be hard on EVERYONE.”

“You can say that again!”

“Okay.  The times we are living in now promise to be hard on EVERYONE.”

(A little louder.) “You can say that again.”

“The times we are living in now promise to be hard on EVERYONE.”

There was NO disagreement whatsoever; only vain repetitions.

This was then repeated two or three more times, until the person who originally thought it was funny lost his sense of humor.

The idea behind the conversation (‘The times we are living in now promise to be hard on EVERYONE.’)  never did end up getting discussed.

So, that’s another discussion waiting to happen…

Another day.

God willing.

DOES the reader ever ponder the value of slight disagreement?

IF anyone has listened closely to the conversations of the youth, they will notice that a number of purposely-contrived points of disagreement are raised.  It is suspected that this is to provide fodder for the discussions of the youth.

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Two Things Which Will Ensure A Successful Retail Operation

RETAIL

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men”
–Colossians 3:23

[The following originated in a spirited discussion held a few weeks back. The conversation involved anywhere from two or three up to, at times, six or seven.

There were MANY valid points raised by various participants during this discussion.  Several of those valid points have been remembered and are reproduced for this article.]

During a recent discussion, the topic turned to RETAIL and why many are just not that enthused about ‘shopping’ as they once were.

“You have to have a choice to do any REALLY effective shopping: there’s no choices any more!”

“You have a LOT of choices.  Many of those choices just involve you paying for something today and getting it next week.”

“I’m talking about eating out.  Who wants to eat out any more?  A burger and  fries can cost you nine-ten bucks!”

“IF you are lucky!”

“McDonald’s still has all sizes of their coffee for one dollar.  That’s a good deal!”

“Not any more: a large coffee NOW is gonna set you back about a buck fifty!”

“I didn’t know that.”

It doesn’t matter: when most people buy a coffee, they get something to eat with it.  The “something to eat” is where they get you!”

“At least they have coffee.”

“What do you mean?”

“A LOT of places to eat get you drooling by advertising delicious-looking and delicious-sounding food.  But when you order that food, they say, “I’m sorry: we’re out of that right now.  Can I get you something else?  How about a basket of fries?”

“At least they’re open!  I went to the dollar store last week and got out of the car and a worker said, “Sorry, we’re closed.  Check back tomorrow.”

“You know, there’s TWO THINGS that would go a LONG WAY toward helping someone build a successful retail operation these days.”

“What?”

“One, keep regular hours.  Stay open all week the hours you are advertised to be open.”

“You can’t sell something if you’re not open.”

“And…?”

“And two: make sure you have merchandise someone wants and make sure it’s IN STOCK!  Who wants to go to the store to buy drain cleaner to open a clogged drain and they don’t have any!  BUT, they offer to sell you some ON-LINE if you wait a day or two.  BUT, the drain’s clogged NOW!”

“Sounds reasonable to me.”

After a few more minutes, the conversation then moved on to other topics.

Some of those who joined in laughed at some of the remarks made, but NONE of those who laughed got the ‘back-up‘ they were looking for and so, the laughs quickly died out.

But, MOST of the points elicited nods and agreement, not laughter.

Especially those having to do with stores not opening and there being little merchandise for sale when they are open.

HAS the reader noticed the changes in his shopping habits?

ARE these changes due to the reader or to the businesses the reader frequents?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Will the LORD Take Care of His People During the Last Days?

CARE FOR?

“My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.  Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.  As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.”
–Psalm 55:4-5,15-16,22-23

Those who are true followers of Jesus Christ KNOW that the LORD will take care of them during the last days.

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
–1PETER 5:6-7

While the evil and the foolish have no such knowledge and thus suffer the torment and affliction–the doubt and constant, nagging worry–which is a companion of the wicked at all times.

God’s Word declares that the wicked shall know NO peace.

“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.”
–Isaiah 57:20-21

To all who KNOW the wicked, they KNOW that such folks may have accumulated wealth and material things.  BUT, they also KNOW that those folks have MORE THAN THEIR FAIR SHARE OF PROBLEMS–whether it be problems with their family; problems with their ‘friends;’ problems with health; or, problems with holding onto the things they have accumulated.

In most cases, the life of the wicked is NO bowl of cherries.

ON the other hand, believers may ponder their uncertain circumstance, BUT they KNOW the LORD takes care of His people.

Their reasoning goes something like this: “For YEARS, the LORD took care of me, in dozens of ways, large and small, during times which were not very dire.  It only makes sense that he would continue this care during times of torment and affliction.”

IN FACT, believers are assured MANY TIMES in God’s Word that this care of the LORD is true.

“The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”
–Psalm 121:5-8

“For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.”
–Proverbs 2:6-8

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
–Psalm 84:11

“Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.”
–Psalm 97:10

So, YES: God WILL take care of His people during the last days.

It is declared to be so in God’s Word.

And God’s Word is TRUE.

[NOTE: In many cases, when the Word of God refers to ‘saving’ the saints, it is referring to an eternal salvation, not necessarily a more-temporary, physical one–though the LORD certainly does provide for the believer’s physical needs during this life. In any case, it is all good.]
