Ten Bible Verses Which Have Proven Helpful in Times of Trouble

TROUBLE

With lost and fallen man, it is most usually true that when ‘the going gets tough, man usually forgets all about the Bible’–if he ever thought of in the first place.

BUT, among believers, hope springs eternal.

And so, the following tidbits from God’s Word are offered in the hope that the reader will bring them to mind when he is in the midst of TROUBLE.

ANY type of trouble, but especially the type that will be around during the last days of the end times.

These comforting words have brought relief from anxiety and fear to many for CENTURIES.  IF the reader ever is in a circumstance where he is beset with anxiety and/or fear, it is hoped they will provide relief to him as well.

“Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city. For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.”
–Ecclesiastes 7:19-20

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
–Psalm 23:1-6

“In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him. [‘…to the end that man should find nothing after him.’ = “…that man may be uncertain what next may befall him.”–Hodgson, Brit. Fam. Bible]
–Ecclesiastes 7:14

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
–Romans 8:31-32

“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”
–Psalm 9:9-10

“Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
–Psalm 136:25-26

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
–1PETER 5:6-7

“The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”
–Psalm 121:5-8

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
–Joshua 1:9

“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
–Acts 2:21

These ten verses are only a mere handful among dozens of similar verses.

Perhaps the reader will spend some time searching some of the others out?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

Winning Souls For the LORD During the End Times is Like Hand-To-Hand Combat

HAND-TO-HAND

While researching this piece, a GREAT NUMBER of words described what winning souls during the end times for the LORD was like.

A few of those choices (of which there were nearly 1050) are: arduous, difficult, laborious, tough, strenuous, onerous, demanding, burdensome, troubling, painstaking–and these were just the first ten offered!

Winning souls for the LORD at ANY TIME is a hard proposition.  During the last days, it becomes even harder.

Regardless of the many stories told about the “good old days,” winning souls for the kingdom of heaven was NEVER an easy job, where hundreds lined up to change direction [repent] and place their faith for the future on Jesus Christ.

Really it wasn’t.

God’s Word informs that FEW find the path to life; i.e.,  FEW find eternal salvation.

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
–Matthew 7:13-14

This simple fact ought to give pause to the thousands who believe that they are blessed eternally because they show up at a building we call a “church.”

But it doesn’t.

Either they don’t believe or they don’t care: either way, they are deceived and enjoying the life such deception provides.

SO winning souls was NEVER the easy task in years gone by.

MORE: Winning Souls in the End Times

The world–regardless of what it may claim–is NOT in the least interested in converting to followers of Jesus.

Oh, there are PLENTY of ‘false starts,’ where the person preached to seems to walk a promising path–at first.

BUT, so many fall back into the arms of a waiting world, and Jesus becomes little more than an afterthought–if that.

The folks of the world believes if they convert, they will lose out on “FUN!

It is little wonder that Jesus Himself stated that “few” there be that are saved.

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
–Matthew 7:13-14

AND IF ANYONE SHOULD KNOW about how FEW there are, it would be Jesus.

During the end times, fighting Satan, the flesh and the world for a soul or two is a HARD, DIFFICULT task at best.

Perhaps that is why there is such celebration in heaven when one DOES convert?

“Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.”
–Luke 15:10

So, even IF the going is grueling, exhausting and backbreaking MOST OF THE TIME, it DOES have its rewards.

“…he that winneth souls is wise.”
–Proverbs 11:30

OF COURSE, to the believer, the ULTIMATE benefit is hearing Jesus declare:

“…Well done, thou good and faithful servant”
–Matthew 25:21

And so, the hand-to-hand combat continues…

HAS the reader ever thought about winning souls ANYTIME?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Man Entertains Thoughts Which Are NOT From God

THOUGHTS

During the course of a normal, usual day, a man may entertain THOUSANDS of thoughts.

Some are organized into distinct sections.

Some are not.

Some are pondered because they might lead to material gain or some other advantage.

Others are considered “stray thoughts” which ‘pop up’ into our heads and we begin thinking on them BEFORE we really become aware of what we are doing.

IF one carries on a fairly constant, internal conversation with God, then one can easily ascertain that SOME of these thoughts come from the LORD Himself for our edification.

By the same token, IF one carries on a fairly constant, internal conversation with God, then one can ALSO easily ascertain that SOME of those thought do NOT come from the LORD.

Who puts those thoughts there?

Perhaps Satan himself.

Perhaps some who labor in league with Satan for NO good end.

Why does God allow His creation to struggle with such stray thoughts?

Perhaps God wants to see how man will react to such thoughts?

Man might turn away from such tempting fruit OR man might latch onto such fruit as a way to ‘outwit’ the God who created him.

Because God inhabits EVERY point in time–past, present and future–He KNOWS how each man will react to ‘stray thoughts.’

BUT maybe He wants to see what He already knows to be true, confirmed?

During the course of a normal, usual day, a man may entertain THOUSANDS of thoughts.

IF one carries on a fairly constant, internal conversation with God, then one can ALSO easily ascertain that SOME of those thought do NOT come from the LORD.

The reader may let this piece serve as a gentle reminder:

Beware of stray thoughts which suddenly appear!

HAS the reader ever had a stray thought from who-knows-where?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

God is Greatest

GOD

” O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.”
–Psalm 95:1-6

In spite of all of the tortured tales man tells; despite all of the wonderful explanations SCIENCE! gives to those who demand MORE information on a topic; even though man has been gradually led away from his humble beginnings by his desire to be great and glorious: through it all, God looks down on man and generally, feels a pity for His creation.

“Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?”
–Matthew 18:33

God can show this compassion because God is so much HIGHER than man.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
–Isaiah 55:8-9

And it is by this great MERCY; by this great GRACE; by this great PITY that man survives all of his many flaws–including the ones in which man believes himself to be as great and glorious as God Himself.

Even though that man may have, at one time, DEFIED instead of FEARED, the LORD.

“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.”
–Psalm 103:13

To the believer: each day, in dozens of ways, God demonstrates His greatness.

To the NONbeliever?

God is incredibly patient.

God is not merely GREAT.

God is GREATEST.

DOES the reader believe that God is the greatest?

WHY or WHY NOT?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
