Not long ago, someone asked a question which got this writer thinking about the answer for WEEKS afterwards.
The question?
“What is the believer supposed to be doing during the end times?”
It was asked in a sort of offhand way: there was NO intent discernible which pointed to anything different. The question was posed by an unbeliever, but it seemed as though he REALLY wanted an answer.
Since this was basically a NEW one on me, NO answer was handy.
BUT, we did put some thought into a possible answer for DAYS upon DAYS.
“What is the believer supposed to be doing during the end times?”
1- The believer is supposed to be warning others of the dangers of dying in their sins.
This one was only picked up earlier this week after reading Ezekiel 33.
“But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.”
–Ezekiel 33:6
IF the believer does NOT warn those of the coming danger–EVEN IF he thinks they will NOT listen; EVEN IF he thinks they will totally ignore him; EVEN IF they mock and scorn him for his concern–then the believer bears some responsibility IF those heathens die in their sins, according to Ezekiel 33:6.
SO, the believer will stay ULTRA-BUSY just warning those who TOTALLY ignore his warnings.
2- As always, the believer is trying to convert pagans into becoming members of the kingdom of heaven.
God’s Word is FULLY confirms the importance of soulwinning.
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”
–Proverbs 11:30
“Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”
–James 5:20
“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.”
–Daniel 12:3
NOW, trying to convince those who are wrapped up in the pleasures of this present world that they should lay aside their appetites and take the long view of life (don’t die from fleetingly-pleasurable sin; live forever as a child of God) is NO easy task.
NEITHER is convincing those who believe they are somehow protected by their (imaginary) government that they are in DANGER.
BUT, the believer will be kept BUSY during the end times performing JUST those two tasks.
3- The believer MUST stand up and TESTIFY for Jesus Christ–even if the world HATES Jesus and His followers.
As Jesus Himself once said:
“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.”
–Matthew 10:32
“Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.”
–Luke 12:8-9
The believer KNOWS that there is NOTHING to be gained by ignoring Jesus: the agents of Satan won’t give him much credit for doing so. So, the believer has to be LOUD and CLEAR in his love of Jesus.
IN ADDITION, he will be kept busy fighting against the wiles of the devil and his followers.
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
–Ephesians 6:11
ADDITIONALLY, the believer will be looking out for family and friends who are NOT in the kingdom of heaven.
IF there is any time left over, the believer may THEN concentrate on his own health and welfare.
SO, the believer has MUCH to do before Jesus returns.
HAS the reader ever thought about what it is he must do during the last days before Jesus returns?
It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
