There is a famous saying during wartime which highlights that men will grasp at ANYTHING which looks like a lifeline–even that in which they do not normally believe.
“There are NO atheists in foxholes.”
“There are no atheists in foxholes” is an aphorism used to suggest that times of extreme stress or fear can prompt belief in a higher power. In the context of actual warfare, such a sudden change in belief has been called a foxhole conversion.
The statement is an aphorism used to argue that people will believe in, or hope for, a higher power in times of fear or stress, such as during war (“in foxholes“).
With slightly different wording, the statement appears much earlier in press reports dating from the end of the First World War, while a similar concept has been sought in Plato‘s Laws, and in Karl Marx‘s often-misrepresented partial quote that “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people“.
ALL of this points to a conundrum which is shared by UNbelievers during the last days.
“During the last days, if one does not depend upon the LORD, then who does one depend upon?”
Believers KNOW that depending upon one’s self–no matter how clever or prepared one may be–is a fool’s errand.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
–Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. “
–Psalm 37:3
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
–Proverbs 16:25
So, IF one cannot depend upon himself and the preparations he might have made, then WHO can the reader depend upon?
IF one cannot depend upon the government and its MANY programs–and experience has shown that those who depend upon the government for their salvation are almost always disappointed–then WHO can the reader depend upon?
IF one cannot depend upon the powers of familiar spirits and devils–and God’s Word has several accounts of such entities crying out in fear when confronted by members of the kingdom of heaven–then WHO can the reader depend upon?
“And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.”
–Mark 5:7-8
“For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.”
–Acts 8:7
The short answer is “NO ONE BUT THE ARCHITECT OF THE END TIMES: GOD HIMSELF.”
This is one superb reason why readers should strike up a conversation and understanding with God NOW–before His judgment strikes the earth and its inhabitants.
Do NOT wait.
There is NOTHING to wait for.
Open a prayer with God BEFORE one is shown how powerless ALL OTHER ALTERNATIVES are.
DOES the reader depend upon God to help him through times of fear and anxiety?
OR, does the reader believe that “God is for kids“?
It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
—1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
